all djs and producers around have at least one secret weapon to play. this series curated by marvin & guy is the equation that joins together very special edits from very special artists. it will be out in three volumes in different colours: first black, second grey and third white.

heutzutage suchen wir nach verlässlichen figuren in der welt. zum glück gibt es peter perrett. auf das britische musik-urgestein war schließlich schon in den späten 70ern verlass. damals bescherte er mit der band the only ones der londoner new wave bewegung den hit -another girl, another planet-, drei alben und ganz viel inspiration. letzteres wussten vor allem die kritiker. und trotzdem gelang der band niemals der totale durchbruch. danach blieb es über ein jahrzehnt ruhig um perrett. seinem drogenmissbrauch folgte das abtauchen und dann die mystifizierung seiner person. nach zwei solo-gehversuchen 1996 und 2001 brach er 2015 zu einer kleinen tour auf. dort performte er seit langem auch wieder neue songs. nun meldet sich der heute 65-jährige mit dem neuen solo-album -how the west was won- zurück. wer the only ones kennt, wird wissen, dass perrett schon früh anleihen aus dem us-rock n roll mit new wave und britischer schnauze einzigartig vermischen konnte. durchflossen von neuem elan hat er gleich einen hit genau dieser couleur mitgebracht: den albumtiteltrack. von the replacements bis hin zu violent femmes, peter perretts musik hat den sound vieler darauffolgenden bands mitgeprägt. 2017 feiert er das comeback, das keiner kommen sah.

pacific horizons are outliers, largely unconcerned with much that goes on beyond their la studio. immersed in their own universe of sound, the pair cherry pick from genres to create their own raw, lo-fi take on what, if you must pin it down, can be defined as loosely balearic. the duos sound calls on various eras of pyschedelia through the years. from the scene s roots to the very modern but always circles back to the initial shamanic intention of mind altering ritual. drawing heavily on the raw and rugged west coast for inspiration they posses a sound entirely indigenous to their locality and peers. this stark individuality has brought the project to the attention of such seminal characters as francois k, andrew weatherall and david mancuso. pacific horizons are drawn back down to earth again by deus records for a rare excursion away from their pacific wizard foundation imprint, teeing up one side of an exclusive 7-. on remix duty peaking lights provide the perfect foil. the fellow west coast artists are kindred spirits in pushing against the norm but here bring some order to the release, segueing the raw ideas into a their own blissful, rolling balearic experience. equal parts melancholia and euphoria, burning stars dub version is entirely complimentary to the original track, giving space and structure to some of the more volatile elements of the original. anything pacific horizons put their name to exists to revel in the purity and energy of the original moment of creation, little if any editing is done once the song is whole, making them the perfect artists for this limited edition release full of spontaneity and ideas. pressed on 7 inch white vinyl in full picture sleeve.

1st release in alden tyrell s latest project: vorm variaties, a 5 release series consisting of tracks recorded in the last 2 years. the vorm variaties- tracks were a style excercise for tyrell, flexing his producermuscle while health issues forced him to stop touring. initially he had no intention to release these tracks but we found them so good that we were almost forced to start this series. all tracks selected are variations on classic techno forms, using classic style ingredients and the 909. all 5 variaties are different in style, yet all homogenous, all with alden tyrell s sound signature... on point production skills and stripped down arrangements.

to follow the lucy remixes of the descent chapter i, we assembled a collection of our favourite artists to provide their interpretations of tracks from chapter ii. across the remixes, 4 totally unique creators have re built pact infernal parts into unexpected shapes, each one showing a new side to their talent, developed through re-molding the pact infernal sonic ingredients.

„umwelt’s 12inch “… city” from 1999 was one of the most impressive 12inches i had at that time and i played the shit out of it. it was dark and very emotional, it was abstract but also driving at the same time. this was 1999 though, before discogs and before facebook and all the other platforms people have now to do research on artists they like and follow their work. at that time it was the record shop – and that was it. nobody knew this guy though, and i didn’t get my hands on any of the following releases, so in my world there was no follow-up to this record ever and i thought it would remain a one-off gem in my record box. until by some coincident i recently discovered he was still around and had actually released numerous releases in the meantime. i was very excited and contacted him straight away and ended up booking him for krake festival in the same year. undoubtedly his set was one of the best of the whole festival! he took the roof off the place with his mix of raw electro, industrial and rave and everybody was talking about it afterwards, saying it was the highlight of the festival! talking to him i learnt, that most of the tracks he played were his own, mostly unreleased. he produces without computers, all his tracks are single takes, there is no editing, no mixing afterwards, he only has a stereo track recording which is what it is. he owns a cutting machine which he uses to cut dubplates from his tracks, which he then plays out during his sets. this whole information about this very unique artistic approach just killed it for me, and since working with him was so nice as well, i asked him for a demo for killekill and its labels and was hoping for tracks i could make a great 12&#8243,, of. i got 14 tracks and after weeks of trying to pick the best, i finally realized i held one of the best electro albums ever in my hand – banging beats and the balls to go big and epic, subtle melodies, drama, funk – this album has got it all, and what’s most important, the music on it is the exact opposite of so much other music nowadays: it is emotional, it tells a story, it is easily recognizable and it is not interchangeable. it’s just umwelt.“ nico deuster

britischer folk-troubadour richard dawson legt neues album peasant vor! der gitarrist und sänger richard dawson genießt bei sich zuhause in newcastle legendenstatus im bereich des progressiven folk. ende 2014 legte er mit seinem ersten domino-album nothing important ein inbrünstiges mammut-werk vor (4 songs, 45min laufzeit). hörer dieses albums verstanden schnell, dass der scheinbar schüchterne titel nur mit einem großen augenzwinkern zu verstehen sei. das spex-magazin ernannte nothing important kurzerhand zum album der ausgabe (nov 2014). man dachte, dawson könne dieses musikalische statement schwerlich toppen. auf seinem neuen album peasant beweist er das gegenteil. aus bipolaren song dekonstruktionen wurden folk-bronzen ganz neuer qualität (ogre). seine minimalistische wucht wurde mit fast biblischen chören aufgestockt (weaver). und die atonalität ist mit hilfe von so imposanten wie feinfühligen arrangements in richtung geschmeidigkeit verschoben (beggar). die epischen songs mit Überlänge aber sind aus dawsons song-universum natürlich auch auf peasant nicht wegzudenken (masseuse). es wäre falsch zu behaupten, dawson hätte an schrulligkeit und scharfen kanten verloren. die wird man ihm nie austreiben können. peasant jedoch wird eine neue welle von dawson-anhängern mit sich bringen. er ist und bleibt ein britischer troubadour, wie es ihn nur einmal gibt.
