at once foreign and familiar, desert sound colony brilliantly scores a nostalgic journey through the proverbial looking glass. the plaintiff vibe of the way i began envelopes the listener in warm guitar licks and hushed vocals, transporting them to a time when innocence and insecurity gave way to transcendence. the road takes a turn with fire egg, a classic stomper that drives introspection with looping guitar melody and bouncy bass. and before we return to size, iris carries us further inward with scattered claps and a skipping kick, before releasing us into a deep and chugging, eyes-wide-shut, euphoric roller.

in the heart of madrid the el barrio djs have been one of the biggest gamm supporters over the last 10 years or so, spinning our gems in various jazz clubs in the spanish capitol. we are now overly excited to have them onboard gamm with an absolutely stunning 3 track ep. the el barrio guys really know how to twist and rework various tunes into one song and the art of editing have never sounded better than now.

defaultbox strikes again. the black cube ep by patrick brøsin is armed with four substantial techno tracks including one remix. this time we could inspire tresor resident krenzlin and diego hostettler the head of belief system records. the collaboration between them is probably unknown for most of the people, but releases on nachtstrom schallplatten or affin ltd by krenzlin as well as on kanzleramt or u-turn by diego hostettler speak for themselves.

the original, with a well-constructed bassline incorporates a warm up melody that begins to set the tone for the night ahead. each layer is distinct as the track begins to build itself right to its crescendo when each of those individual layers collectively come together. you can distinctly hear the 80 s like synths that are cleverly inserted into the track which are highlighted by the female vocal samples. the grittier elements add a touch of darkness and instantly transport you to a warehouse club with an intimate atmosphere. the remix, done by the widely loved tech-house duo pleasurekraft jack up the tempo a notch, and add a bouncy groove to the track. where the original brought out a darker side, the remix is more upbeat and settles in well for a peak hour set. bringing that crisp bassline to the fore, and tuning out the melodies to make them a tad subtler it showcases a more tech-house version of the original. there s an added element a slightly more haunted vibe which is coupled together with those gritty and harder elements. all i can conclude is what a tech-house bomb this is from the highly talented pleasurekraft. they always manage to bring something new and unique to every single track they ve ever remixed which truly shows their remarkability as consistently good producers.

ptakis tunes soar wide-winged like their translation (bird) infers. with a breakout single under their belts on the very polish cut-outs krystina and a swirling vapour of mystique surrounding them, the duo present their first full 12 inch of original material which is both contemplative and transfixing. the kalina ep on young adults recordings clocks in around 25 minutes, but the ground it covers cannot be clearly conveyed through conventional cartography - a birdseye view of jagged cliffs, coastal haze, rolling bagpipe hillsides, and smoke signals.

the man behind the end of level boss label, cyclonix, delivers 2 club tracks just the way we like them. already tried and tested in the clubs by our man cottam, who fell in love with the tracks on first listen. they demand to be played in the early hours of the morning in dark basements from nottingham to leyland and beyond. label boss cottam takes over the b side with a leisurely walk back from the supermarket taking the scenic route for no apparent reason.

kenny dope and louie vegas nu-yorican soul project was responsible for some of the biggest underground club hits to come out of nyc throughout the 1990s, their collective vast musical knowledge, impeccable taste and legendary status as djs in the city only helped elevate them to the highest level.

rothmans is back with there 7th release and this time they pay homage to german playmaker paul breitner . the ep comes in the form of rising manchester producer ste spandex , fresh off the back of his remix of coyote our on rothmans 6 , and has been recorded 100% live on analogue eqiupment , not a computer in sight !!!! . the ep finds rothmans taking a slightly different and more up tempo vibe to it but still retains the psychadelic nu disco feel of many of there earlier releases. spandex has had a little help from his friends in the form of kickin pigeon and metrodome , both fresh out of the manchester underground. this is rothmans first all manchester release and sees them really cemeting the label in there surroundings.

make no mistake, for vault series 15 the doors have been flung open to welcome a new act to the fold. theres very little known about mistake made. no records or releases exist to date, but they have impressed vault chief subjected enough to have them join the sequestered berlin-based crew. and in sublime compliance with the vault series creed, this debut effort from the shadowy outfit presents yet another set of functioning and frill-free dancefloor material, complete with a rusted-through hue of its own. on the a-side >wrist< jumps straight in with marching intent, complete with fidgety hat work thats both anxious and infectious. then on the flip, >ricochet< opens with field recordings tossed into a stormy concoction of ticks, hats and fuzzy atmospherics, teamed up here with one of those basslines that will keep you glued to the floor. >indec< then concludes in signature vault series style an ominous, growling number rattled with alarm bells and screeching, clangorous detail. its one of those monstrous slow-burners that leaves you wounded yet longing for more. all in all, a rounded first release from a new techno tour de force. this isnt the last we will be hearing from mistake made.

with two years of solid output behind them, sheffield label cpu has established itself as a binary science lab that delivers precision electro time after time. this continues with the welcome return of cygnus - tesseractar is the electro world killer he has always threatened to make. following on from his 2012 album newmark phase (the inaugural release on cpu), cygnus presents a collection of sci-fi / video game influenced soundscapes and melodies with a healthy dose of the roland tr-808.heads up drexciyan researchers.

a kaleidoscope of rainbow textures and rhythms disperse into the exotic soundscape of *tropical*. electronics, real folk instruments and noise-making objects feature here generously on this six-track concept album, blending together a sonic palette influenced by a rich variety of music, people and places. the material was initially written over the course of a few months during what seneviratne called *a beautiful burst of inspiration*. working with veteran producer asier leatxe ibanez d opakoa (electric lady studios, nyc), seneviratne then set about disassembling all the songs and re-working them meticulously, enriching the sounds by adding a huge range of live instrumentation, before processing the audio through vintage analogue studio gear. the vinyl lp comes with download code.

after a best-selling debut record, low budget family - an independent moscow-based record label run by the crew behind the legendary shop&bar denis simachev formation return, and how! king solomons mines from simple symmetry is quite a classic in the making - a deceptively simple workout that reminds of mid 80s boyd jarvis jams, but shot through with 21st century twists and turns, that amplify those tough drum machines, anthemic afro elements, chants and marimba riffing. add a truly dynamic arrangement and you have a dancefloor dynamite! it is disco royalty on the remix tip as soft rocks & brennan green step up. as expected, given the incredible ingredients, the two of them shine. soft rocks set up a classic euro flavoured afro-trance workout, utilising the parts against a far more electronic and unrelenting backdrop, building to a sweaty, strobe-lit finale. brennan green may be less than prolific these days, but he is dependable as ever here. working up a synth-soaked, prelude style dub, whose classic elements will work the floor from here to zanzibar…

berlin based cohorts ekkohaus and rufus (also part of tru west and nightdrivers) consummate their friendship with this four-track mission statement that deals in gutsy house music with a range of moods to suit every corner of the night. studer is a cheeky cut with jazzy key flurries and a fulsome bassline squelch, while pagan takes a tougher route into heavy delay feedback and pure rhythmic intensity. the end of an ear is a playful beast that takes off-key melodies and oddball noises and works them into a moody, heavy grooving context, while peace & reflection pushes the swing past the brink for a leftfield house jam that sounds liable to fall apart at any minute, in a good way of course.

nathan fake and wesley matsell are both producers best known for their releases on border community - nathan fake has been putting out psychedelic permutations on dance music since 2003 for the label, while matsell recently released the blissful total order of being ep for them earlier in 2014. cambria instruments is a new label venture from the pair, and for the first release they have teamed up for a split 12- of kaleidoscopic electronic sounds. nathan fake s contribution black drift starts things off, an initially inauspicious tripping beat gathering momentum and morphing into a far-out piece of fuzzy house underpinned by sunken low-end rumbles. it s the kind of brilliantly wide-eyed track we have come to expect from the producer. over on the flip, wesley matsell s bismuth is a more shadowy, moody affair, a tight techno rhythm holding things together while synths spin wildly. a highly expressive, lysergic trip and one of his finest productions to date. all in all, you couldn t hope for a stronger start from a new label.

love or hate his infamous twitter beefs there is no denying the legendary status of this house music vanguard. with 20+ years of djing and producing under his belt, this is dj sneak s first release on exploited: a collaboration with murk (oscar g and ralph falcon). back in 2003 murk released dark beat - a track that topped the billboard dance charts and became the underground smash of the year. a few months ago we asked sneak for a remix by mail but we didn t get a reply. after 4 months he suddenly popped up in our mailbox, apologized and said that he finally had some studio time. in the end he sent through some tracks to see if we like them. the rest is history as you re probably listening to one of the tracks right now. this quirky and funky house track (a 10 minute journey) is only the tip of the ice berg though.
