a industrial callous, caustic and fervently cruel ep. contort yourself has once again gathered the best and boldest from past and present for its fourth ep. to begin with we have the grimacing visage of volition immanent, an intense live act made up of parrish smith and mark van de maat (knekelhuis). behind rawkish distortion, splintered beats and acrid bars screams a boiled anger, a track spitting on the divides of punk and electronics. nastiness is taken up a notch as noise ne er-do-wells zombies under stress take over. static is bent and doubled across thick chords and collapsed clap in the 1986 -maan zal zijn before the raw and raging battery of in onze tijd. l.i.e.s. regular svengalisghost grapples with maan zal zijn, channelling the originals rage into a mechanical monster. the 12inch is bookended with bite as mark forshaw (tabernacle/berceuse heroique) closes with the tortured and torrential thump of submission.

der mitgründer des labels atomnation, pascal terstappen, präsentiert mit -for- den bereits vierten longplayer seines projekts applescal - und erfindet dessen sound gleich mal neu. hörte man sich terstappens output aus den vergangenen jahren an, so lernte man seine sorgfältig gebauten tracks und remixes schätzen, in denen verspielte percussion-strukturen und außerweltliche melodien in kompositionen mit einfließen, die sich irgendwo zwischen sofa und dancefloor bewegen. applescals voriges album -dreaming in key- bekam großes presselob und wurde von djs wie gilles peterson, laurent garnier und daniel avery gespielt. -for- klingt ähnlich unbekümmert, dennoch wagt sich der niederländer hier in tiefere gefilde. tracks wie -like you do-, -matter- und -overseas- tragen dieselbe handschrift träumerischer synthesizers und prickelnder grooves, ansonsten klingt die soundpalette reifer und selbstbewusster.

for those that knoe is proud to present some of the freshest and timeless sounds the uk has to offer from numonika, sounding as good now as they would have done when recorded ten years ago. three tracks from the original demo cd have been selected, compiled, re-mastered and pressed by for those that knoe onto a special 12- for collectors and club djs alike. in true knoe fashion, release 4/1 is a compilation of tracks unearthed from a cd squirrelled away for a decade in a dusty loft. the cd in question was loaded with unreleased and untitled material from the owners of and producers for two of the uks rarest and sought after tech house labels rinsed by djs such as craig richards in the late 90s.

a1 - raining: calma opens up with a hypnotic rumbler! snaps and claps take us in, before the eery synths and floating pointesque keys punctuate and a squelqchy, distorted bassline rumbles beneath the surface, making you feel like you re at a party in a haunted church. a2 - cuattro: calma takes us on a tropical trip, with an infectious sun-filled groove looping over incessant layers of beat patterns that weave in and out of the track teasingly, driven along by a banging bass drum to keep you nodding. b1 - mr amarè: calma shows his love for acid house with an epic, ever-evolving influenced roller that blends together nearly every percussion instrument you could ever dream of. crashes, symbals and a cowbell drive it along, underscored by a seriously funky bass line and mysterious vocal sample that emerges halfway through tying it all together nicely. b2 - cuattro /juju & jordash rmx): juju and jordash take over the remix duties for calma. the dutch duo add their deep trademark sunshine inflected beats and sturdy basslines to the already tropical loop, while infusing swirling synths and strings that lead us in and out of the breakdowns and on to a late night, chilled-out dance floor.

almost exactly three years after nr&, a project uniting &me�s and rampa�s production with the voice of new york disco-house-siren nomi, dropped their debut ep, we finally can announce a new chapter in this ongoing transatlantic menage. this very �spoken for� ep is comprised of two new tracks, that again fuse songwriting with floor-demands and showcase the same crackling and pulse quickening passion that instantly has become nr&�s trademark. so here�s the evidence � a long distance relationship is not necessarily doomed to get boring after a while. �taste like� on a might be conceived as the club-affair of those two new joints. a tune indulging in self-control, extending the pre- eruptive moment of excitement to track length. there is nomi�s unmistakeable sexed up oration, flanked by an affirmative thunderstorm of claps, then a bass heavy bridge, overflowing into a noise brushed finale. altogether a tasty flavour carrier for an effective floor heating. �spoken for� is not only the title track, but also the hymn coming out of the flipside ambush. there is no kick necessary to underpin what nomi�s charismatic croon is laying down. therefore a wise choice to let the arrangement of interspersed field recordings, percussive details and piano- and synth-decoration exercise in unobtrusiveness. safe to say, this tune will refine many future peaktimes anyway.

theres a reason kai alces name consistently comes up when the topic is exceptional house music. the ndatl label boss remix of the dangerfeel newbies * what am i here for* takes the soulful number to heights beyond the originals already heady groove. j piccola sings with a perspective thats like bopping through the city, skyscrapers above giving dimension to the groundwork so necessary for love and progression. his vocals match the pace of propelling keyboards by chris irvin and delvynw. saxophone by quinn mason adds an element that in alces distinctive hands becomes a part of all things classic house: deep, melodic, and ultimately, free. thats particularly true of the kzr�s late night mix. it harkens the wee hours with a shuffle, leading keys and pinpoint bass. the piano instrumental puts keys front and center, with a few jazzy chords that recall the hippest, dopest brunch you�ve ever attended. the entire project is very much atlanta-grown, representing its strong, interconnected music and art scene. all the key contributors are based in the city, from alce and the dangerfeel newbies, to acclaimed visual artist radcliffe bailey, who created the album art, and tastemaking graphic artist steve deniro, who designed the album layout. after small promo run in japan the gem gets a full worldwide release with alternate mixes and kai alcés bonus distinctive remix of * swingin with the new jack* previously unavailable
