played by reboot, joris voorn, martinez, christian prommer, lee curtiss, sis, ... ever wondered what a butch diana ross on acid might sound like…? well youre about to find out… but before we get to overside, youve gotta enjoy and marvel at the sheer brilliance of the rest of jairo catelos latest offering on silicone souls darkroom dubs. our man from the asturias has rapidly built a strong and loyal following thanks to his beautifully crafted house cuts. jairos ability to bring together dubby textures and an innate soul within his productions is most enviable. his warehouse ep features three original new cuts backed by a rework from french house guru, phil weeks. lead cut soul school is something of a two-headed beast. whilst its kick-drum and dramatic synth stabs drive it with a serious dose of funk, it still retains a warm-summer soul that will keep the fillies moving. then, as a little sax break goes to our head, were flipped and the beats and bass get sleazy and old school. killer! mr. weeks beings some 90s flow to the table on his remix. working the guitar licks and bassline hard but always retaining a smooth as silk groove, phil shows just how to keep the dancefloor cookin. a beautiful house record from one of the very best. >yairos 303 acid< mix of overside finds us getting upside down and inside out. serious funk with an injection of some classic acid styles. final cut >the shake< sees jairo roll out drums. a lazy bassline is swarmed by ripping snares and a host of percussive sites and sounds. a perfect close to a pretty much perfect ep.

look sharp. kap bambino is a stampeding punk-rock juggernaut,and its hurtling this way. unlike most assaults of lawless rock n roll ideals, its not powered by guitars,or rather any live instruments whatsoever. the empowering eruption of frenzied discordance, space invader sucker-punch beats and caterwauling incantations conjured by the bordeaux duo, caroline martial and orion bouvier, is the result of harnessing the unruly spirit of bands like suicide and nirvana, then feeding it through a tangled web of samplers, synthesisers and software modules. the result is a more immediate, more kinetic and more inspiring show than your likely to witness from any of the baggy-shorted buffoons 2009 tries to throw up as punk-rockers.

ah yes, the carter bros. the mysterious duo from down under who put out a 12 inch on rush hour recently. wild cats ep holds four cuts that represent the carter bros sound, which can only be described as an eclectic brew of dancefloor detonators. it starts out with >i didnt need you<, a devastating grower that gets into your brain and burrows a special little place for itself. forever. then, the title track, which is strictly deep, pumping and emotional vibes for the discotheque. on the flipside, >run< is skank-tastic business. already charted by the likes of radio slave and others. the ep ends with >no caller i.d.<, a track that shows the depth of talent these two brothers(?) really have. limited to 300 copies. vinyl only release

pulp disco & the outcasts - overnight to dusseldorf is the latest release on ashley beedles out hear audio imprint. put together in it s original sublime whoozy electronic form it was passed to mr. beedle who then took up the space baton with his studio partner darren morris to create the kommune mixes. with a nod to can, talking heads and some raucous psychedelic punk funk, the boys have whipped up two dancefloor killers that compliment the kosmische referencing original.

after years of seeming decline, its refreshing to see the cultural melting pot that is new york firmly back on the global electronic music scene but with the city’s crime rates dropping and a more liberal attitude to partying abounding once more, an invigorated crew of djs and producers are now cropping up with increasing regularity. one such individual is italian-cum-new yorker antonio piacquadio. the ep is nonetheless sure to draw attention as a result of its remixes: both of which arrive courtesy from big-hitters from the techno/house hybrid.the first of these - from cecille mainstay butch – is typical of the sankeys resident, as he jettisons practically all else in favour of a catchy bassline and a smattering of luscious piano keys. in another coup for the label, radio slave then adds his own touch, performing a typical manoeuvre by taking no prisoners via his remix - a stirring concoction of subtle, ominous bells and sporadic, tight grooves.

audiojack return to 2020 after a year or so setting up their imprint gruuv. the new single >get serious< shows the duo not only mature as artists but also develop and hone their sound to new house themed productions. the title track is state of the art bounce in a box with a killer vocal hook, >let the rhythm take you<, meandering around sweet insistent stabs. its been smashing terraces, rooftops and discotheques all summer and now its finally available for our select dj friends to carry on the vibes through autumn. >polka dot dress< comes spotted with a sound originally created on the classic korg m1 synth and used by mk to devastating effect in the 90s. audiojack have then sprinkled their magic dust on it and added sweeping detroit techno strings, tight drums and healthy amounts of bottom end rumble. as we look forward it is important to know your roots and audiojack show they know their house history by covering the all time classic by the backroom - definition of a track. no samples at all were used and the guys worked out and replayed all the synth parts before adding new vocals from kevin knapp. by beefing up the original we hope a new generation of djs and clubbers bust out this amazing track. it deserves to be heard again and is produced and primed for todays dancefloors.

the eraly years of a decade are good times for exploration, just like in 1993 when we (alex & sasa) first started working together. we rented a huge loft space on ave b & 2nd st. in the east village in manhattan. the winter was tough, we had 16 snow storms and due to a landlord who hated everybody, we had our heating turned off except for a few hours in the morning, sometimes not even that... the only way to stay warm was to wear hats, gloves and scarves the whole winter... but that was fine because nightlife was a lot of fun. there was a good club/party every night. right below where we lived was one of the best after hour clubs called >save the robots<. but one of my favourite parties was >sugar babes< which was at the cbgbs gallery space right next door to cbgbs, every monday night. the dj used to sample parts of the records he was mixing and then just play the loop of the sample and alongside was a drummer playing to it. it was really inspiring. so we wanted to go back to this idea of sound assembly and create a new series for us to work with called >skematics< its like a diagram or manual to help understand the interconnections between the odd parts we find and assemble, an imaginary manual for a new decade that has not been musically defined yet

this is a great track holgi gave to emerson during the last weeks and it truly is a hell of a tune, one of those you just hear once and remember ever since from then on,…. it has this warm crisp feel, nice chords and a monstrous groove that makes the good looking girls wanna go crazy. i am sure you want to have that one in your crate just in case,… the sound is slightly more referring to the minimal/tech house beginnings of the micro.fon labelsound but still it perfectely adds up to the labels profile. included are two high class remixes by tim xavier

kill the pain: epic is the only way to describe the extended intro of kill the pain, featuring acoustic guitar and an earnest male vocal. then, just before two minutes in, things quickly take a nasty turn as choppy breaks splinter into pieces and the bassline reboots the texas chainsaw massacre. an aggressive, genre bending, sure fire floor smasher.
letting go: teaming up with kryteria for the flip, a eurphoric, trancey intro leads into a chainsaw reece, setting the scene for the chaotic chiaroscuro to come: beyond the drop sweeping synths and ethereal vocal snippets somehow successfully coalesce with heavily edited breaks and sawing bass, creating a kind of beautiful violence. subsequently, side effects of letting go include spontaneous eruptions of feet on the floor and hands in the air.

day one: high-octane bounce madness made all the more crazy with the cheeky audio strips and meshed up manic laughter. enjoy the depth of the groove and the mayhem!

these fellas hailed from leeds, and apparently have some sort of morbid love affair with balconies... mystery meat is on a tear these days and continuing to up the ante bring you a trio of terrific reworks from leeds finest, the dashing duo that is death on the balcony. paul and mark have been on the forefront of the deep house and disco world for a number of years now following a killer contribution to soul claps 2nd free.p >cruel banana< not to mention their >adventures of soul clap podcast - downtown:uptown<. fast forward to 2011 and the boys are on all of the top labels of the moment, including culprit, silver network, airdrop and their own magicbag. its no wonder then that their contribution to the fabled mystery meat imprint is anything short of stellar. >get out of your world< is an electro boogie monster, already melting down dancefloors from london to los angeles, berlin to beijing and back again theres just no denying that bassline! >what is dub< takes things more melodic and dare we say deeper with a hypnotic vocal that you just cant get out of your head. rounding death on the balconys ep out is >if you want my champagne<, a bouncy house re-work of one of the 80s finest voices. bounce to this!

another grandios 12 inch from the untz untz records guys with a top notch remix package. this time its a hometown affair with all artist being from bergen, norway. so what is this then? is it house? is it prog? is it (dear we say it) almost trance? honestly we are not sure, but we know that it is balancing that magical thin red line somewhere in-between there and that it sounds powerful.

if ever there were more committed and fervent neighbours within the house and disco community today, then house of disco records would be flying the flag loud and high in the front garden for all to see.

synapsis records is back with a excursion into deep house with a new record from hakim murphy called moonbeam express ep. in this presentation there are three tracks that explore the deeper side of murphys subconscious in which he describes this vinyl sound as an express trip to the moon through cosmic textures, deep grooves, and subliminal funk. moonbeam express egins the journey of soft pads that beam you up to a nice bass sound, strings, and moving percussion. weep has deep pads that begin the piece as a melody, then strings, and bass soon follow to open up moods of deepness. flirt is an uptempo joint that begins with a smooth synth then proceeds into a piano riff that sneaks up on you and teases your eardrums. yeah taking it deep.

a true product of torontos thrillingly cosmopolitan grooving pot, this chinese-italian duo is quickly earning a rep for crafting highly effective acid tracks with just a hint of banger. they initially earned notice with their first ep, >vaporizer<, on this is music, before making fans out of some big names with these tracks, with brodinski championing >body acid< and forcing turbos a&r vibetrust to perk up their unbelievably jaded ears.
if you arent sold on the ontario-buzz, then maybe you will pay attention to two awesome remixes by the bombest bulgarian, kink. the deep mix is a lush, throbbing body-rub, and the acid version is a highlight-reel of peak time mayhem, already caned and charted by erol alkan and tiga. if nothing else, >body acid< is a vital reminder that acid goes into your body. thats just the way it works.

fright returns after a long absence in which we sought refuge in hades during the hail storm of gothic hysteria that passed over earths minions. some may remember us from the breakthrough debut release from gatekeeper or the unholy italo-techno alliance we shared with antoni maiovvi. now finally, we return, this halloween, with our most ominous mission yet. naum gabo aka glasgows jonnie wilkes (1/2 of optimo) and james savage started their illustrious career with a trio of releases as naum for kompakts speicher series then have most recently gone on to release music on dissident, thisisnotanexit, endless flight, world unknown and most recently optimo music. created and recorded between 2010 and 2011 in their hottrax studio, naum gabo have come up with > the crystal line<, > galena< and > dmitris darkness<. specifically delivered in mind for fright, they keep true to the labels mission of releasing music for unseen films with 3 mid-tempo and certainly melancholic gems that also maintain an unmistakable ng groove for the stranger dancefloors we know and love. an absolute highlight, > the crystal line< is dedicated to the late, great kurt hauenstein aka supermax. superbly cut loud at 45rpm, this epic tribute is what vinyl addicts dream of hearing.

first up we have flora purim getting ashley beedles extended edit treatment with the sublime latin-jazz funker >angels<. great vocal hooks, guitar licks and a jazz-funk groove with added disco overtones to boot! if the mizell brothers had been born in rio then this is what it probably would have sounded like.
on the flip we have brian protheroes >pinball<. a lost psychedelic pop classic which got to number 22 in the charts in 1974. a staunch ashley beedle fave with his tripped reworking doing exactly what i says on the tin. dubbed, stretched, spaced out and arranged to perfection. great!

heavily steeped in classic detroit influences, but fused perfectly with contemporary urban and disco tinges that melt into a single and unique sound...the mysterious klic announces his arrival on the house scene with a highly impressive debut on home taping.

the third release on the world unknown label is a very meaty affair that coincides with the second birthday of the club night in brixton. on side w timothy j. fairplay fuses ancient egypt with late 80s belgium and drops it slap bang into the near future with the monolithic techno beast that is >cleopatra loves the acid<. its already been played in discos and on the bbc by andrew weatherall, for whom tim handles engineering and co-production duties in his day job, and is set to become a pounding anthem on the more adventurous dancefloors over the coming months. side u is a more throbbing psychedelic affair. kalidasa is the production alter-ego of tim rivers who runs the always excellent theacidhouse.com website. it<s exactly the kind of heavyweight midtempo tune that causes sweaty pandemonium at world unknown. if the word balearic still meant now what it did to from 87-92 then thats precisely what youd call this, most likely with the prefix >heavy<. but it doesnt so you cant, or can you?

while yacht refers to >dystopia (the earth is on fire)< as a post-apocalyptic fight song and a cautionary tale, the tracks chant-along melodies and unsparing synths nudge listeners far closer to dance than despair. from the sound of things, that reaction will likely also be elicited by two new remixes of the portland duos song, from their 2011 long player shangri-la. legendary production duo justin strauss and bryan mette, aka whatever/whatever, completely rework the sound of >dystopia< on their version, reorienting it with heavy doses of funk. while the original rides atop buzzing synths, the whatever/whatever remix adds a thick bassline and shimmery keyboards that leap out like solar flares. on the flipside, uk-based emperor machine starts their dystopia remix with a dubby feel – every vocal echoing endlessly – and then u-turns into wholly a updated, yet classic, disco sound. the rhythms are sultry, slinking behind a deep, repeated, synthline, its a recipe for an unexpectedly smooth, subtly hypnotic, and utterly danceworthy song.

hdr002 takes us straight to 90s house territory with four new edits from nycs marcos cabral. the a-side opens with >sym phon<, an anthemic filtered piano house jam that opens up wide and swallows all in its path. a2 gives us >better think again< with sticatto chords and twinkling keys in a jersey-esque house sound. the b-side hits with >in the sea<, starting off with a giant slow tribal beat and then morphs into a psychedelically swirling synth workout. b2 wraps things up with >get get get< turning our ears to old school chicago house. rolands tr-707 lays the percussion down while the chant of >get in the groove< repeats into infinity

the kdms is a underground-supergroup. englands no.1 indie - disco diva kathy diamond (permanent vacation, eskimo, moodmusic) and maximilian skiba from londons rekids label (solo album coming up soon) teamed up to do a real band. the result are some very crisp, catchy but raw house tunes with a great pop appeal. kathys unique voice that combines soul-funk background with a very own timbre meets max’s way of contemporary electronic production. he does it like prince: playing all the guitars, drums, bass and keyboards alone. and then reworking it on the computer. check the amazing morgan geist remix!

jax is a collective of like-minded artists, musicians, thinkers movers and booty-shakers, who believe there is more to records than just some grooves engraved into black plastic. their vision is to treat each release as a presentation in itself, complete with original and individual artwork, features and an exhibition. each production will feature artwork shown in a cube of about 8 cubic meters. every record-released will be strictly-limited to 500 copies, which includes a poster referencing the piece made by the artist! daniel roth was born in seeheim near frankfurt. he started to experiment with different styles of electronical music using an akai mpc and a juno 106 in 1997. by this time he wasnt thinking of making music his profession. he then started his studies in skulpturing at the städel in frankfurt. after having finished art school he took up producing music again, influenced by his art and contemporary dance music styles. with his jax release he showcases his ability to combine different elements with his unique touch.

oxford/london/leeds based newcomer graphics is responsible for the first release on the long gestated granholme label. brian eno was once quoted as >not wanting to contribute to the glut of cds< in the world. granholmes ambitions as a label are modest, but if we can do anything to detract from the glut of painfully beige electronic music available in 2011 then that will be considered a small victory.

a debut release for both band and label, parisian duo paradis bring two eloquently produced tracks to beats in space in the form of the >parfait tirage / la ballade de jim< 12 inch (bis001). admirers from afar of dj tim sweeneys weekly on air institution of 12 years (from which the label takes its name), paradis submitted demos hoping they might hack it for some play time. reared on classical and jazz, turned young hip hop rebels, turned teen club crawlers, and then university machine tinkerers, simon meny & pierre rousseau grew out of genre jumping while young enough to stay ahead and settle into music making centered around melody and emotion.

mainakustik presents paride saraceni, from italy who is living in london right now. he delivered two melodic techno biggies for the floors. the title track >walking with the moon< is a warm melodic tune perfect for the late hours. >dreaming tomorrow< is more danceable and floor orientated. remixes comes from no one less then legowelt. his remix sounds like a space journey. the other remix is from our good friend daniel mehlhart who has just started his own label. first pressing comes in transparent orange coloured limited vinyl!

when a deservedly hyped label like no.19 music states that its biggest release is about to drop then a certain amount of attention is due and thats exactly what the labels 19th release, tanner ross >b side ep<, deserves. despite having clocked up an impeccable discography that takes in collaborations with soul clap (as sect) and sergio ross as well as output for freerange, airdrop, culprit and dirty bird this is ross first solo release under his given name and is causing a enormous buzz via consistent plays from label-boss jonny white (art department), crosstown rebels main-man damian lazarus and a few close friends of the family. adding to the two stunning originals, b side and 4 u ft. flo night , and pushing things into unmissable territory is a brilliant remix of the latter from crosstown rebels / wolf & lamb family member, deniz kurtel.

after his recent excursion remixing groove armada, morton sorenson returns to the fold with a stunning little release for tirk titled >the burn down ep.< for those that dont know, morten is in his early twenties and hails from a small fishing village in rural norway. his dad probably spent many years in new york and the records that he brought back encouraged a love of american house and disco on the impressionable morton. >burn down (original)’ is an exercise in uplifting, stripped back house music. less is more here, the vibe stays rich and never loosens its grip. the rhythms skip on top of the beat and the vocal interludes make for a real vivid experience. the lpz remix on the other hand sits back a bit, the rhythms are solidly swung and the vocal appears more affluently in the mix. it feels smooth and definitely cool. to top the package, were served up some chi-town flavours with <owe that 2 u.< sustained strings and a slo-mo shuffle builds, then peels away to a hollowed out organ breakdown. a hauntingly affected vocal and clever edits ensue then drop back into the beat, articulated now by the clack of a tough stacatto synth. in our eyes, a brilliant end to a fantastic package

the success of >twist< released with yuksek aka peter in peter and the magician, which was heard in the playlists of some of the best djs around the world, has contributed to increase the magician reputation among djs and electro lovers…
the only thing we could hear from him until then were his magic tapes, available on soundcloud with no tracklisting so as to keep the mystery around them… there again, the concept has created so much excitement among music aficionados that the magician has already released thirteen of them!
>i dont know what to do< is a pure dance jewel enlightened by jeppes voice! as for the club mix and the remixes by fabian and plastic plates, they are definitely more electronic and punchy and will be all perfect for the club times!

perc traxs transatlantic duo donor / truss return to the label for the follow-up to their >indifference ep< which was released at the start of 2010. since then they have recorded and remixed for a number of high-profile labels, most notably stroboscopic artefacts to which donor contributed an ep to the labels renowned monad series whilst truss appeared on the remix ep the preceded lucys debut album.

1 track each from area, hakim murphy, and murdoc, + bonus remix. the 2 on a lean more toward the stoner side, the b is all murdoc focusing more on the beats. the past year has seen area dropping solo records for francois ks wave music, anton zaps ethereal sound, and brendon moellers steadfast recordings. with songs described as >guaranteed to create a special mood in a club< (resident advisor) and >warm, shoegaze-dreamy but floor-ready pop< (little white earbuds), areas heady productions tread the line between functionality and abstraction. hakim is a producer/dj from the chicagoland area whos musical style ranges from house to techno. hakims journey begin as a dancer in chicago as a lot of his musical influences come from larry heard, robert armani, dance mania, relief, and cajual records. as a chicago footwork dancer, hakim gradually became inspired by the music and began playing records in 1996. since then hakim has ventured into production work and eventually founded two records labels in 2008: machining dreams, and synapsis records with avondale music society. hakims discography includes releases on metamorphic, planet detroit, and stolen kisses. murdoc is a dj/producer and current member of the condiment dj-collective, hosting events featuring the likes of acid circus, sammy dee (perlon), and mark henning.

kris wadsworth is an integral part of detroits new wave, and with its time he wears his citys heart on his sleeve, delving into the electronic music legacy of his home town and showcasing the range of his own talent. the epic 10-minute title track >its time< is secret journey through the citys pulsing underground. it begins with a primal techno kick that rings out from afar, distorted by distance and brimming with a sense of anticipation. a gravelly male voice demands to know what time it is, declaring that >its time for that dirty shit, that dope shit, that detroit shit<, and the beat then kicks in, gritty and purposeful. the track then does a surprising about-face, abandoning the fist-pumping techno for just high hats and vocals, and transforming into a new phase that nods to detroits other great legacy: electro. grimy electro breaks and wiry melodies are spun before evolving again into deep house, with a see-saw duet of pads, and double-time hand claps. kris own >move dat ass remix< of his track >det sound< takes the dubby 2010 original, and reworks it as a ferocious bass and drums workout with dizzy vocal arrangements and blasting sirens.

>cut me down< was the bi-product of this years ims conference in ibiza where sasha was assumed the honour of creating the 2011 ims anthem in conjunction with burn studios. the track was then handed over to layo & bushwacka for the masterclass in remixing. their stunning mix appears on the flipside with full l&b signature riffs, basslines and bouncy drums.

noidoi are back on track! the romanian invaders team up with their second ep on our beloved sublabel love letters from oslo. after their last ep dupa joi on oslo, which was released just a short while ago, the masters of puristic funk are back again. inainte inapoi iar starts with a randomized and funky off-beat snare drum, which morphs into a deep and massive bass break anthem. then, the simple but classy melody pads lead into a typical romanian house groover, which is distinguished by his complex drum patterns and edgy percussion. the second track peloc, made of a playful oldschool melody, reminds on the good old times back in the days. a solid tool for unique moments, which can be big, if used in the right order!

uk producer and bass culture regular, mr. g makes a welcome return to the label with his latest three track bonanza, >gs spot!< ep. with last years >extended pain< ep still causing damage, mr. g tweaks and teases our senses once again as he electrifies with both sides of the vinyl release. the vinyl only title track, >gs spot!< sees him stamp his authority from the get-go. its big-room reach is unquestionable as it builds from its opening bongos and hi-hats into an intense number, driven by its demanding horn stabs. having ramped things up from the off, on the flip >new dayz< brings us back down, if only for a moment. like an alter-ego to our a side, >new dayz< opens with piercing bongos. its soothing synth laps like the tide as it builds to crescendo and then soothed by its bassline.

raoul records is very happy to welcome liviu groza for the fourth release of the label. after his china charm ep on cityfox just before this summer, he is back with 3 tracks that fit perfectly with the sound of the label. it certainly has something to do with house and techno, but livius personal touch is quickly modifying our expectations, for the pleasure of our ears. there is an authentic energy in livius work and the a-side track >no love< is a perfect example of that. what starts with a typical filtered techno loop is suddenly brought to another level with a huge melodic bass line and then with two chords that enlight the track with a certain melancholy. the b-side starts with another killer bass line. >the manimals< bass line is a snake that enrolls its body around every other element: a great house groove and an hypnotic piano. liviu is a snake charmer! the 3rd track >mean fine< seems to be the perfect b2 track. what sounds rather quiet and reduced when you first listen to it, turns itself into an efficient old school dj tool with such groovy hats and hypontic vocals once played on a proper sound system!

its fitting that this summer season sees months of culprit planning and scheming come to fruition. a relationship that began almost four years ago, between culprits la crew and parisian native shonky, has finally been realized, with the mercurial frenchman stepping up for his first full culprit release, >oasis<. shonky first ventured to la when droog hosted him on the now defunct terrace space at avalon in late 2007. since then he and culprit founders droog have become close cohorts, sharing the same musical wavelength, having playied together half-a-dozen times at locations ranging from miami, barcelona and los angeles. shonky was finally introduced on the label earlier this year, when he and dyed soundorom collaborated on a remix of lee foss >your turn girl<
