the intergalactic research institute for sound presents de, a compilation of various artists representing georgian electronic and ambient music. / de is a compilation of music from artists of different backgrounds getting together in order to showcase the dynamic influences within the georgian scene. tbilisi is getting worldwide recognition at the moment for its booming club scene, but what this project aims to illustrate is what is happening outside of the club context. natalie beridze who has been performing worldwide since 2004 is known as the first female electronic music artist in georgia, rezo glonti has built his studio inside the hull of his boat, and zesknel is a resident of the renowned bassiani club, while myi and severiane were discovered thanks to myspace, soundcloud, and word-of-mouth. all these talents manage in their own ways to present / de, with murky and melancholic cuts. melancholia is at the core of beauty in georgia. that is not the case in germany and many other cultures, where melancholia is often charged and bound to a negative feeling, which some might perceive as weakness. consequently, one could be tempted to say that even if it�s electronic music, de has a traditional georgian quality. but that would be putting art in boxes or cases because what is georgian art nowadays, when so many artists from this origin are scattered around? as giorgi maisuradze states in his mission statement for de, the world is their home.

after moving from london to berlin cromby is back on tenderpark with his second ep for the vinyl label. the young man recreates our love for deep house with two sample-based tracks which showcase his ever advancing skills with the old school akai sampler mpc 2000 xl as well as his cool understanding of mixing haunting melodies with gripping groove patterns. the remix on the flip side comes from hip-hop super producer gone house lover hodini who has collaborated with the talented bass player chez kerim for this funky workout. the cover image shot by achim valbracht is the start of a new artwork series developed by tenderpark art director till sperrle which revolves around critique of investor-driven architechture that has been dominating berlin for several decades now. the speciously precious and glittering image displays a normalised and globally standardised kind of beauty but at the same time reveals a strong sense of loneliness. as always both the mastering and as well as the lacquer cut of this record have been carefully executed by vinyl sound mastermind helmut erler at dubplates & mastering.

the album�s title makes a direct and heartfelt reference to a real-life l.a. musician, long presumed dead, who resurfaced online in 2007 after 35 reclusive years to pen his autobiography and tragic life story in a series of blogs and youtube tirades. �his book and life resonated with me to such a degree,� pink states, �that i felt a need to dedicate my latest record to him.�

the first release on leipzig s ph17 is a compilation of pieces by companioned artists and promising talents which try to pass the limits of regular club music by combining its roots with experimental and weird structures. leibniz sampled his playstation sounds, ariadne created a symbiosis between opera singing and heavy electro acoustics, hobor, who is usually non-conform in his productions, experiments with loopy techno sounds which are creating their own dynamics in-between. annanan and stanley deliver breaks, lo-fi electro and wicked melodies.

figure jams is back with a another fresh and exciting pairing of artists. this time the record is a collection of pure analogue goodness, sparkling ripe with synthesizer magic. the a-side comes courtesy of duo-of-the-moment twr72, who happen to distill perfection through simplicity in their stripped-back productions. while�polished is a pulsating bit of beatless yet captivating clean-cut loops, their other contribution shows their talent at crafting something lean, dry and punchy, which is still undeniably driving and hypnotic. picking up on the synth-heavy theme of this release is st. petersburgs finest aleksey niktin aka nocow. inspired by the endless baltic winters, the producer packs his tracks with emtions that feel cold but not icy, engulfing the listener in winching waves of melancholic electronica.

black ivory was the pride of harlem and new yorks answer to the philly-fine delfonics but with infinitely more teen sex appeal. this silky-smooth 70s harmony trio featured the fabulous falsetto lead of leroy burgess (nephew of philly soul legend, thom bell) and charted four top-40 r&b singles and two top-30 lps under the guiding hand of their manager and today records driving force, patrick adams. songs like, you and i, time is love and dont turn around (which they performed live on soul train) are acknowledged sweet soul classics. and as the decade progressed and tastes changed, they successfully conquered the disco dancefloors with fave-raves like, mainline and walking downtown (saturday night) for buddah records which were liberally sampled by the hip-hop generation a true testament to the staying power of their incessantly soulful sound.

tomoki tamuras holic trax label has long been renowned as a canny exporter of clued in house and techno. their latest continues in this regard, as tamura again calls on a series of renowned label friends to bring the heat. with names such as mr.g, satoshi tommie and tuccillo all appearing it here alongside tamura himself, it s no surprise that this 3 x vinyl record, celebrating 5 years of the label, is filled with drama and high points throughout. this is immediately obvious from mr.gs soba shioyaki. titled in homage to the label s japanese heritage, it s a dark and dexterous workout that marks another high point in a career filled with big records. deep but tough, it s a perfect of why the tech house master is so revered in underground circles. gs komorebi- puts a tough emphasis on the drums, as well as a weaving, subtle baseline that adds a further dynamic to his work here. ht24 comes from satoshi tommiie & tuccillo, two producers whose sounds are perfectly suited to holic s output. their four-track contribution starts with do it, a spiky catchy number that s exciting from the off. -what row- sees the boys inject some added funk into the equation, before to ray ups the intensity with a raw, pulverising aesthetic that takes no prisoners. wrapping up their side of the bargain is the digital only you know, a real bumper of a track with chicago-inspired synth stabs that help bring it to higher planes. it s the left to tamura himself to close the offering via ht25. a1, the appropriately named -5ive years is a techno workout of the type that s notable for its off-kilter motifs and a stubborn, industrial feel. unforgiving and full of atmosphere, it s the sign of a producer who clearly knows his way around he mixing deck. polyphonic six displays the producer s more introspective sound thanks to a melancholic perspective that s hard not to embrace. all things told, this is a wonderfully diverse package from tamura & co. here s to the next 5!

emotional rescue turns its attention to spanish artist luis delgado, who made a name for himself fusing traditional folk music from across the globe with experimental electronic practice. his first album vathek stands as one of his masterworks, originally released in 1986 and featuring a range of different electro-acoustic approaches that draw you in with their strange, dynamic textures. there s a whiff of jon hassell s treated trumpet about -la puerta de ebano- while -el sacrificio de catoul- deals in a dense weave of chimes and percussion. diverse, engrossing listening from the outer reaches.

the second release on resonance comes from emergent russian producer ivan erofeev, who was previously moonlighting as aleph before reverting to his birth name. there s a tantalizing drama embedded in abdumanob, all taut tribal percussion and an insistent kick. bed of honour is a deeper cut fleshed out with atmospheric dubby ripples, and tribe taps into a more classic kind of contemporary techno headspace. resin flips the script with some crusty piano samples and a lopsided beat, caucasus strips things down to a mean tempered rhythmic core and aerograd lets the cyclical bleeps do the talking

delivery is the work of greg shin, who has previously appeared on la club resource and smashing tape records. now he appears on torn hawk s valcron video with a wonderfully diverse set of leftfield machine workouts, kicking off with the tempestuous drum twitches of brain drained. technology transplant is a polar opposite, focusing on calm drifts of ambient synth with a mournful tinge. the b2 is worth digging for, as four two nine seems to balance the two other tracks and make for the most club-ready piece on the 12inch.

scorned by critics at the time of its release, miles davis 1972 album >on the corner< is now seen as a forerunner of post punk, hip hop, drum and bass and electronic music, thanks to its revolutionary recording techniques. miles wanted to reconnect with a younger audience, who had forsaken him for rock and funk, and the experimental >on the corner< was his answer. leaning more heavily on a drum and bass groundwork, the overdubs consisted of free improvisations held in the studio. >on the corner< isnt one of miles easiest records to listen to, but it can yield the most fruits. now released with completely re-mastered audio on 180 grams audiophile vinyl in gatefold sleeve.

>dusty ... definitely< from 1968 is considered one of her best albums. more a pop production than its predecessors, on it she explored more and different genres than she had done before, the cover >take a little piece of my heart< and motown-styled >aint no sun since you ve been gone< were produced by a young john paul jones (who had just gained fame with led zeppelin), and the album also features >who<, written by charles aznavour, and the indelible >think its gonna rain today<, written by randy newman.

dalmata daniel s next up is a collaboration with the bristol-born �weirdo disco guy- antoni maiovvi and also a contribution of heinrich dressel who is an unavoidable column of rome s electronic music scene. maiovvi s pleasure model project is all about youth � replaced by blade runner-esque replicas. his first release under this moniker was �kendo dynamics- on 100% silk in 2016. it aimed for presenting a persuasive world of fiber optic paranoia and technoid effacement. dd006 is the next level of the concept and the first time on vinyl. the tracks are driven by the characteristic haggard drum machine s sound on side a with a melancholic or dark synth themes what becomes a dreamy melody in the �prism riot- on side b. the remix by heinrich dressel is a turn back directly into the darkness, but it is faster and more like a film soundtrack with his own characteristics, of course. the whole ep has a strong vintage mood and sound. it can be said that update 1.1 is definitely dystopian, coming from the future of our past.

producer, dj and visual artist, dreams, has become a standout voice in the los angeles electronic landscape. the following he�s amassed locally is due, in part, to his own imprint, private selection, who�s focus so far has been split between releasing music and throwing events. an ethos that runs through both the his music and parties is indebted in part to house and techno, but also industrial, resulting in a mutated take on dance life forms that is becoming increasingly recognizable in his own records and dj sets. dreams� first 12�, �twisted karma�, came out in 2015 via private selection. most recently, he released a record which saw light through greek imprint nous disques, and now, apron records.

in the midst of the storm brings together two exceptional talents and two generations of reggae musicians. jah9s previous release 9 was critically heralded as one of the most re-freshing reggae albums of 2016. and now, fans will get the fully de-constructed, dubwise version of the album with nine newly recorded dub sessions from the legendary dub master, mad professor. he s renown for hundreds of productions with the who s who of jamaican veteran artist like i.e. lee perry, u-roy, the congos, horace andy, and did also great dub re-mixes for massive attack, sade, depeche mode, grace jones and many more. this release marks the first mad professor title with vp records as well as the first commercial recording of mad professor and jah9 together. the press and media coverage will include interviews with mad professor and jah9. the great original cover illustration is by artist richard nattoo!

what happens when a house-music icon takes a small, talented bunch of musicians and mixes it with a savory blend of jazz, funk, dance, and soul music? you get a hearty serving of e.o.l. soulfrito, who make their single debut with upright love on vega records. e.o.l. soulfrito, led by musical director and conductor louie vega, is the condensed version of vega�s elements of life live-band project, which over its tenure has released three albums, won a grammy award in 2006 for best remixed recording, non-classical (curtis mayfield, superfly (louie vega eol mix), and performed for a globally-televised audience during the 2007 superbowl pre-game show. e.o.l. soulfrito�s name is a play on the popular latin-caribbean seasoning sofrito, which serves as a nod to vega�s own puerto rican heritage. earlier this year, the band played their first show at gramps in wynwood, miami during miami music week. upright love embodies the organic energy of e.o.l. soulfrito�s live performances. with a runtime of more than ten and a half minutes, it�s a steady groover that slowly blossoms into a blissful symphony of sprightly chords, jazzy bass, crisp percussion, pattering tambourine courtesy of kat ayala, and cindy mizelle�s vocal ad-lib serenades. easygoing yet refined, the single plays out like a summer afternoon jam session between vega and his friends: axel tosca on fender rhodes & synth upright bass, josh milan on synth jazz guitar & synth percussion. start swaying those hips and let the rhythm carry you into the sunset. i wanted to create a more condensed band, since the elements of life band has ten members, it�s always been a little difficult to do smaller venues. i also wanted to create music inspired by groups and artists like war, cymande, johnny hammond, and herbie hancock�s headhunters, but with the vega e.o.l. twist and style. i then created e.o.l. soulfrito with my studio musicians and rhythm section of elements of life and nuyorican soul. i want to take this band and perform in festivals and venues like the blue note, jazz café, ronnie scots, and bb kings. e.o.l. soulfrito will bring you future grooves with a tinge of the musical landscape from our rich past, and yes, there will be experimentation get ready for it.

dark entries is proud to present the deluxe 2xlp reissue of �come visit the big bigot� by severed heads, oone of the longest surviving bands to emerge from the australian post-punk independent music scene. they began in sydney in 1979, incorporating elements of �industrial� noise-generation, tape cutting & looping and electronic sound synthesis. as the project developed song-structures and vocals were employed in a more-or-less recognizable mutant electro pop style. after many line-up changes featuring garry bradbury and psychedelic guitarist simon knuckey, severed heads was the vehicle for composer tom ellard. �come visit the big bigot� was severed heads� first record to be released commercially simultaneously in australia, north america and europe in 1986. it was a prime period for this industrial dance music and bigot was a respected album that did well from the tour they did with skinny puppy that same year. quite a few people still define the band by this period. �come visit the big bigot� was made on a fostex 16 track recorder in tom�s bedroom, employing the newly acquired akai s612 sampler and roland sh-101 to create most of the drum sounds. the album signaled a new direction, flirting with the dance floor and the pop song. presenting the heads at their most cohesive, while retaining their distinctive musical stamp. tom�s vocals are harmonized, slowed down, sped up, run through fuzz boxes, backwards, drum machine rolls, sampled guitars, horn sections, and voices but with a subversive rather than malevolent intention. tape loops are more subtle and define their own space and texture. like the original australian version of the album, we�ve included a bonus disc featuring three extended remixes by sydney dj robert racic (who produced the edited 7� version of �petrol� we reissued in 2015), plus three b-sides from the �twenty deadly diseases�12� and two additional tracks from the same recording sessions.
