beranek’s debut album, “sound of danger”, was released on mind expanding records in november 1981. nowhere near as accessible as the previous single, the album fared poorly commercially. withdrawing from the single’s fun, kitsch pop, the album is cool and static, driven by thin rhythm boxes, cold synths, and glacial guitars. taking heavy cues from david bowie, all of the songs are sung in a nasally english accent, a rare occurrence in norway at the time. the lyrics are melancholic, but tinged with paranoia. there are also upbeat tracks that evoke a prog or glam sensibility a la king crimson, alan parsons, or roxy music. all songs have been remastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. housed in the original jacket featuring red, black, and white lines that evoke a visualized richter scale designed by monica moltzau. each copy includes a 2-sided 8x11” insert with lyrics and an autographed press photo of beranek.

philipp poisels traum von amerika begann schon in seinen kindheitstagen als er sich regelmäßig mit den „drei fragezeichen“ auf abenteuer zum rocky beach begab, für ihn eine coca-cola die beste erfrischung war, und er mit bruce springsteen auf mtv die straßen philadelphias entlanggelaufen ist. der traum von diesem amerika, der sehnsucht nach abenteuer, freiheit und weite bleibt für poisel lebendig und findet sich auf der neuen platte wieder, für die er sich mit band und produzent frank pils auf eine sehr persönliche reise und spurensuche in die usa begab. „mein amerika“ entstand auf einer analog-bandmaschine in den legendären blackbird studios in nashville/tennessee. das album lässt eine deutliche entwicklung hörbar werden, poisel hat seinen songwriter-stil in einen bandsound verpackt, der reichlich hallraum für seine stimme bietet. der leise gesang der frühen tage macht einem sänger platz, der die großen bühnen als arena sucht.

madame e. is a musical setting of georges bataille’s “madame edwarda”, a short novel that interlaces themes of eroticism, religiosity and death, and was written under the pseudonym pierre angelique in 1941, during the occupation of paris. composer mirco magnani wrote eleven electronic pieces and presented them to actor/singer ernesto tomasini. they turned them into songs by adding vocal melodies and together they produced a libretto based on bataille’s french text. the result of their dynamic interpretation is a hypnotically spellbinding performance where the audience is transported through worlds – ancient and new – and where tomasini’s haunting falsetto conveys the tormented emotions in bataille’s work and becomes the instrument that articulates the writer’s famously obscure themes.

for the first release coming in 2017 macadam mambo strikes very hard with a very special ep of radical dance music by the german band the blech revisited by hambourg’s based artist wosto. the blech released 6 lp between 1985 and 1996. their albums have become a treasure-trove of extravagant, groovy dance hall artistry. the forcefulness with which the blech flung their conviction from the stage into the audience was at once hypnotic, irritating and erotic. here wosto has selected two tracks from the zip zip lp originally released in 1987 (nichts wie vorher and zip zip) and one from the ich wollte meine schuhe zerschneiden lp (die einame trane) released in 1989, and transform them into strong powerfull dancefloor cuts. be sure of the efficient of the product, no need to talk more, let the music speak by itself. special mention for the magnificient artwork of lyons based artist hugo charpentier from the mauvaise foi collective

underground quality boss jus ed is beginning 2017 in fine fettle, with transition his first album since 2014 heading up a spate of vinyl releases. the triple-vinyl set is full of evocative, immaculately produced deep house treats, from the alton miller style intricacy of the loop 222 bodin strasse and shuffling, yearning the day prince died, to the rich bass and dancing drum machine hits of medellin my new grooveland (inspired, apparently, by a recent trip to colombia), and the low-slung, motor city grooves of sci-fi connection. best of all, though, is the rushing positivity of spring is near, where intertwining synth lines bubble away over a fizzing, techno-influenced rhythm track.
