obscure dutch private pressing from 1977. laid-back instrumental psychedelic / progressive sounds with jazz-funk-groove and abstract / experimental / latin-indigenous touches. stoned homemade atmosphere with treated / distorted electric & acoustic guitars, flute, electric piano, primitive drum machines / homemade electronics. much in the vein of the experimental-underground scene of france & germany during the early 70s but actually recorded and released in holland.

felix nisblé is putting out the 3rd release under his blint moniker. continuously searching for those short moments of self-empowerment, which keep popping up and slipping right back through his hands, again and again. b003 tries to capture some of this emotion with two tracks, oscillating heavily between euphoria and delusion.
“ghostworks” on the a-side feels like blindly walking through a forest in the middle of a storm, with lots of ghosts whispering through the trees. on the b-side there is “footworks”, which sounds like an out-of-snyc robot drummer is getting chased away by the police. both tracks connect through their simple yet beautifully silly basslines, which are paving the way for some heavily pounding drumtracks.

detroit duo ataxia offer up their kodak moment ep via visionquest this march, accompanied by an edit from label co-founders shaun reeves and ryan crosson. eric ricker and ted krisko aka ataxia have been at the forefront of the contemporary house and techno scene for some time, racking up releases on some of the leading labels across the globe such as leftroom, nervous, culprit and play it say it, making the duo one of detroits finest exports in recent years. here we see them making their debut on visionquest, the label of fellow detroit natives ryan crosson, shaun reeves and lee curtiss. vhs leads the package with murky synth swells, resonant synth sweeps and fluttering square wave bass tones at its core as shuffled drums carry the ever-evolving hypnotic groove along. the original mix of kodak moment follows, shifting the focus over to snaking bass lines, mind-bending, modulating synth whirrs and dynamic, choppy percussion throughout. reeves & crossons edit of kodak moment then rounds out the release, stripping things back to ethereal atmospherics and shuffled drums whilst subtly stirring in the original’s hooky bass groove as the interpretation unfolds.

chuck cissel, from tulsa, oklahoma, recoded just two albums in 1979 and 1982 respectively, both for arista at the time and reissued together on cd by expansion in 2014. he is best known in disco circles for ‘cisselin’ hot’, but over the last two decades has become renonwned for “don’t tell me you’re sorry” in northern and crossover soul circles. today it is his most sought after record, orignal copies worth £150. the track is also written about in richard searling’s new book “putting the record straight”.

uk hip hop’s original and best live band are back with brand new album ‘bring out the sound’, released in march 2018 on bbe music. founded in the early 90s by ollie teeba and jake wherry, the herbaliser have earned every single accolade they’ve received during almost 25 years of touring and recording. best known for delivering a series of groundbreaking albums on ninja tune and providing one of the all-time highlights of the ‘fabric live’ mix series, the herbaliser’s most recent lp ‘there were seven’ was issued on their own ‘department h’ imprint back in 2012. having worked with hip hop royalty such as jazzy jeff and pete rock over the years, not to mention releasing j dilla’s first and last solo albums, bbe are delighted to share in the herbaliser’s musical journey.
