after retiring from the jamaican police force arthur duke reid established his treasure isle liquor store and sound system in pink lane kingston and was crowned the undisputed king of sound and blues in 1956, 57 and in 58. the duke then moved into record production and after relocating the store to 33 bond street, he then built a recording studio on top of his new premises in 1966. according to the musicians and singers the wooden construction of the treasure isle recording studio gave the music a distinctive warmth and richness and with resident engineer byron baron/smithy smith at the controls, the sound of a bond street recording was immediately recognisable.

you might have heard of happa by now. hes the leeds native who first burst onto the electronic scene in 2013 with his blistering 12inch-single beat of the drum/ bring it back, the wildly precocious teenager (also known as samir alikhanizadeh) who won instant fans in the likes of mary anne hobbs, loefah and even four tet, the one who scorched a trail with his dark, bass-heavy sledgehammer house, which sounds quite unlike anything else out there right now.

a fifth edition of the mosaic split series arrives, pairing up productions from anne errez and clandestine, the production duo consisting of uk house/techno mainstays, neville watson and justin peace division drake. errez, of course, featured on the previous edition of this series and it s clear the leeds-based artist has made an impression on steve o sullivan with her tough stabs and dub flecked groove of * discovery inn* a perfect fit for mosaic. complementing this, the clandestine project looks to be a most promising endeavour for watson and drake on the basis of their two searing contributions with the urgent machine funk flex of * slave to the system* a proper highlight.

autoroutes ii by pamplonas iii3s (aka supersobresaturado) is the soundtrack for a 21st-century trip interconnecting continents and generations of acid-house lovers and ravers. this record is a hard-driving journey into (ph)uturistic sounds that takes it back to the old school. iii3s knows that the best road-trips begin and/or end in chicago (which is, after all, the start-point of the legendary route 66) and he knows the start-point of any journey into acid-house is chicagos phuture, the legendary masters whose *acid trax* created the genre in 1986. and so he is humbled to get remix support on this special edition vinyl release from none other than phuture members lothario lee, dj spank-spank, and ron maney aka dj skull.

the lost in time series continues with the fourth release in ralph lawson’s new imprint. the label releases timeless music from a collective of maestros including chez damier, tuccillo, carl finlow and debukas. after the recent license of ‘hold over me’ to no 19 music the crew return to the mothership for ‘lost on the island’. a 3 track ep recorded between studios in leeds, paris and ibiza from lawson, finlow and tuccillo. the final mixing was carried out at unblock studios in ibiza after a series of excursions to very diverse places on the island.

* rust* is the debut single from the new collaborative project between harry agius (better known as midland) and vocalist robbie redway. the project was formed in leeds, written in london and finished in berlin under the influence of ewan pearson. as midland, harry agius has built a reputation for releasing delicately brilliant bass driven house and techno, and over the course of his various releases he has hinted at a desire to explore sounds away from the dancefloor. coupled with the songwriting talents and vocals of robbie redway, *rust* is the first taste of that exploration.
