since his 2011 debut lp *bible eyes*, psutka has been busy with various studio production projects as well as recording and touring with his side-project hiawatha. his return as egyptrixx takes the form of a multi-media collaboration with berlin-based visual artist a.n.f. (andreas fischer). together the pair focused on a process - a set of meaning-through-reduction principles applied to both sound and video - with atmosphere, repetition and texture given priority over traditional ideas of narrative and song structure.

hvnxx is one of the most special projects weve taken part in as a label. some months ago the xx and young turks asked our artists to remix tracks from coexist. it was a big honour and also a big responsi- bility, specially considering that the xx is one of our favourite bands. the outcome of such challenge is a four-track ep that showcases the sound of both well-established members of the hivern family, such as marc pinol and new jackson, and upcoming talents such as round and mistakes are ok. all four remixes are pretty different among them, but they all manage to maintain the distinctive spirit of the original songs in their own way. marc pinol takes fiction to the good ol days of chicago house, laying the original vocals on top of analog drum-machines and a rubbery bassline to that suggest an imaginary collaboration between adonis and oliver sim. the elusive mistakes are ok maintains the tropical vibe of reunion but provides a warped atmosphere combining breezy chimes with static haze and a propulsive bass that boosts the song towards the second part of the remix. hiverns latest signee round transforms the fragility of missing into a soothing house cut through uplifting organ chords and vigorous rhythms fulfilling dancefloor demands without loosing its melancholic character. finally, new jackson proves once again his knack with nocturnal ambiences flipping swept away into a sensuous deep-house gem guided by an absorbing piano and a slow but steady groove. the release comes in an embossed sleeve with artwork designed by arnau pi. hvnxx is a co-release with young turks.

fresh from lovers rock: two new hypnotic live takes from ital, recorded at red bull studios in madrid this june. aptly-titled a-side *throbbing* rides a spiraling arpeggio in and out of focus against a jacking 909 beat, while *nodding* builds from a simple motif into a resonating, full-immersion soundscape.
continuing the thread started earlier this year with his 12 inch for workshop and the interplanetary prophets collaboration with jamal moss, *throbbing / nodding* showcases itals move away from a computer-based approach into live hardware. the results are two stunning balancing acts, simultaneously propulsive and melting, mysterious and raw.

egyptrixx gives a glimpse into his forthcoming second album on night slugs with the vinyl-only cut *water (reduced)*. the hi-definition crystalline world of his previous album *bible eyes* has sunken, submerged. *water* takes place in some vast molten expanse, a subterranean electrical storm expressed as acid-tech. this 12 inch features the reduced dub, stripped of melody to for full hypnotic effect. the full version can be heard on the forthcoming album, titled *a/b til infinity*. on the flip: helix keeps bootlegging our records. he cuts up the masters and edits them up like fruity loops lego, applying the same post-timbaland stutter-logic that was amplified so dramatically in 03-06 grime. here he puts his hand to egyptrixx blastbeats-heavy *adult*, also taken from the forthcoming *a/b til infinity* lp. the results are extremely punishing but compelling listening.

while waiting for the new jonsson & alter album 2, the duo releases their best 12-inch so far. we say welcome back to a matured duo, whose poetic take on house music hits harder than ever.

if chicago and detroit are the cities in which house and techno were born and raised, it was in italy circa 1990 that this delirious party music experienced a piano-driven coming of age. so far, so spangled. but while that may be the official story, there are other italian narratives too. take francois le roy and nanni for instance - two djs and producers from southern italy for whom, in the early nineties, the likes of aphex twin, autechre and air liquide were important, alongside the machine funk of detroit and the immersive soundtracks of the ambient generation. both artists are steeped in underground club music, and their new release on shabby doll records is a fine example of tough, tech-edged house. the *crossing roads* ep features four tracks that showcase their melodic yet relentless groove, they may be based in milan, but on this record, the influence of detroit, chicago and new york runs deep.

mike gill who has already featured on roots for bloom teams up with taymor zadeh to bring us the coppin a feel ep featuring a john dimas remix. the a side *coppin a feel* brings us hard hitting groove with a hypnotic vocal line carrying the track. loose percussion and bold tom drums really cement this to work on any dance floor. the b side cut *the message* is a more rolling groove with a strong rhodes line that features later on really making the track evolve. john dimas takes *the message* and takes the atmosphere up a notch, with slick cut up vocals. this one will work in the early hours.

the remix package kicks off with a reworking from alexi delano who has recorded for poker flat, harthouse. items and things, plus 8 amongst others who takes the title track secret moon in a deep and spacious house direction with their superb mix that works from the off. l.a. artist david alvarado steps up next on kazantrip and drops a driving slice of brooding techno that is perfect warehouse material. last, and no means least, is the rather legendary d. digglers live dub interpretation. the urgent low end tribal nature provides a solid backdrop for the fluid elements of the original to drift over. this wax edition release is a rich & complex package of mixes with real depth and is another stellar single from the ever­impressive klartraum and certainly worth to be pressed on lucid vinyl.

after take 1 comes take 2, it sometimes really is that simple. together with the pre-take that came out before the summer this third volume in wphs our beat is still new project completes the 12 tracks that form the album. more members of the core wph family are on board here, but we also welcome some newcomers to the label.

on and on the amsterdam based artist and events agency recently launched their new musical venture on records with an ep from jeff rushin & nicole rosie. 001 received a wealth of warm support and today on returns with its new release from fellow dutch artists, doka & shltr.
for 002 on takes a trip to the south of the netherlands (via amsterdam). doka is a name on the on rise. his uncompromising, relentless productions has already seen release on wolfksuil and android muziq and he a regular on the dutch techno circuit. dub techno is the first love of shltr and his own production style also touches on ambient and electronica. together the pair form an impressive partnership, melding their sounds and styles in perfect harmony to create two stunning original tracks in skarn and sovite. keeping it dutch, on welcome darko esser in his tripeo guise on the remix of skarn. the wolfskuil and balans boss has been blazing a trail with his ltd vinyl only tripeo series and is now taking the act on the road. here he takes skarn on a beautifully powerful acid-laced trip that is certain to please.

best known for his work on l.i.e.s and with steve summers as confused house, nik dawson aka bookworms drops an absolute banger on barcelona based label anomia. fans of the hazy textures of confused house here will be surely taken a back by the fact that the opening gambit on this ep, *mechanism* is utterly tonking. *photogenic* is another rushing weapon, while the closing track is a beautiful ambient piece. seriously killer ep, we can not recommend this enough!

horo was a cloak attached to the back of armour worn by elite samurai messengers in wartime. capturing an elite tsukai-ban messenger wearing a horo was a coveted prize and in much the same way, a release on horo is a prize, a reward for artists willing to experiment, take risks and truly progress. this has been demonstrated by the fact we now have artists writing music specifically for the horo series.

the (lost) story of aka dance music. chicago 1987-88!

a very unique style... whim-ee, aka sara garcia is a french dj/producer. originally from recife, brazil she relocated to paris as a child where she began her journey into music via classical piano school for nine years. whim-ee later began experimenting with electronic music, injecting her own unique fusion of house, techno, jazz, funk, and soul.

the manic brothers ep begins with praying mantis , a deep techno offering using a swelling bass line that rumbles under the track whilst the distinctive synth phrase shifts the groove of the track. life after life is a more euphoric and delicate take on techno and uses subtle percussion and melodies to create an ethereal felt track.

after appearances on idle hands and brstl, rhythmic theory returns to their own imprint to further explore gritty textures and mysterious moods within house and techno frameworks. where theory001 featured the somewhat soothing, melancholic tones of >echo vibe< and >omega syndrome<, this second installment comes caked in sonic muck and abrasive attitude.its not all dark and foreboding, as the graceful filter-swept key refrain of >siren song< will attest, but it takes a barrage of rasping hats and bludgeoning kicks and toms before such niceties can be foisted upon our ears. while there is an optimistic lilt to the particular notes the melody calls out, in the midst of such machismo percussion it cant help but feel emotionally ambiguous, continuing the tone set out in the first rhythmic theory releases.there is no such confusion over b side cut >genesis< from the apocalyptic boom of the opening kick to the rapid gun fire of the snare this is a track that wants to inflict damage. at the midway point the searing beat melts away as a wash of delay-riddled speech knocks you from your centre of gravity, only for the drums to come whipping back in to pick up the slack. even the sole synth note that rears its head is devoid of compassion, pulsing a creepy, robotic intonation through the clamour.
