so this is why we founded van doumen. it is a rework sublabel, completely based on original doumen material, following the idea of tracks that work in dj sets, but still have the doumen spirit. the first record was done by scherbe (uncanny valley, big bait, ..), philipp matalla (kann records, internasjonal spesial, ..), webermichelson (holger) and potensia (modern soul, ..). the first two tracks are superb club smashers, followed by an angry caricature monster of techno and finally potensia walks you home in the most intimate and beautiful way possible. to be honest, we say this record as a first step of van doumen is a classic already.

*turn me on* by jay w. mcgee is the third release in a series of sought after boogie, disco and modern soul re-issues on légère recordings. the original 12inch vinyl single appeared on the tiny canadian indie label love productions in 1980 and is immensely hard to find these days. *turn me on* is an unusual production for its time, grooving along unbelievably deep in a spartanic arrangement, and fuelled by vocals which are not too far away from sylvesters iconic style of mixing soul, disco, funk and jazz.

the la based artist kauf has been honing his own dark twist on modern electronic music since 2011, with heavy drum production, dense, cinematic synth buildups and high-pitched, echo-laden vocals. his aesthetic lies somewhere in between the worlds of slow house, industrial dance and drony avant-pop earning comparisons with the likes of caribou, matthew dear and toro y moi.
the as much again ep is kaufs most substantial release to date and (much like the artwork) paints a dark, but distinctive picture of the man himself, as a unique and undeniable talent.

untolds pennyroyal imprint drops its fourth release in august, a four track ep from techno heavyweights ben sims and paul macs fokus group project entitled fokus group ep. started by the hemlock recordings man earlier in 2013, pennyroyal has so far released ballsy, uncompromising modern techno by j tijn and boner m and that musical remit continues with sims and macs hardcore fuelled, selftitled assault. nut nut, mucky crack funk, 93.2 and rave x3 = murder and the titles and they pretty much speak for themselves – there is a reckless abandon across all four cuts that musically gives off a distinct old school feel feel without getting bogged down in self conscious retro aesthetics.
