...aaaand we’re back. it’s taken us a little longer than it should have to get this third release together, but oh my was it worth the wait. we’ve rounded up a few of our favourite oddballs to construct the first 2sox compilation release, aptly titled “oddsox vol. 1”.

subjecting itself to the essence of musical rummaging and the sole joy of musical discovery, dive ii swim was created with the vision to compile productions from already well-established producers together with gems from upcoming talents. eclectic and inclusive, it’s set out to be a compilation that should fit in most bags and shelves. emphasising its musical core, previous notions and expectations regarding the persona of a producer is of no importance, all of them will take on a new alias before they dive to swim.

dil withers has been making noise ever since his emergence in 2013 on a split tape with ohbliv (dil blivers). residing in seattle, wa, dil has been thriving in the towns rich vinyl scene, soaking up all that he can. jazz heavy loops with dusty drums is dils calling card. studies is an audio collage of samples, drums, vocals, thoughts and feelings. as dil studies the game, he takes notes, waiting for his time to shine. his time has come.

even though “darkness on the edge of ecstasy” is the first album by jonatan bäckelie under his given name, the singer from gothenburg is not a newcomer at all. under the moniker ernesto he already released four rather jazzy longplayers. as pinku vääty or jong tan bäckelie takes care exclusively of his electronic productions. and over the last few months and years he collected international acclaim as a gifted guest singer. for example on alex barck s debut (“reunion”) on sonar kollektiv.

the second single from chrissy & hawley’s debut album sees an impressive crew of hard-hitting house and techno producers contributing their own forward-thinking takes on this uptempo disco gem.

rothmans are back with their first release of 2016 and who better to bring in the new year than italian electropsycho s dj rocca & daniele baldelli. of course this record would have to pay homage to an italian great and who better than 1982 world cup hero marco tardelli. first up on the ep is a synth funk journey called kratos. rocca goes full on here and doesent hold back as he takes us on a journey of synth wizardry and classic italo beats. up next is an another original from rocca called fonk 400 another track that could have been plucked starigt out of the golden age of italo disco, again rocca is pulling no punches here. the ep is rounded off in spectacular fashion, just like marco tardellis famous world cup final celebration we have nothing short of genius with daniele badlellis electropsychomix of kratos. baldellie doing what he does best and taking us too another level yet again.

new years deal - the next chapter in the creme organization ecplise series comes from cosmic garden with three original tracks and one remix from orgue electronique. little is known about cosmic garden other than he is from southern italy and has had two eps out in 2016, one on hotmix and one on cosmic rhythm. he heads out the blocks here with reptilian treant , six minutes of lo-fi deep house that is roomy and atmospheric. lazy synths bring soul and a gentle chatter of claps and hits helps drive it along. rare centaur is also way below the surface but is darker and more celestial, with turbulent bass, frantic claps and angelic chords glowing like a white light at the end of a tunnel. dutch house and electro don orgue electronique then remixes reptilian treant into something that is slick and serene, with metallic lines dancing above rubbery drums as big piano chords boucle up top. it is joyous and colourful and truly majestic before final track apocalyptic moose takes us back down into a mournful house vibe that echoes chicago with its roughhewn analogue textures and lovestruck chords.

in ancient greek mythology, olympos was the living place of the twelve olympian gods and has inspired our limited series record label under the same name. olympos, will release a series of eps , with the figure of an olympian god, from various artists which will remain unannounced until the project is complete. kicking off the series is hephaestus, the god of fire and metal. dounai and lavein is an ancient greek phrase meaning give and take. a-side features lavein which is a broken beat, glitched up number, with a rather metallic timbre. resonances, filters, drums and arpeggiators arranged and programmed in style, resulting in a modern electronic piece with plenty of quirky, edgy vibes. on the flip side dounai is a melodious, esoteric and slow moving late night /after-hours affair, which expands slowly and steadily over a beautiful chord progression of lush strings and sparkling pads. a steady punctuated beat rolls smoothly throughout the track, completing this ep in a misty, hypnotizing and charming fashion.

the symbiosis piece by malcolm pointon was very interesting and is the kind of use synthesizers should be put to. synthesizers should explore new sounds rather than imitate conventional ones... practical electronics magazine c.1975 malcolm pointon was born in 1940, stoke on trent. he spent his life and career in tape, synthesizer and keys, academia, sound, music and machine. here, for the first time, public information and ian helliwell present the rarely heard works of malcolm pointon. with permission given by malcolms widow barbara, helliwell has compiled an lp of material taken from master tapes of home-recorded, never released electronic material.

opening cut acido setting the tone perfectly via murky broken rhythms and glitched out bass hits before the latter stages introduce a squelching 303 lead which tails out the rest of the record.what follows and takes a more robust approach rhythmically with a weighty kick drum, shuffling congas and choppy hats lying at the forefront while spiralling bass hits and vocal chops meander around them. opening the flip is nasty(or nylo if there is no way to fix name) which draws on an earth shattering sub bass lead, sparse percussive shots and a subtly bubbling synth stabs.lastly the package is closed with nylo(or koi if there is no way to fix name), an intricately programmed energy fuelled workout featuring reversed bass swells, jazz tinged rhodes melodies and crunchy distorted drums.

nice price deal !!! ”rundgang” (feedback in swedish) is a track made with feedback and i would call it a.o.t’s very own and personal interpretation of dubstep with ”lyrics” that reflects his wicked sense of humor. ”woot!” on the other hand is an evil excursion in filtered frequency noises and a distorted start/stop rhythm and this is nothing for the faint hearted so brace yourself you are in for a crazy trip verging on techno. the go koyashiki remix takes remixing to another level because go has stripped ”rundgang” to it’s bare essentials and produced a very minimal and slow pulsating track that ends with sublime pianoplaying.

mculo s latest asks you to do a double take. in the second release for his homegrown roots by the oder imprint, i caught a glance, a first listen to the ep s a-side introduces a dancefloor-centric house number punctuated by the loop of a somehow ceremonious melodic riff. listen again and it lures you in with hypnotic atmospheres and valleys of endless synth. the b-side gets deeper still, wasting no time in putting forth stronger basslines and traces of growling lows. a second listen offers a more pastoral diffusion as you pick up on the soft drums and pads, classic groove, and a climate that comes full circle, recalling the a-side s easy ambiance

here we see italian brother duo elia and niro perrone, release their debut long player in the shape of ‘pescaiola’ the name of the suburbs the pair grew up and paying homage to their musical roots growing up together. across the duration of the ‘pescaiola’ lp easy to remember serve up a amalgamation of raw and intriguing electronic, house and techno cuts. opener ‘hanckora’ lays down a lo-fi infused hip hop style to kick things off, while ‘checkma dem’ lies in similar territory with the addition of some vocal stylings as well. for the most part though easy to remember lay the focus on emotive house music, title track ‘pescaiola’ plays on multi-layered melodies and retro synths, ‘hijack percussion’ focuses on gritty rhythm and soft atmospherics and ‘try to escape’ brings to light ethereal synth leads and snaking bass grooves. the duo instil some funk influence into the lp as well via ‘feelings’ and some experimental touches as well with their giulio etiope collaboration ‘degolas’ amongst others. all in all easy to remember deliver a refreshing take on modern electronica across the project and further prove unclear is a force to be reckoned with in the underground.

2015 was probably the busiest of my career, during the course of the year i lived many hours of flights and delays at airports, stayed at hotels with wonderful views immersed in nature and others, on the contrary, very urban. i must admit that many of these scenarios were the kick start of the creative process of oscillators ep. this is an ep conceived strictly for the dancefloor, and its creation was a perfect combination between air and land, as all the tracks began on a plane and were developed on land. a very important part of the creative process when youre working on a track is the mood youre in, and there is always an extra excitement before, during and after each show, the space where you work. i take advantage of that moments and translate those feelings into music. - flug

fancy humans leigh morgan has been knocking around a while, running urban torque recordings for the best part of a decade throughout the naughties. having reached a satisfactory level of noodle shinnery on his baldy bonce, he has put down the scalp polish and finally started making music. project pickle is his second solo ep. project pickle includes three original tracks, nailing his colours to the mast, dilly of a pickle begins with a clear indication of pickle preference, pie on the sly the accompanying dish, and almost champion a nod to the ultimate disappointment in food related release punnery. we asked chocky to come on board for remix duties, once he d told us which was his favourite pickle, his answer we ll take to our graves. chocky has been winning plaudits for his deep dubby jazzy grooves through artful division, nature soul music, roots for bloom and audio parallax etc, and here he s on great form with, er, a deep dubby jazzy re-imaging, lovely stuff.

since fabrikate first emerged with a remix of the weeknd’s often in 2014, the duo has showcased a variety of influences on productions ranging from traditional deep house to sounds reminiscent of the l.a. bass house scene. despite rising success, fabrikate retain their anonymity, hidden behind minimalist masks when on stage or behind the camera. in contrast to the vibrant aesthetic that permeates their overall image, the duo remains stoic and silent, taking a shadowy step into the background so their music can truly take centre stage.

mixing abstract hip-hop and house, blutch s style is mind-blowing and striking, with touches of groove and heat. borrowing from pépé bradock, francis inferno orchestra,cuthead, andrés, shigeto and massive attack, blutch has forged a unique musical identity all along his career, always with this strong desire to combine several universes into a single entity.
in january 2015 blutch revealed his creative genius with his first ep, equilibrium. he will soon revisit a voluptuous set mixing trip hop, the softness of electronica and a hypnotic deephouse. requilibrium unites 9 artists in one project that represents blutch’ diverse musical spectre. friends, idols, people who we loved to collaborate with, spend time with, get to know better. the r stands for the remix, the reinterpretation of blutch’ ep equilibrium. each artist gives new life to one of the tracks, spicing them up to their liking. cuthead transforms « skyview » in a straight-up house floor killer while maxime dangles takes « chocolates & hamburgers » to gloomy, cold electronic heights. between these two extremes the music gradually and cleverly evolves track by track. melodiesinfonie opens up in complete serenity with his take on « a. » which takes us straight into summer with our feet in the sand. tito wun follows up perfectly with his version of “wildstar” that is stacked with groovy samples. next up is keroué, member of the band fixpensill. he puts his rhymes on a stellar edit by ywnwa. jenovah choses to take “deep diving” on a bass-driven path while pavane sees and raises that with an orchestral version of anyoma. it’s up to the brothers ark & pit spector to close out the ep by taking « elis » into deeper territory.
