it has been over a year since the last schmorgasbord release dropped, which saw al tourettes (better known now as second storey) rubbing up against paradroid in a mix up of electro, techno and electronica styles. now the label returns with bass clef and frak, who were asked to each commit a half-finished sketch of a track to tape, exchange tapes and finish off each others tracks. bass clef has been a strong solo force on the electronic music scene since he first emerged in the wider bass music field in 2006, and has since released on idle hands, punch drunk, pan and public information as well as running his own magic + dreams imprint. swedish trio frak have been releasing since their debut album in 1987 when they were thirteen years old. the swedish trio have been active for most of that time, running borft records and releasing a huge amount of music as well as performing live. in recent years they have enjoyed more recognition with releases on kontra musik, digitalis and sex tags mania. schmorgasbord launched in 2011 with a release that saw appleblim and october collaborating for the first time. it was followed up by a release from s-max and spatial.

touchin bass takes a different turn this time by introducing you to newcomers mkfn, a live production project formed in 2012 by babar raza (us), ovais hassan (uk) and fahad ahmad (canada). over the course of the year they have designed a system that allows them to create music across borders that has been defined as experimental, dark and gritty. the collective integrates each members extensive musical background gained from working across multiple genres. this unique combination invites distinctive sounds into the studio forming the foundation for mkfns characteristic sound.

alessio pagliaroli catapulted to the dj-community after his moodmusic debut distactions featuring vocals from jinadu and remixes from frankey & sandrino(innervisions) and moodmusic head sasse. plays by mano le tough, dixon, jimpster and many more, distractions was one of the highlights of 2013. now alessio is back with his 2nd moodmusic ep the bass the day featuring the vocals from chicago based jerome stokes. chicago inspired grooves wrapped around the inspiring vocals and a jacking bass makes the original a true peak hour missile. remixes comes courtesy of alex attias and acid meister freestyle man.

lphs unpredictable sister label, lph white, is back with another juicy 12inch, one that marks the imprints first foray into japanese clubland. atsushi yano, a kobe based producer, serves up three, as the title indicates, chewy tunes, all doused with african rhythms and set ablaze with fidgety keys, chopped­up vocals, and groovy bass lines. filling the release out is jacques renaults no­nonsense, squared­up, lead­footed remix of stomping on the verge.

a side with original title ep track meets dark groove, soft synths and catchy athmosphere together. also uk based artists, matt fear & kreature - the guys who have placed themselves on the worldwide house scene with resonance records, mexa records, nurvous records releases - are uniting the powers and deliver their version of the track, this is closing the a side. b side opens with low bass influenced remix of track by german based artist, gomma records coworker telonius. the key of this remix can be described as raw, linear and experimental. kevin over (noir music, defected) completes the b side and release in general. the dubby experience of melancholic notes with punchy sub bassline is a perfect banger for dj sets.

dr.motte s euphorhythm - acid4real(hardfloorremix) was recorded in 2010 / 2011 and planned to be released (with the originalversion and other remixes) on motte s label praxxiz but it was never published. dynamik bass system - robotmachine(hardfloorremix) was only released digital so far in 2011. 3 years later it s about time to manufacture a ltd. 200, continuously numbered and handstamped vinyl edition..

tapping into the strong current of quality electronic music coming out of sweden, the latest bass culture shines a light on two talents working out of the stockholm underground who have created their own imprint on the european house and techno scene. the pajala sunrise e.p marks the first release that mr tophat and art alfie have issued away from their shared base camps of junk yard connections and karlovak, two labels that showcase the pair’s commitment to pushing 4/4 dance music forwards wherever they can. energy lies at the heart of the sound that oscar and rudolf (to give them their real names) conjure up, both in the urgent pulse of their full-bodied drum arrangements and the spiritual lilt of their melodic content.

untitled opens up, building behind a gently reverberated 4/4 kick and interchanging hat sequences. hypnotic, off-kilter samples and subtle flecks of acid generate a brooding and purposeful tone as a sense pressure builds throughout.

in recent times soul notes tilted a little towards more groove driven, distortion ladenmachine funk. snx001 is the missing release out of the snx series thus far. label head honcho kastil joins up with cologne based adryiano, who is quickly becoming one of the labels favorite household names. the signature snx sounds is developing into a dark psych-oriented club sound which this ep represents as never before. the opening track *snakes and holes* is pure percussive machinery with the heaviest overdriven kickdrums you will ever hear. on the a2, adryiano sets the mood with a low swinging bass and some eardrum deafening kicks which progresses into the b1 which is perced out to the max with some 303 bassline drama and distortion to top that off. for the b2 track, head honcho kastil shows off some lo-fi drum action on controversy.

recorded whilst battling insomnia during a cold and bleak berlin winter, jack dixons new ep finds him channeling the light and the dark of his home city. inspired by the bygone euphoria of early analogue techno and the harsh industrial landscape outside his window, the three tracks of those questions swirl vinyl crackle, ghostly rave vocals and human heartbeats around pounding jackhammer bass, intense drops and intricate house rhythms. the result is a perfect encapsulation of the curses and blessings of a sleepless hibernation. it is an atmosphere also present in the hazy drones and pulsating sub-bass of skudges exhilarating, analogue remix of heirloom, the revered swedish duo tuning down the filters and reinterpreting the track as a ghostly and paranoid low-end basement banger.

sneaky music is the new imprint from andy bird, the man behind the infamous love fever parties, and producer ranacat. to kick off the new label they have chosen silk 86 to roll out the honours with an ep that showcases silk 86s evolution from the well received clear waters debut on manuccis mistress. the pleasure venture represents a compelling package of crisp production meets gritty warmth with a splash of that 80s sleaze. the pleasure venture ep leads with *felicity*, a production oozing with warmth from the offset. hypnotic vocal cuts pepper throbbing pads and bass stabs giving way to a meandering melody that weaves in and out. on the flip, *the exchange* fuses classic percussion of the windy city and a zig-zagging pad sample hinting at low slung 7am sleaze. *nightdrive* is when the freaks come out, as silk 86 hits eerie vocal snips to a twilight swansong that will disorientate and delight.

ol aka oleg buyanov is well known in his native russia already. he has a background extending from releases on faces records and scuzzy lo-fi hip hop beats on labels like error broadcast, idle and fine grains dating back to 2007. more recently though he has been increasingly turned on by dance floor focussed sounds and as such, here come two missives on russias capital bass (which also hosts a popular bass and garage night in moscow and has done since 2006).

for those of you who dont already know, plaster is an electronic music project born in rome in 2008 and comprised of gianclaudio hashem moniri and giuseppe carlini, best known for their works on german label stroboscopic artefacts, berlin-based unoiki and ukraine-based label kvitnu...
now the italian duo find themselves in london, joining forces with touchin bass to weave together a damn fine four track ep which aims to mix a combination of styles from downtempo, dark, brooding beats to more compelling rhythms which have the capacity to make you dance... plasters sound is impressively textured with rich eclectic tones. it is simple but effective, showing different emotions, tempos and styles.
look no further... this ep will draw you in, chew you up and spit you out, but you will be all the better for it.
