paper recordings continue their journey back to plastic with another vinyl release once again proving why they remain one of uks best loved labels. jamie l is a mysterious figure of undisclosed origin and history who fits in to the moodymann / theo parrish mold of heavy future disco, which his new production >(what we saw) in the burg< nails. it is a heavy leftfield groove laid over broken house beats with a filtered bass, samples and leftfield vibe. the detroit pad creeps up to the break and filters in and out as the track works its way through for locked down dance floor business. next up, havana candy breaks out the analogue and takes things deeper and techier. with a rolling bass and tweaking acid line, it cuts to a rhodes before filtering down and riding back to the heads down groove. cottam steps up for paper for the first time and demonstrates what all the fuss is about with a very special mix. clocking in at 9.41 it is deep, tough soulful house that crosses the 4/4 divide from techno to disco and deep house to soul.

nice price deal !!! nice price deal !!! slams rtm project starts with a bang! the pimp convention is packed with the swinging percussion that slam do so well. winding around this rhythm is a hypnotic hook and swaggering vocal sample that adds a delicate touch of uneasy tension, while chest thumping sub bass underpins all. slam are back in the house. the sides collide slows the tempo and darkens the groove. an underlying disco influence can be heard in the track, but is brought back down to the undergrowth by a super heavy bassline and creepy, pitched vocal.

this new ep on m_rec ltd., which sees label owner max_m collaborate with zooloft co-owner obtane, certainly fits the musical profile people have come to associate with italian underground productions. both with an incredibly strong background, the two producers celebrate their love for techno by delivering two tracks where contemporary techno experimentation and anthemic solutions meet.

limited to 250 copies !!! on august 4th 2011, the sony music warehouse in enfield, north london was attacked during riots and looting that affected many areas of the capitol over the course of a week. the warehouse burned down completely, taking with it millions of cds and vinyl stored by the distributor pias including the back catalogue of freerange. the blow was devastating for many labels, with the logistics of manufacture and minimal insurance payouts meaning that recreating the entirety of their old stock was completely impossible and many releases have been lost forever as a result.

this is the first of two 12inchs accompanying the jazzanova remix compilation upside down. the remix by dima studitsky on the b-side is a bonus not to be found on the compilation!

>the real me< is a collaboration between deeper shades recordings artists salvatore agrosi (coming of the very successful spirit ep) from italy and florida based vocalist dennis baker (featured on the >hypnotize you< releases). the four remixes selected for this 12 inch are ranging from a driving and bass heavy peak time dub by label head lars behrenroth (which btw. has been one of lars secret weapons and created a lot of anticipation for this release) via salvatores stripped down interpretation as his alter ego toto to an emotionally charged atmospheric builder by marco fracasso.

jay west from argentina has been releasing quality deep house (the real sort that is) for the past decade, last years smile ep on bebr got some serious playlist and chart action from everybody who knows their shit, and were please to welcome him to the moodmusic family. the ep starts with blame the music, the sort of feel-good house music we used to get loads of in the early to mid 90s from the big apple. swinging beats, almost disco bass and a sunshine filled vocal are the ingredients for a tune, and jay has delivered one. this will probably not be belted by the kids house community, but real heads knows what to do with this weapon. down continues the journey with victor simonelli style keys and a bouncy bassline, making place for the low-slung in & out tune which have some serious west coast mushroom influences. we love it! to end the ep the catchy little mean machine finally brings the smile to your face.
