nothing lasts but nothing is lost – terence mckenna first solo ep by zanias after her keluar and linea aspera projects. this evolution culminates in a mature but radical project. radicalism has never relied completely on the means to deliver it. it also requires a relationship to society, to culture, at any given time. a solid background must be included in the formula as well. once certain stability is reached, there is no other way more than taking additional risks in order to produce new work of interest. finding different mechanisms to corrupt the methodical linearity that underlies artistic production. corrupting means finding possibilities to create an accident, possibilities to contradict, to prove anomalies within the frame of reference of that new thought is actually possible.

finally, justus köhncke is unveiling new tracks! his first release since justus köhncke & the wonderful frequency band (kompakt, 2013) is both daring and serious. five songs in german, interpretations of material by howard carpendale, juliane werding and nik p. plus english-into-german translations of two pop classics (twist in my sobriety by tanita tikaram, captain of her heart by double). this is not an ironic joke about seemingly stupid music or schlager: köhncke embraces these five compositions and turns them into his own. they transmutate into his very own vision of nu-german comps-soul‹ while retaining justus unique sound.

in 2007, renowned french producer julien jabre tracked down the american gospel singer phyliss mckoy joubert on myspace. joubert was already a cult figure for house aficionados thanks to -stand on the word-, a song she wrote and performed with her -celestial choir- in 1982 that became a staple of the club scene in new york. it resurfaced as a mysterious bootleg in 2000. julien, who d fallen in love with the song, was eager to remix and officialy rerelease it. when he finally reached out to phyliss, she explained the multitrack tape had been lost. the only thing to do was rerecording it-along with 10 other tracks. today on french label elias, julien and the joubert singers are releasing -stand on the word- in its original and unique 1982 version (mistakenly named after larry levan) and 3 brand new mixes including a fresh dimitri from paris remix. that s how the good lord works!
