nice price deal !!! third release on komplement recordings for label s owner ludwig buez. after a short break we re happy to hear him again with quality tracks both very different. day after is a more detroit techno oriented sounds with huge chords,smoky synths topped by huge toms & drums rythms for a dark and effective result.this is techno the way it should be! on the b side with mesa verde ludwig give us his vision of an atmospheric and melodic moment by adding seductive synth melody lines on top of uncluttered & tight minimal drums.

after spending the majority of 2009 in hollywood, chanes briefly returned home to finish up songs for what would become his 2010 release, an experimentation in instrumentation. the 15-track tape, presented by house shoes, exposed us all to the nomadic 21-year-old producer from canton, michigan. chanes would spend the next two years working between home and brooklyn, before relocating to arizona, where he would release his follow up project, renegade hands, (insect records 2013). presented again by shoes, hands solidified chanes as one of the most promising young producers in the country.
fast-forward to 2016, and at 27, this self-titled debut takes us circa 2007 - 2009 with the soul-chopping salad days of his mother s basement, through the alternative sampling williamsburg, brooklyn sessions of 2010. if the melancholy desert psychedelia of his isolated four years in perpetual southwestern summer gives us a glimpse into his growing electronic influences, then the angst of his winter homecomings are hiding under the aggressive parka weather beats that first caught the attention of detroit’s underground.
fittingly, chanes’ debut lp comes full circle, finishing the album back in the place it all started and releasing it with long-time supporter house shoes and street corner music.

the mix is influenced heavily by how i used to dj at the first party i ever promoted, named seismic, and another named monox which was a straight up techno night where i was a resident from the age of 17. and although it wasn’t my plan, it turned into a kind of tribute to the cities that really formulated me as a dj: detroit, chicago and glasgow.

end of dayz 009 is by the mysterious 30drop. his works are described by himself as detroit techno inspired music mixed with repetitive european techno. in this release -on the next day ep- we find on a side the terror history called -they saw it again- and the jeroen search remix that is a very danceable rhythmic techno with some cosmic stuff. the b side is for -raw- where we can listen to some space bells. here is the remix by an old friend of this label, p.e.a.r.l., bringing the track into a darker place.

wade from hello records called mr. pc “detroit’s hardest working dj” about a year back, and the fruits of his labor shine through on this curious beatdown and jazz funk re-edit record. in his own words, “the scene doesn’t need another hand-stamped and numbered vinyl-only disco edit label, so i went ahead and took the proverbial razor and tape to some jazz-fusion-disco-not-disco tracks that influenced me coming up as a bass player, now fully capable for dj dance floor elevation.”

hot off a couple of 12” from topher horn, rocksteady disco follows up with its first compilation featuring a heap of heavily sampled originals from more well-known editors. pontchartrain leads the release off with a summer-inspired aural prozac number, just in time for this june release. next up is notorious detroit editor lafleur, busting out this original milky-smooth detroit boogie house production. a slight little rearrangement from rocksteady disco label boss peter croce makes this one a bit smoother for the djs. lyon, france’s g2s kicks off the flip with a big-bottomed stomper reminiscent of some mcde ‘raw cuts’. pontchartrain book-ends this release with a track that puts the ‘rocksteady’ in rocksteady disco, with heavy analog-meets-electro drum programming and complete with pontchartrain on vocoder duties. hand numbered edition of 500 copies with dl code.
