eric estornels lone romantic releases -anomaly-, the new ep of the veteran english-born, france-based producer carl finlow. -anomaly- is the 3rd instalment, following estornel’s maceo plex album -solar- and the return of his mariel ito alias with the -2e komst- ep, remarking the distinct sound of the label once again, while pushing a step forward at the same time. with the relaunch of mariel ito, the electro and idm alias of estornel, that was active in the early 2000s with releases on modern love or scsi-av and that will see a retrospective album from that time on r&s records, lone romantic is a new suitable platform for carl’s music. however, from the 90s until today, his vast catalog traverses through the most relevant labels out there such as warp, soma, klang, scsi-av, novamute, satamile, electrix and his own 2020 vision. -anomaly- is a four-tracker showcasing classic electro schemes with ease. a frenetic mysticism and a meditative melancholy stand behind the most innovative trajectories of funk, within a mood much divergent than the usual conservative reverence towards the genre.

this is the first vinyl release for genau recordings, a brand new independent techno label born in torino (italy) from the unfamous genau party series. four pure techno tracks signed under the collective artist name genau that put together the experiences of two local artists as gandalf and kessa and the already well known (production wise) duo noizyknobs (also active with their new project exilles). this ep is the result of one year of intense work from these four artists and it s the perfect synthesis of their ways to see techno music.the ep opens with pac-man, a dancefloor killer featuring a strong acid bassline and a paranoid modular synth on it. -genesi is the deepest of all tracks, and it s one of the first productions ever recorded by the genau team. side b features pressing plant, another dancefloor oriented techno track with a solid drums section and a driving bassline, while dont speak is a minimalistic bass orented dark tunnel.

intraverso is a journey in that momentary inbetween land that many of us experience sometimes. it explores the turmoil of feelings of when one gets stuck in the middle, floating in between ambition and complete stillness.
fabrizio lapiana is a well-known name on the contemporary italian techno scene. he has been involved in music since the 90’s when he started dj ing in his hometown rome. to date he has over two handfuls of releases on labels such as figure jams, arts and m_rec ltd - as well as his own imprint, the well renowned attic music, founded in 2008.
intraverso is fabrizio’s debut album, set for release on his label. the record is a very personal journey, according to the artist himself. you here find him examining different territory than where he usually heads within his productions. the album, which consists of nine songs in total, was composed between april 2016 and february 2017 in his studio in rome. written in a state of -introspect-, we here see an artist in motion. changing. evolving. the perfect moment to explore something new and unveil a different side of yourself to the world.

frank is the latest release from dolfin records, a texas indie label with a prominent underground roster that includes rapper lord byron, producer ben hixon, r&b singer jon bap, and former stanley clarke drummer mike mitchell. liv.e is one of the newer artists on the label, having previously collaborated with hixon through a series of dj parties in dallas (“new math mondays”). hixon and bap have significant marks on this project, providing production, mixing, and background vocals. the beats they lend are often heavy on the drums, with short, hazy riffs that resemble dilla-style syncopated loops. frank opens with a short hiss, launching into a jittery pattern of cymbals and drums, stinging bass slaps, and bouncy guitar riffs. you can almost see the tape reels rolling in front of you as the instrumental loops play themselves out with occasional flutters and skips. a chorus of voices enter with harmonies out of the george clinton songbook, blending in behind the slow, finger-snapping beat. it sounds more like a lost, dusty funk recording from the ’70s than an r&b song made in 2017. -nitish pahwa (passion of the weiss)

a firm favourite with the hot creation camp, jey kurmis returns to the label with his jessycat ep. following acclaimed releases lil’ nic french, kari and not too flabbeh on the imprint, we once again see the talented producer at the top of his game. the ep stays true to jey’s trademark sound as the producer delivers three tracks to take the dancefloor through to the small hours. the ep opens with jessycat, a bubbling tribal affair that implores you to move. an array of vocals bleeds into the record taking you on a journey to outer space. fien features co-producers nukov & yelmet and takes a darker turn with a rumbling bass and intense vocals that state “my head spinning like a merry go”. the outer space sounds continue into closing track vanstone, unfolding with a swinging bass and distorted stabs. part of the industry from more than a decade, jey kurmis has previously released on labels such as, moon harbour, leftroom and kaluki. taking his dj skills to new levels he has played the world’s hottest parties- from sonar to bpm, and the warehouse project to dc10. the leed’s based music maker has also commanded residencies at do not sleep and paradise.

noho records presents mandala, the upcoming groundbreaking sound of brenta. it s a new project by jay green cami sagats and madi grein born from a 3-days holiday to ibiza, filmed by fiesta & bullshit at ibizenco. everything you need to see the sunset is a great taste of funk groove and the cami warm vocals. bomber drives croma is a lifestyle, abs pleasure to pump the electric bass up. highly recommended!!

excise is thrilled to host san francisco underground xture max gardner on the label’s 3rd vinyl release. max runs the legendary californian party crew direct to earth and he’s equally a hypnotic dj selector and highly skilled synthesist. as you’ll see on this release max’s tracks are not only excellent dj tools but also deeply interesting for close-listening: truly unique electronic music dif culty to pigeonhole into a genre. “mona loops” is an immersive experience on club speakers as an eerie high-pitched synth line twists in unexpected ways over powerful waves of bass. next max remixes label co-owner muon’s track “kmc” redefining its raw elements into a blitzing four and half minute romp held together by a jagged low-mid frequency lead line. “broken pinkies” is hard to de ne. all we can say is it embodies the feeling of the san francisco all night underground world more than any single song in recent memory. it begs for repeat listening. yan cook joins the excise family for a banging remix of “broken pinkies”almost shocking in its spin off the original. we’re huge fans of yan over here and this track embodies what we love most about his productions - groovy but with serious bite.

tardis records are delighted to welcome uk tech-house hero flow to the tardis records stable for their eighth release. the three tracks making up the trine ep were recorded together with simon moorecroft (a.k.a. simon vinyl junkie) around the time of his first vinyl releases back in 1996-1997. all three tracks sound completely contemporary whilst having more than enough old school flavour to give flashbacks to any 90s ravers. lead track boy girl action has skipping, garage-influenced beats with rolling bass and swirling atmospherics, whilst a breakbeat, vocals and a stabby intro give trine on the flip a more ravey feel. closing out the ep, i see you is the dubbiest cut here, with another heavy bassline, cut-up vocals,and subtly swung percussion. eli and oscar have loved testing these tracks out on the road and can vouch for their impact on a peak-time dancefloor!

4 years can feel like a really long time – -long time no see- was achim maerz frst wake up! ep back in 2013, -it s been a while- is his frst track on metal and machines and it s good to see that some things don t change. it s a true achim maerz track – focused on longing melodies, warmly distorted harmonies based on deep house foundations. -listening to machines- features a kickdrum like a steam hammer in factory hall. for the right mind, even a factory can be an inspiring place. benjamin brunn s -iron copper gold- follows his manner of creating timeless and eternal soundscapes. it is less playful and takes the tension to higher grounds. just like metal, it s cold being touched and it doesn t take long until it reaches body temperature. the fourth track express mode- was released on benjamin brunns drop lp in 2015. achim maerz remix sounds like a screwed-down uptempo house track – slow and heavy, but benjamin brunn s quirkiness is undeniably there.

spacetalk is proud to reveal its most exciting release to date: a collection of long-lost recordings from forgotten californian duo morrison kincannon, rescued from the dusty tape archives of the pair’s lead songwriter, norman morrison... with only a handful of sought-after private press 7” singles to their name, morrison kincannon are all but unknown outside record collecting circles. yet norman morrison and terry kincannon wrote and recorded some superb songs during the 1970s and early ‘80s, desperately hoping for the break that would see them released on vinyl. now, at last, their time has finally come.

faze action records, (far), next release unearths the disco wonder of unreleased music by andromeda orchestra. the lead track has been expertly remixed by legendary dj nick the record, extending the percussion, bass, keyboard sections and then teasing in the vocals towards the end to turn the track into a peak time disco burner which sits comfortably alongside disco old and new. on a2 we have high steppin which see s andromeda orchestra heading for a more stripped down instrumental track, tight percussion and keys drive home another floor filler. b1 we have the original mix of get up & dance, staying true to a classic disco arrangement. with b2 ,andromeda orchestra exit with a more laid back funk/disco groove perfect for the warm up.

chances are if you are reading this, you are probably already familiar with dinosaur ls go bang and danced countless times to loose joints its all over my face. a prolific musician, arthur russell produced an abundant amount of recordings over the course of his career. although a classically trained cellist, he released a number of successful underground dance hits under various monikers and collaborations. as a solo artist however, his inability to complete projects resulted in a limited amount of official releases, world of echo (1986) being his only full-length solo effort to see release in his lifetime

another root ready to bloom has been found in yann polewka. his opener is a filter laden, vocal drenched affair that holds the ever present rfb groove. all i dooo is next and holds that similar french filter style this one focusing on heavy strings and driving drums. the b side sees up ramp up a gear, luv me baby is looping and relentless. the piano and bass loop is short and repetitive but is constantly changing with filters vocals and interweaving percussion, this one works great on the dance floors. with b2 we see rfb take an unusual path for the label. all around is reminiscent of drum and bass almost liquid vibe with seductive vocals and ramped up tempo.

this forgotten album is arguably one of the five best albums in the cash discography. it is fueled by superb original cash songs and well executed covers. it contains “see ruby fall” (co-written with roy orbison) and one of his best 70s hits, “blistered”. the lean, minimalist instrumentation of the tennessee three ensures the album with great rhythm, leaving johnny cash’s voice as affective as ever. the album itself reached no. 1 on the country charts and no. 6 on the pop charts.

presence unknown is a new vinyl and digital label curated by longtime producer and dj, neil keating aka controlled weirdness. neil has been behind the decks and deeply involved in all aspects of club and underground sound system culture since the early eighties. he has released his music on numerous underground labels and performed all over the world, from plush clubs to dirty warehouses. worth a read are a couple of published articles by neil regarding his experiences on the dance floor of underground clubs in london and new york in the eighties. see links at the bottom of this page for these as well as a detailed biography and discography. there is also a link to a recent 40-minute interview with distant planet tv that explores his cultured rave history. the second release on presence unknown contains four future-retro house grooves from controlled weirdness crafted using a variety of analogue and digital hardware in his south london studio.

weve been huge fans of tims work since the release of his first self-titled ep on astrolab. his analogue sound has been described as both death mulch and rare gloom. for his second work for love twelve, he continues the journey into dark spaces with four more deep synth freakers from his fish island school of synthesis studio. after releases on esteemed labels including emotional response, world unknown, bird scarer, hoga nord, rotters golf club (as the asphodells with andrew weatherall) and his own label crimes of the future which he runs with scott fraser, his debut album where is the champion? was released earlier in the year to critical acclaim. tim will continue to push forward and we feel privileged to see him return for a wfl round two.

red laser ceo il bosco selects four manctalo nukes that rock the label s manchester party on a regular basis. the manchester dj and producer carefully edits these rare or ignored tracks with the help of the another well-known local who only wishes to be known as the bat. play that song is like the smiths decided to have a go at boogie and creates an amazing mix of indie electro funk that shouldn t work but does. a little happiness has had the big italo collectors around europe searching frantically for the original of this lost gem since the track was aired on red laser s soundcloud. who will find it first? pac manc is an amazing dreamy slice of electro boogie ripe for the dancefloor and finishing the ep in style is the heavy drum led afro funk of shotgun rules again, with a synth bassline so big you could see it from mars. this one will live in dj bags for some time. limited to 150. hand stamped in textured grey card sleeves.

ossian’s debut solo ep comes out on south london analogue material (s.l.a.m), the label he created with ansome 3 years ago. after a previous joint release on s.l.a.m and a remix on perc trax, we get to see original tracks from ossian for the first time.

as huntleys + palmers events has drawn to a close, 2018 will see a big focus in releasing some brilliant new music and introducing some amazing new artists. first up is wheelman straight out of glasgow and fresh off the back of his debut for our studio barnhus buddies. to our shame, it took a kornel kovacs trip to rubadub to bring to our attention a real talent who was under our now the whole time! hed even been to a bunch of our parties and wed never made the connection. righting this wrong, we promptly hit him up for music to include on a clyde built compilation and they were so good, we designated the bulk of these tracks to this release 5 absolute belters!

2017 has seen many a debutant on toolroom and this could be the most exciting one yet as we welcome format:b to the toolroom family! the german tech house duo have been ruling dance floors for over 10 years now and most recently had their biggest success story when dance giants ministry of sound snapped up their chunky release that went on to hit the overall top 40 in the uk charts. this ep see s 2 slabs of pure tech house hedonism with the scoop leading the way. quirky, catchy synth hooks, powerful drums, a driving bass line and bundles of energy ensure that this track causes absolute carnage on the dance floor every time it s dropped! the flip continues where this leaves off with a raucous tech house groove and some great little vocal hooks and again, as we have come to expect with every format:b production, the energy levels are through the roof.

dark entries will reissue the first four full-lengths from seminal french coldwave group, trisomie 21. originally released by stechak/pias between 1983-1987, these releases will see their first vinyl appearance in over 30 years in a deluxe edition limited boxed set. remastered by george horn at fantasy studios.

trisomie 21 is a post punk band formed in 1981 by phillipe lomprez (vocals, drums) and herv? lomprez (guitar, electronics), two brothers from abscon, in the north of france. they began composing songs at the age of 16 while studying at school. the brothers were influenced by kraftwerk, the residents, yello, p.i.l as well as the films of george a. romero. their music consists of lush soundscapes that do not easily fit into any one category. lyrics are sung in english because in the north of france the duo sought to contradict the trend at the time for everything to be sung in french. musically their mood is melancholic and one can hear traces of joy division, durutti column and the cure.
