shortly after aussteiger s successful debut on dub disco we knew exactly that we wanted our long time friends s&w on board for our second release. these guys have been a huge influence on us for a long time now. first we fell in love with their eclectic and powerful dj sets and when we heard the demos of these hardware nerds we were truly blown away. when we asked them to produce our second release they handcrafted this ep full of lovely analogue sounds for us. it surely stands in contrast to the first record and by that underlines exactly what dub disco is about: a journey through the vastness of electronic music.

the mighty flames were a crack bunch of cameroonian musicians, drawn to nigeria by the heavy funk sounds booming across the border like musical moths. for a short time in the late sentries they ‘owned’ port harcourt, destroying dancefloors with an incendiary sound that burned so heavily that it was phosphorescent. metalik funk band is the band at their most deadly.

claudio casalini s best record label does a fine job of reissuing funk, disco and other curios from the mists of time, and so it goes with this wonderful slice of loose and live soul jazz. grupo almendra hailed from venezuela, and they released their sole album almendra in 1978 in a whirlwind of latin american musicality and it had been consigned to relative obscurity. whichever digger was lucky enough to discover this gem must have been very pleased indeed, for the quality of the music and the production is nothing short of remarkable, while the remastering has respectfully revived the sweet, soulful sound of grupo almendra.

up first is get enough, seven minutes of seductive techno that has an almost machine-gun like disco synth firing across the groove. it is a rumbling peak time track with real force and energy that will bring any floor to life. the title track, toleranz, is a gritty and stripped back basement cut with dry hits and burrowing acid bass that takes you deep into the night. cobra then proves this pair have real breadth in the studio and is a barrel chested house cut with more big hits, rib rattling bass and incendiary techno hi hats that really get you on your toes. remixing are the tech duo of pleasurekraft, whose releases on octopus and mood records have won them plenty of dj and dancing fans. they layer in some dark melodies to sq80 and build it steadily before allowing the militant drums and crisp snares to explode and drive you and the whole club forwards.

last year saw casablanca-based cosmo records launch its most ambitious project todate, celebrating five years of cross-cultural collaboration. the three vinyl releasesfeatured producers such as san proper, radiq, pier bucci and dandy jack working with moroccan musicians to create a true fusion between modern electronics and ancient traditions. the purpose of cosmo has always been to find a natural meeting place between thesedistinct musical forms, bringing out the best strengths of each practice through real time spent together in the studio, where each artist can truly understand the other in a shared quest for sonic harmony. as such, this latest release marks a step forward in exploring this idea through a new series entitled cosmo jam. as the title suggests, the focus here is on live improvisation. in late 2014 parisian producers masomenos and vadim svoboda travelled to morocco and set up their equipment at the coda casablanca music center. they were joined by m’hamed el menjra playing bass, abdessamad boussahfa on violin and sanhaji on darbuka, and the ensuing jam sessions between these musicians now make their way on to vinyl. no editing or post-production took place – the music you hear on the record was created entirely in the moment. each track highlights the magic of a different instrument – on “be” menjra’s double bass comes twisting through effects processing and subtle distortion, meeting with a low-slung broken beat groove from the visiting french producers. sanhaji’s thrilling percussive flair on the darbuka flirts perfectly with the crisp programming of drums and bass on the uptempo “kaled” and the more laid-back “petit”. boussahfa’s violin makes for some of the most arresting moments on the release, meeting with intricate minimalist rhythms on “mon” and shining in the heart-rending ambience of “frere”. presented across two 12”s, this collection of six tracks tells a most honest account of how gifted artists from entirely different disciplines can find a common ground and create something truly unique. without any studio trickery to hide behind, this is the concept of cosmo records laid bare, and the results prove it is a concept worth exploring further.

limited repress due to high demand on requests. eating records was born in the brussels underground scene, inspired by the idea of synthesizing two different horizons to get a beautiful concept. in the beginning it was simply the need to go back to roots and try to connect with the present and future, but eventually it ended up with a modern groovy label. the first release of the label was not that easy to find. the eclectic worlds of the two members did not really help them. but that was until they found jr from dallas - a talented dj producer from lille, owner of gourmand music recording - maybe food is the key... who knows ? jr has always been a forward-moving artist, but his music cannot - and should not - be mapped linearly. after releasing on labels as farris wheel recordings and greenhouse recordings, he had nowhere to go but backward for his new ep on eating records to its 90 old school beats and hypnotizing basses. phonical deep is gorgeous and evocative all the same. technival is stylish enough, and it is as restlessly creative as you would expect. it is followed by the hypnotic and beautiful remix of jay bliss of phonical deep - the eps final track. the fact is, jay bliss has managed to create something so refreshingly unique that trying to categorize and label his remix is rather dubious. he transformed the original melodic part to a blissful pad embellished with a repetitive rhythm spiced with tiny subtle details. it is easier to see this remix as the backbone of electronic music - simple and repetitive but never boring.

an independent band since 1998, dub inc are nonetheless fully acclaimed by the entire reggae scene. the group won no less than three victoires du reggae awards (in 2014 for the paradise album, in 2011 for hors contrôle, and 2008 for afrikya). in 2016, they are back with a sixth lp, so what. no doubt this one will be yet another important landmark. completely self-produced, as is their habit and will, this fourteen-track record is the result of a long process of composing and writing songs inspired by the dark events that have been going on in france in the last few months. featuring a mix of dancehall, hip-hop, and electronica influences, so what is a pure reggae album upholding the values of this rebellious, spiritual, and universal music genre.

nested structure is the first great circles release from artists outside of philadelphia. thrive are tetsuya yoshida and hitoshi kojima. they both grew up in the north kanto area of japan. they first met at the club run by tetsuya yoshida called sound a base nest, which is known as having the best sound system in the north kanto area. in 2007, the duo started their dj / producing unit thrive. previous releases have included a split 12inch with keia yano for japanese label struct, and recent solo releases by hitoshi for always human tapes and for his own label ambivalent deviation. this record almost didnt happen! — tetsuya and hitoshi were picking up great circles records in japan and, having periodically communicated with each other about music, they sent us the struct 12inch to check out. while cleaning out the back of the car a few months later, the presumably empty record mailer was about to land in the recycle bin when we fortunately discovered a demo cd of unreleased thrive material inside. we drove around listening to it and week later we agreed to release a 12inch. the music on the nested structure 12inch is dark, foreboding, even outwardly threatening. its hypnotic, textural and rhythmically complex.

there is a way to reach into the pulse of everything. it comes when ideas are stripped down to their bare essentials, blossoming then into massive monoliths that are designed with elegant simplicity. such is the path taken on our next limited 7inch, led by chronicle veterans staffan linzatti and new comer to the stable, arnuad le texier. entitled far behind the line, it embarks with a sense of soaring weightless that only arnaud can provide. radar is a statement of futurism, thrusting the listener forward and farther into the in nite. its sonic qualities mimic radio towers, satellites, and frequencies transmitted from the far reaches of the unknown.destination acts as the perfect counter, disrupting the psyche in all the right ways with dissonant wails and unearthly chimes. together they come as a distinct package, presenting an impressionistic interpretation of what may come, or what already has.

the second release on arcing seas by label heads cassegrain. this new material presents the duos very individual approach to tonality within the techno framework, combined with a subtle tribal influence. maintaining their aim, they keep things exciting for the club as well as sonically. label info: arcing seas is an anagram of cassegrain. it started out as a secret alias, releasing a couple eps on our circula sound. the secret was less well kept after the duo appeared at berghain under this name. a year later, after deciding to start a label, it finally made sense to bring the two together.

analysis of time casts an almighty spell over the universe with the analysis of time ep on too many squares. infectious cosmic disco vibes that conjure up visions of a future world as much as they do classic 80s sc-fi movies.

fortuna records have gone all out and reissued one of the most insane, far out records to have ever come out of lebanon. originally released in 1980, raja zahr’s “drum sequence” is a ‘get crazy’, experimental disco monster, utilizing middle eastern percussion and analog synthesisers, so mind boggling they would keep any dancefloor begging for more. and there is more. two additional tracks of lebanese percussion madness by raja make this an essential triple banger previously known only to serious collectors with cash to burn. meticulously remastered for club use and approved by mr zahr himself, this crispy 12” is one for the freaks. so go on then.

berlin-cologne based duo atlantik is well known for incredible ravish live sets. people go ballistic! georg and clemens played their set more than three years ago on one of the parties and everybody instantly felt in love with it. atlantik has got a residency at the world famous sisyphos berlin where they set up their impressing analog machine park on a regular basis. the snö ep contains two original tracks plus a crispy remix by feines tier friend schlepp geist.

the rigologo side features a ghost future track that takes you back to the chicago of 1994, but adds that little something extra. rawmental then pushes through into detroit territory with an epic and infectious synth jam. the techno side, launches with a club ready techno burner from captcha (aka strip steve) and finishes with a nate tone track. an essential debut release.

the duo gravity disturbance opens with the first reference of his newly founded label ritual waves, where they intend to worship the electronics from his serious, dark and hypnotic perspective. his first proposal “unsynchronized movement” has three tracks created in 2014 (the year in which this formation is born) and representing the mutation that has been his personal vision of techno, without renouncing its essence purely underground. gravity disturbance finds its place in the production and makes the leap to the scene, where they have much to contribute.

black truffle is thrilled to announce reverse tree, the new lp from the acclaimed duo of eyvind kang and jessika kenney, two musicians who have established themselves as powerful voices working at a unique intersection of contemporary composition, improvisation, and asian traditional music forms. either individually or as a pair, they have worked in contexts ranging from performances of traditional persian and javanese music to collaborations with sunn o), but their work together as a duo (documented on the face of the earth and aestuarium, both released on ideological organ/editions mego) most clearly represents the central concerns of their diverse practices: a music of the inner life of sound, demanding ritualistic focus and promising heightened sensations.

brand new, rambunctious, rootsy, spiritual brass-band music from lagos, with singing, drums and home-made percussion. obadikah is a group of old friends who play together in the cherubim & seraphim and baptist churches of the ikeja and isale eko districts. a couple of them were founder-members of the eko brass band, they’ve played with pretty much all the key nigerian reggae artists. the tunes are mostly traditional yoruban melodies, often sung at bed-time. the songs are mostly original, sung in yoruba (though jomido is an egun song from the badagry area of lagos state).
