dana ruh’s brouqade has long been renowned for its many eclectic and unpredictable sounds. in that essence, the label’s latest signing is a fitting fit. kamran sadeghi is an nyc based electronic music producer who is well versed in unconventional soundscapes. as likely to release an electronic music ep as he is turn his hand to film scores or more ambient textures, sadeghi has collaborated with everyone from patti smith to berlin club, berghain. a live artist of considerable depth and panache, his signing to brouqade marks another high point in the label’s story.

tv showw is a new record label from paris. we are very proud to launch the label with an ep from one of chicago s most prolific and inventive electronic musicians : jamal moss a.k.a. hieroglyphic being or i.b.m., among others. jai/mahl is his fresh new alias especially created for this ep. the three tracks are made for the dancefloor (four-to-the-floor) while not diluting his signature oddity made of sonic textures and damaged rhythms. moss calls his style -synth expressionism- or -rhythmic cubism.-

xixa balance ep (apa002) abstract places audio elusive producer xixa delivers the second abstract places audio release. balance is a three-track ep where the co-founder of the label packs a solid techno sound drowned in complex and evolving atmospheres. as first label’s release (clip - gebre, 2016), this is not a 100% club record, we can hear ambient and idm influences, but a1 and b1 are perfect tracks to keep a techno set full of rhythm and tension, and will get its place on any dj record bag. a1 balance is built around a distorted but controlled techno beat. patiently, a wide palette of drones and other-worldly artefacts are growing next to carefully crafted percussive sounds. 1984 opens the b side of the 12”, with a 4 to the floor overdriven bass drum and a reverse reverb announcing its main synth sequence, accompanied by organic hi-hats and clap sounds. a collection of ethereal drones and noises is also used, giving the track a sense of cohesion and gluing its different parts. life inside a snow ball is xixa s personal take on ambient. some of the drones and artefacts from a1 are now mixed with new quasi- harmonic emotional textures and subtle noises emerging from a deep unknown space and forming a complete new sonic experience. balance ep is a very solid second release by abstract places audio that confirms the label sound and philosophy.

under his guises blessed initiative and ketev, as well as his own name, composer and sound artist yair elazar glotman has explored extended techniques and processes to forge new sonic textures and musical forms. compound picks up where the previous solo work under glotman’s own name - 2015’s Études - left off. the acoustic sound palette has now expanded from solo contrabass into a trio including pianist rieko okuda and percussionist marcello silvio busato.

uk house & techno heavyweights dusky return to their 17 steps label with the classic house indebted ‘square miso’, picking up swiftly where this summer’s hugely successful ‘cold heart’ ep left off - the lead track an ever present in gerd janson’s summer dj sets.
already recognisable to many from dusky’s festival sets as well as jackmaster’s recent circo loco terrace recording, ‘square miso’ draws on the swing of classic nyc house with soulful, cut-up vocal samples and tightly programmed beats, whilst paying tribute to the ‘90s italian house classics with its distinctive piano melodies - with a dash of shades of rhythm-era uk rave for good measure. as well as the club-ready original, a beat less piano and strings ‘reprise’ is also included.
a darker, detroit-nodding club tool, ‘lf10’ blends heavy-hitting stabs, atmospheric melodic textures and house grooves. an immersive roller, like ‘square miso’ it serves as another example of the duo’s ability to blend different influences into unique hybrids.
with 2017 releases from b.k.r & jamie jones, christian piers, bwana and kiwi, dusky’s 17 steps has become an increasingly prolific outlet of forward thinking house and techno - with support from gerd janson, midland, len faki, maya jane coles, tiga and george fitzgerald among others.

alter is the new album from belgium-based double bass player and electronic producer otto lindholm. divided into four colour-inspired, long-form movements, alter takes off from lindholms previous work a self-titled album released in 2015 on icarus records, and pushes the already abundant palette of sounds even further. this new work is more brooding and hypnotic. a deep, resonating bass is present - hinting at the likes of greek, chamber-doom merchants mohammad but perhaps with more attention placed upon textures and melody. the record moves at a funereal pace and opener fauve hits abyssal depths from the outset. a bowed melody is coaxed through the throbbing bass with dissonant harmonics drawing you in and holding you close. the ghostly beginnings of alyscamps create an overwhelmingly tense atmosphere where acoustic and electronic elements collide and evolve into a heaving, ceremonious drone. shafts of light emerge through the fog but the tone remains a haunted one. closer, heliotrope, strikes a more hopeful note. a lighter, more open feel emerges - bringing to mind early work of the rachels or perhaps deaf center.

you could be forgiven for thinking bassos (label owner) been hitting the plant food of late. last time out we took a trip with trance, and now our esoteric expert nods his head, rolls his shoulders and drops a house record on our unexpecting asses. thats right folks, roll up the rug, push the sofa back and enjoy some ‚personal growth‘ from james booth. . operating a million miles away from the kick and hiss of the trendy lo-fi folks, the berlin based producer favours subtle rhythms, delicate textures and tender melodies - turning out a string of sophisticated dance floor winners for 100% silk, church and no bad days. now he brings his organic house stylings to the growing bin with a fresh five-tracker packed with all the warmth of a tempelhof picnic on a balmy july afternoon.

unknown mobile has quietly carved out a place for himself in the ever-evolving vancouver beat camp among contemporaries like mood hut, 1080p and project pablo. last years no motion 12 on a/s/l singles club was levi bruces dreamy introduction to most, and 2017 finds him stretching out a bit to further expand his palate of rhythms and textures across the five track mixed use ep for young adults. four sided pebble is a breezy bouncer woven with tickled keys, raw bass and a seamlessly organic live feel throughout. shoreline dub pulses in stuttered syncopation, but keeps its sights set on the dusk dusted horizon with delayed rhodes chords and ocean swells. country side is a total mind-melt, a pastoral graze through mazes of circuit board crop circles. the juggler churns a buttery 4/4 beat in an echo chamber, while proteus 216 dims the lights on its way out to an interstellar communications convention.

chicago’s carington pierre, also known as lanzo, has bestowed evidence of his cosmic hip hop beatology to the cold busted label in the form of a new album, omnipotent. previously recording for blvnt records and the natural selection label, lanzo specializes in a style of experimental hip hop that draws from boom-bap, soulful downtempo, and atmospheres that lean toward the celestial. lanzo and his trusty mpc 1000 have been actively producing since 2008 and omnipotent confrms his upward trajectory, presenting ffteen tasty sonic morsels that groove in a confdent but abstract fashion. highlights include “comfort zone” which envelopes a swinging rhythm in dreamy strings, distant voices, and rolling bass, and the odd but appealing “gutter balls”, featuring some deliciously drunken synths. there’s also the melancholy quiet storm of “colours”, “against the wall” and its heavily processed beat magic, and the loping sci-f jazz of “between friends”. omnipotent is a heady listen, displaying textures and swirls that accentuate the sturdiness of its drum beats. lanzo has provided a distinctive soundtrack that’s ready-made for day blazing or night groovin’.

another smasher from nous, this time courtesy of cofaxx, aka joseph magee and his boundlessly breathtaking pico vu ep, a seven tracker that manages to cover immense ground and knowledge within a compact narrative. and each track is a mandatory component of this cleverly assembled story with startling standouts such as dicey a deep detroity piece, layering into a sound signaturey space, while la s seasoned producer brown irvin closes side 1 with a bolshier bash at opening track tide pool s ambient, semi-conscious swirlings. over on the flip velvet is all golden era electronica stylings, early days warp and planet e on a lingering dinner date, while shape to fade in s smoky textures straddle irridescent sounds for a not-out-of-place jazzy backroom style builder.

pleiade hex 6 is comprised of mostly instrumental suites that are narrative in nature. cyclical patterns are central to the compositions: exploring harmony and counterpoint as they ebb & are reincarnated, shadows cast by silences and textures, and the perpetual return to the heart/core.

emotional rescue turns its attention to spanish artist luis delgado, who made a name for himself fusing traditional folk music from across the globe with experimental electronic practice. his first album vathek stands as one of his masterworks, originally released in 1986 and featuring a range of different electro-acoustic approaches that draw you in with their strange, dynamic textures. there s a whiff of jon hassell s treated trumpet about -la puerta de ebano- while -el sacrificio de catoul- deals in a dense weave of chimes and percussion. diverse, engrossing listening from the outer reaches.

after a short hiatus to axe on wax and his return to tieffrequent records monosoul is coming back to s4aw, too... monosoul s signature sound is still there and yet has changed a bit. more bouncing basslines, more deepness and more synth textures... on remix credits we ve got atlanta s very own byron the aquarius. 2016 was an exceptionally good year for him in the biz with releases on wild oats, sound signature, etc. in 2017 he will totally go big with his unique, deep - no frills jazzy impro style. so we re more than happy with his own chord jams making up a top notch remix. what s left to be said well like michael brody put it: nothing is more important than friendship. not money, not fame, not death. crew love is true love!

combining forces, audiofly and patrice bäumel draw on unique inspirations from the desert to deliver the monumental atacama on crosstown rebels. having focused solely on his own productions in the past, label boss damian lazarus steps away for the first time to complete this exceptional release with a profound re-shape. the hypnotic atacama intricately builds with a certain intensity that never drops, stimulating the senses and transporting the mind as deep, grumbling pads drift in and out of play. damian lazarus remembers the first moment i heard this track i knew there was something very special about it, not only did it strike me as a killer club record but i also felt the textures completely appropriate to my own experiences in the atacama desert. on the flip, damian changes gear as a deep, chugging beat leads the way through an impressive re-shape of the original. anthony middleton and luca saporito aka audiofly have established a creative empire, which includes two record labels and their flying circus global party brand. they met patrice during a us tour and immediately hit it off. it wasn t long after that we decided to invite him to barcelona for a session that proved to be nothing short of inspirational. internationally renowned dj and producer patrice bäumel has had a busy start to 2017 with a release on tale of us’ afterlife imprint, plus remixes for sasha & policia and depeche mode amongst others. he truthfully said of the this release, it s a labour of love that came together within a few hours of jamming in the studio, unlike many collabs this one really felt like we all equally contributed to the end result.

drumcode continues its commitment to releasing the scene s most cutting-edge techno. with releases this year already from adam beyer, pig&dan, alan fitzpatrick, dense & pika and julian jeweil, this july sees the return of enrico sangiuliano with astral projection. after his remix of mobys of why does my heart feel so bad back in november last year, enrico sought creative inspiration from his travels, transcending that into his productions and long studio sessions during the winter months. the result brings a mind and body melting release from the italian producer. the title track astral projection is a captivating, big room techno masterpiece. deep reverberations punch alongside a sinisterly crisp percussive drive. launching into a groove laden synth modulation of low end textures, it breaks down into an ethereal amalgamation of pads and synths before the vocal launches, taking this track to another level. ‘blooming era has destructive dancefloor intent. there is no holding back with the low end synth modulation which enrico has mastered to perfection. a tightly woven percussive flare moulds flawlessly with the rolling oscillations of the beast of this track. if you have seen label head honcho adam beyer playing anywhere on the globe in the last 5 months, this has been a peak time favourite. road-tested to the max, and with much success.

there s no compromise, with anesthesia the third release on nurse and latest from japanese maestro tomohiko sagae where he aims to numb your pain, bringing together his own mutant brand of techno and the harsh noise so many of his fellow countrymen are revered for. procaine #1 is pure noise with screams of metal grinding against metal and the relentless chaos of a 21st century working dockyard. procaine #2 where an explosive barrage of abrasive textures is underpinned by a brutal rhythmic intensity. tetracaine almost blows itself to pieces with rumbling bass, scoured heavy mechanics and industrial drones. finally lidocaine distorted and break beaten, is a monster born out of heavy duty avionics. disorientating, fierce, an assault on your senses.

dream diary is a label operating out of brixton that has previously featured the likes of afriqua, tom gillieron and richie littler on its roster, and now it s the turn of the head honcho oslo roma to serve up some more of that subversive four-to-the-floor business. mars water- is an infectious minimal roller with bass that wraps itself around your cerebellum and pulls you in deeper, while -bubbles- does the same but without any drums to buffet it along. how good is the party is a more experimental affair that deals with off kilter rhythmic fragments and spaced out textures, leaving ep closer twotet to drop a more immediate slice of electro on the situation.

resonance is the debut 12inch by the duo golden mean. a beat stripped down to its essence, while a voice and strips of melody become textures wrapped around it. hazy, sensual, hypnotic. lose yourself in the dark. lose yourself in the sound...

iury lech is a transdisciplinary artist of ukrainian origin part of the few pioneers in the spanish electronic and digital audio-visual scene that began to develop during the 80s. his open and unclassifiable style made of eerie sonic atmospheres, arrhythmic structures and dense textures create hypnotic ambiance and a new way to conceive experimentalism. wrongly described as new age music at that time, musica para el fin de los cantos is a stunning and deeply emotive ambient work, that stares down at the eternal enigma, giving a glimpse of iury lech s classical music of the future. iury recorded this blissful masterpiece in his barcelona s studio in 1989. it was then published in 1990 by the unique spanish label hyades arts. its 2017 and its time to unearth this magical piece of vibrating chords to please your sensitive yet hungry ears. sit back and enjoy the meditative state.

that cyberpunk chameleon of styles, manchester’s pride and dancefloor master ruf dug is back on wax on copenhagen’s music for dreams. following up the first 12” of remixes that came out last year, we once again re-visit the island life of monsieur ruffy and his debut full length album “island” (recorded during a sojourn on guadeloupe). first up we have italians on the mix. hi-jacking ruffy’s tribute to wally badarou, leo mas and fabrice opt to do their own thing: which is churning out a bouncing house belter of their own that bears little resemblance to the original lo-fi synth reverie. closer to the original then, is fellow mancunian andi hanley’s take on the same track. adding sparse percussion and and a simple but effective drum beat, this take seems to simply be an uncovered second half of the original, where it finally takes off for the dancefloor. “mangrove dub” is reworked by fresh-on-the-scene aussie producer tropical hi-fi who creates a brilliant version full of moist ambient textures and reverb-heavy dub treatments. at last but definitely not least, seahawks turns the whimsical hippie folk ballad “le rayon vert” into a more intense and neatly dressed affair, focusing on the instrumental parts and lifting aside vocalist nev cotte’s contribution to the original. still with a mindful of tropical dreams and the ocean shore close at hand, but in a more introvert vini reilly kind of way. essential package.
