ansome returns to perc trax for his first original release since his debut album “stowaway” was released on the label in april 2016. since then he has extensively toured europe and north and south america with his ever changing modular live set as well as further establishing his south london analogue material imprint with a run of uncompromising releases.
despite decamping to berlin last year “british steel” shows there is still a no nonsense uk grittiness to ansome’s music. the frenetic rhythms reflect the pressure and paranoia of london life and for the first time his music incorporates vocals, thanks to the voice of occasional live collaborator oliver kohlenberg.
the four tracks take in everything from broken grooves to straight up dance floor face melters with a perfect balance of rhythm and texture. “poison your body” has been a highlight of perc’s recent dj sets for months now, whilst “marching powder” was featured on rebekah’s debut essential mix for bbc radio.

as the head of berlin s eminently respected oye records, it s no surprise markus -delfonic- lindner would come correct with the edit heat for his first outing on razor-n-tape. the record starts out smooth and summery with the flow, a club-ready rework of an underground jamaican disco classic, followed by the furious afro-boogie stomp of -spf.- on the b-side an extended percussion jam builds ferociously and finally drops into a lovely lesser-known revamp of a killer disco anthem. music is love indeed!

a kind of intimate scrapbook of the startling collaboration between the techno maestro and this long-standing musical collective based in bishkek, devoted to the roots music of kyrgyzstan. loose-leaved but balanced, lucid and intimate, it sets out from stunning a cappella and virtuosic komuz and kylak, mouth harp and traditional percussion: not field, but expert studio recordings, using marvellous vintage microphones, made over several days in berlin. further, a few of these are deftly treated by moritz, using reichian de-synced double-tracking, and discreet effects. also two ten-minute dubs: a deadly, signature berlin steppers, plus its version and an echoing, mystical drum session, recorded live on stage in bishkek. and a side-long, dream-like summation: the locomotive, oceanic, clangorous, dread facets. ravishing, rooted, searching music, beautifully presented.

phase fatale creates techno from disparate subcultures of dead industrial with a post-punk spirit, bringing back an immediacy and aggressive energy sorely missing in the contemporary electronic landscape.
with “redeemer,” the debut full length from phase fatale, conceived by dj and producer hayden payne in new york by way of berlin, deepens his exploration of the tension—both sonic and conceptual—begun on his eps released over the last three years on the jealous god and unterton labels. in intent and impact, phase fatale bears allegiance to the surreal influence of juan mendez aka silent servant, with whom payne has worked closely in collaboration.

girlfriends and other machines is another distinctive work by mostly undiscovered berlin based artist rhytch displaying his unique dirty and soulful sound. the 6 track ep varies from edgy deep house to weirdo krautrock reminding one of the genreroots, while sounding like a legit fresh reinterpretation. the artists voice being revealed on most of the tracks is giving the listener a glimpse of who he is and adds some character traits to infamous rhytch. the ep gets completed by an outstanding marbod remix, which is going to make people snap with its flickering distorted 909 hats woven into one of his typical psychedelic housepads creating an irresistible groove and atmosphere. the ep being released on berlin underground imprint lofile records is a nice prospect of what is to expect of further releases and obviously a wise choice for label and artist which share the same hobbies - drinking and smoking.

berlin native florian kruse has been a key part of the underground house and tech house scene for years now, and his productions have rightfully been bringing him plaudits for their emotional maturity. finding a kindred spirit in german vocalist hendrik burkhard, as theground the pair have crafted a killer new album - dediction, including these four exceptional tracks that will appear on the vinyl edition dediction ep. homeless hearts exemplifies the duo’s effect on each other - the slick, nuanced and spacy production gives way to a powerful groove, providing the perfect backing for burkhards dreamy vocal. undercover is a clear dance-floor killer, with kruses exceptional flair for programming meeting burkhard’s understated delivery. co-written by raphael hofmann silence explores some melancholic terrain before finding its way back to the floor via kruses & burkhards lush production. the ep is concluded with creature - featuring a thick growling bass and precise, arpeggiated synth lines that cut through the mix like lasers.

berlin based producer synthek is a renowned name within contemporary techno. besides succesfully running his label natch records, he has been also a resident at the infamous tresor.
for the seventeenth installment in the string of attic music releases, synthek (luca landolfi) comes up with a staggering ep that contains a lot of adventurous drum patterns, bold arrangements and swells of daring fx.
on the a side we find “loser”, which is a brave cut of spherical yet moody techno that uses a buldging percussion line and otherwordly fx to create an ominous vibe. “uneven mind” is an exotic cut with tough drum sounds that uses a hypnotic synth swell that cuts throughout to create an alarming atmosphere. french producer and concrete resident antigone comes up with an uplifting (eight minutes long) remix for “uneven mind” on the b side which is beautifully orchastrated throughout. “faithless” is a percussive cut with intense fx blips.

despite his low profile, ken karter might be one of berlin s most influential artists in the techno scene. karter is known as a mastering engineer for the seminal m_rec ltd, however his own productions have gone largely unnoticed until his 2015 ep on stroboscopic artefact’s monad series. his ep turned heads and gained him well-deserved attention. two years later, his follow-up ep on escapism exemplifies his focus on quality over quantity. his passion for mathematical formulas combined with his intricate knowledge of sound created an outstanding record set to satisfy both fans of experimental and dancefloor techno.

fred p aka black jazz consortium delivers a timeless remix, his reshape of the title track tantalises the drum grooves, adds his trademark atmospheric ethereal synths and reworks the bass in such a way that is unexpected yet astounding.
the b side ‘we do’ is the deeper of the three tracks, fusing mysterious vocal stabs with minimal funky drums and deep rolling bass.
whilst the music is at times deep and dark, the message of the ep is positive, the title track drawing it’s inspiration from the holstee manifesto, a manifesto that producer ceri aspires to live by. this message is echoed by the lyrical content of the vocal snippets used in ‘life holstee’. this is juxtaposed with haunting eerie moog synths, alongside variating funky analog drum rhythms and sub-bass.

for the first vinyl release from toronto-based experimental techno label kikimora tapes, unfollow presents a three track 12” mastered and cut at dubplates & mastering in berlin.

dana ruh’s brouqade has long been renowned for its many eclectic and unpredictable sounds. in that essence, the label’s latest signing is a fitting fit. kamran sadeghi is an nyc based electronic music producer who is well versed in unconventional soundscapes. as likely to release an electronic music ep as he is turn his hand to film scores or more ambient textures, sadeghi has collaborated with everyone from patti smith to berlin club, berghain. a live artist of considerable depth and panache, his signing to brouqade marks another high point in the label’s story.

after a lengthy hiatus, tuskegee music is back with a heavyweight release indeed: it features tracks written by detroit heavyweights seth troxler—under his young seth alias— and cult fxhe boss omar s. amazingly they were written 11 years ago and have been long forgotten until recently being unearthed. the first track here was inspired by a trip seth made to berlin’s club der visionaere in 2005. “it basically was me returning to detroit and telling omar about this crazy music i heard ricardo play during the day.” the result, ‘deep’(cdv 2006 mix), is a spine tingling atmospheric deep house track. the drums are lo-fi and loose, the bassline is a meandering thing that really sucks you in and soft, gentle toms tumble around the groove and encourage you to cut loose. then comes the experimental slow motion drum shuffle of ‘detroit after midnight’ which the pair made after “finding loads of weird records in his basement sampling them and making a classic mpc detroit cut.” it has the sounds of people talking as if coming from the room next door laid over a lazy and undulating bassline, and is brilliantly weird and sketchy. last of all, young seth goes solo on ‘luiza’s inferno’ five minutes of him jamming on omar’s ms20 with a warbling synth line coated in warm tape hiss and layers of dust. it’s a beatless piece that shows how inventive and ahead of his time troxler was even as a young man. this is a brilliantly unusual ep and another winner for seth troxler and the martinez brothers’ tuskegee label.

sonic groove’s latest high octane addition to the roster is berlin based british artist rebekah. rebekah has led a successful artist and dj career in the techno scene over the past five years with releases on the prolific clr and soma imprints as well as her own labels elements and decoy. her soma album from a few months ago entitled “fear paralysis” shows her artistic skills of having a wide range of flexibility as she weaved through many styles of techno from deep to hard.
taking her artistry into further realms of sound construction, rebekah ventures into a much harder industrial techno terrain with her latest four cut release entitled “into the black”. designed specifically with sonic groove in mind. “loose mechanics” & “conquest” are ferocious industrialized peak time techno pulverizers that will turn stone into dust.
“into the black” is an advant garde broken beat track with a pitch shifting, hauntingly dissonant string drone would be the perfect score for a sci-fi horror flick while “war cry” turns the blackness into a lighter shade of grey with it’s complexly designed chord driven emotions layered over a very intricately programmed drum rhythm.

x-coast helps to launch brand new label underthesea. the new york-based artist delivers three fresh original cuts complemented with a remix by berlin’s versatile talent borrowed identity. the ep presents equal parts of groove and energy characterised by x-coast s 90’s rave inspirations with a pulsating swell combined with seductive female vocals just like a mermaid’s allure. on the flip-side, borrowed identity illustrates his stripped down rhythms for a well-rounded 12-inch.

rodhad’s debut album ‘anxious’ sees the artist step away from the dancefloor and further develop the narrative qualities of his beautiful soundscapes. it was the natural next step to present the sound he began cultivating with his recent eps “kinder der ringwelt” and “söhne der erde” as a full length lp. the experience the album is trying to convey is being thrown into a world that is ready to crush you.they have you with your back to the wall, and you are ready to give way to despair. will you be able fight back? how is it even possible? rodhad is the spearhead of a new generation of techno producers and djs. with his bass heavy grooves and dubby atmospheric soundscapes he is a sonic guide, knowing exactly where he wants to take the crowd, leading through the inexhaustible sounds of techno music in all its beauty and gloom. he fully immerses himself into the music, yet never loses himself. growing up in berlin’s rougher outskirts, as a teenager he was able to grasp the final flashings of berlin’s mythical nightlife of the 1990s at legendary places casino and ostgut. in the late 2000s the dystopian crew began their own series of parties and then the label with two seminal releases by rodhad, “1984” and “blindness”.

berlin based mannequin records pushes out some proper industrial/ebm bangers. raised in pescara on the adriatic coast and ow based in frankfurt am main antonio barbetta is debuting on death of the machines as raw ambassador. the heavy four track ep is created to burn every dancefloor with full industrial vibes and a lot of ebm influences, giving us a small insight into his violent and rough sound. antonio is also running the smashing tape record label, with releases from violet poison, innsyter, dj loser and delivery. tip!!!

the project -get in touch- is based in mainz and berlin, and was founded by the guys behind orbit iii. their passion is to create a blend of trippy minimalistic sounds with classic house and techno elements and to get in touch with the music. for their first release they are proud to present a primetime killer remix from nicola kazimir contrasting the rather smooth original by willberg on side a. klaser&karrenberg, the highly recommended newcomers from mainz, showcase a dry acid interpretation of the playful floating orbit iii track on side b.

ziúr is a female berlin-based producer and she’s bringing some future club industrial vibes to objects with her deeform ep. in 2015 she started ‘boo hoo’, a night dedicated to the queer community, along side joey hansom. bookings are inclusive, having female identifying and people of colour on the bill with a core friendly and accepting space for people to party. ziúr first made stirs when she remixed peaches “how you like my cut- from the totally nsfw but incredibly fun ‘rub’ lp. she then exploded on to the scene with her debut club vibe taiga ep on infinite machine earlier this year. ziúr has come a long way from her experimental noisy punk band ‘sissters’. punk vibes still run through the dark and bass-heavy sound of deeform ep though. her use of environmental noises, dogs barking and the like, are evocative of cityscapes and dimming lighting when the streets meet dusk. “my testing ground for my own music is when i work at a venue and i do a sound check,” she explains. “if people freak out, then i know that it’s a good track.”

ziúr is one of the most exciting producers to come out of the fringes of berlin club music in the last few years. a new generation is breaking out of the techno mould and creating in a spirit of freedom and experimentation, taking seemingly incompatible influences and balancing them into a new and exciting sound. ziúr is also the founder and resident dj of boo-hoo, a night championing diverse lineups, reflecting its creative audience, bringing through the cream of the experimental dance underground. planet mu are proud to release ziúr’s debut album “u feel anything?” in collaboration with objects limited, a label run by lara rix-martin which releases music by women and non-binary people.

marlon hoffstadt is a rising star as both a dj and producer, effortlessly joining the dots between classic rave and the future of techno. taking a break from running his retrograde label, marlon has cooked up observing the known for ransom note records. over three tracks of warm synths, bubbly acid and emotional chord progressions, the ep sees marlon reimagining house music for todays dancefloor, taking the passion and energy of ‘80s chicago and giving it the production heft of 2017 berlin. opener ‘floating’ is a piano house classic, shot through with chimes and 303 gurgles, nostalgic for a golden age whilst optimistically looking forward. this is peak time house for dancefloors with heart. it’s followed by the computerised funk of ‘arp+’, an acid house roller that teams jacking 303 bass with mournful strings, as sorrowful as it is uplifting. b-side opener ‘batavus’ is a driving tribute to detroit, kevin saunderson-esque keys stabbing over soaring washes of synth, the sound of late nights and starry eyes. london-based scott fraser has added a remix of arp+ that takes marlons classic techno to darker lands, with snapping electro drums and deliberately seasick bass pressure ramping up the claustrophobia. this mix has already been causing huge damage when dropped on dubplate at fraser’s feted body hammer night.

this time is ricardo rodrigues aka industrialyzer who lands on the court of damon wild with three tracks perfectly aliened with the label s philosophy, synewave has been at the service of real techno for over 20 years. it all begins with analogue planet a 130 bpm journey which rouses the dance floor whilst stimulating the mind, giving both of them no mercy. the second track, -multiple walls-, carries the flavour of an old school small march with a hammondesque synth which revolves around the groove from beginning to end. the atmosphere becomes dark and acid in the third and final track on this release. orbit x is an emotional roller coaster which develops in different phases, everyone of which takes the listener by surprise. with this release industrialyzer reminds us that, after all, new york, detroit, chicago, berlin, amsterdam or lisbon dont really matter, quality techno is a global affair and synewave consistently confirms this with releases above all schemes, movements and trends. monumental.

after nearly half a decade since their monumental make it good, dj tennis and fink re-collide on !k7. inspired, recent studio sessions have bore two breathing, sonic landscapes, entitled certain angles. glimmering pianos, droning machines and captivating songwriting take form, wrapping the berlin-based singer’s voice in subtle melancholy. both humbly understated, yet party-ready, certain angles perfectly summarises the life and death founder’s recent etching in the dj kicks stone. dj tennis has also called on four of his most trusted allies to reinterpret the 12&#8242,,,, with four digital-only remixes: the/das deliver a pensive moment of bubbling body music. francesco leali appears with a timeless, genre-bending re-perception as opus 3000. lee jones salutes the faithful dancers. mentrist’s unclassifiable excursion challenges the towering borders of techno.

am elften september 2015 erlebte das publikum der konzertserie die erste live show des duos john gürtler und phillip sollmann unter einer autobahnbrücke in offenbach. präsentiert von dem international music institute darmstadt in zusammenarbeit mit dem institut für klangforschung offenbach und der hfmdk frankfurt, wurde man zeuge einer einzigartigen auralen konversation innerhalb dieses überwältigenden settings. ein jahr später fand sich ein fragment der aufnahme des brückenkonzerts auf der sky walking label compilation 41.36 und nun erscheint das erste album der beiden musiker. phillip sollmann und john gürtler treffen sich 2011 im gerade fertiggestellten studio komplex the meadow, in berlin wedding. seitdem herrscht ein reger austausch an ideen und ihre zusammenarbeit beginnt ganz pragmatisch mit einem experimental remix, einer akustischen version von john gürtler für sollmanns techno projekt efdemin, veröffentlicht anlässlich einer reihe von remixen auf dial records.

the first ep from mouse on mars since their anniversary recording 21 again (2014) is clearly connected to their recent club gigs. in fact, synaptics sees the berlin duo embrace their love of juke, footwork and chopped up house music like never before. on its three tracks, andi toma and jan st. werner reinforce the collaborative idea of 21 again: eight different artists have been involved in the making of these tracks, which deliberately depart from a characteristic mouse on mars sound, creating a more organized vibe while still maintaining links to their previous work. there are two directions of research in andi and jan s sonic laboratory: one is focused on experimental club music, the other is in search of music without ties to specific genres. though heavily leaning towards the club, synaptics is caught in between. from the duo s perspective, it even touches pop territory. all three tracks came into existence during the past four years. opener „jack is out- with its pounding lazer stabs is an obvious link to their current club sets as well as a clue on future productions. after months of redesigning and rearranging, it found its final form through an edit by bon iver producer ryan olson aka arson only at his wisconsin studio, where andi and jan also recored for their next album. „bluescreen- was born out of a berlin session with jessy lanza and junior boys and was completed some year later with support from modeselektor. and the tropical funk of „sensitive person-, based on a studio jam with sepalcure, also needed some aging and refinement after a couple of months.

you could be forgiven for thinking bassos (label owner) been hitting the plant food of late. last time out we took a trip with trance, and now our esoteric expert nods his head, rolls his shoulders and drops a house record on our unexpecting asses. thats right folks, roll up the rug, push the sofa back and enjoy some ‚personal growth‘ from james booth. . operating a million miles away from the kick and hiss of the trendy lo-fi folks, the berlin based producer favours subtle rhythms, delicate textures and tender melodies - turning out a string of sophisticated dance floor winners for 100% silk, church and no bad days. now he brings his organic house stylings to the growing bin with a fresh five-tracker packed with all the warmth of a tempelhof picnic on a balmy july afternoon.

resurgam bedeutet ich werde wiederauferstehen- und ist das heiß ersehnte, sechste studioalbum von fink. die band besteht aus dem in england geborenen und in berlin lebenden singer/songwriter und bandgründer fin greenall und seinen langjährigen mitstreitern tim thornton (drums, gitarre) und guy whittaker (bass). das album erscheint mitte september 2017 bei r coup d / ninja tune. der titel -resurgam- entstammt einer lateinischen inschrift aus einer 900 jahre alten kirche in greenalls heimat cornwall. diese haltung pulsiert durch das ganze album, das vom wegweisenden produzenten flood (pj harvey, u2, foals, warpaint, the killers) in seinen assault & battery studios in nord-london aufgenommen wurde. die zehn neuen tracks wurden innerhalb von zwei monaten geschrieben einer luxuriösen zeitspanne im vergleich zu vorherigen fink-alben und bilden einen songzyklus, der zugleich selbstbewusst und umfassend ist. resurgam ist ein mutiges neues kapitel, aber auch unverkennbar fink: mit ganzem herzen, gefühlvoll, unbändig, aufregend. ein klares highlight!

tangerine dream have been a fundamental influence on electronic and progressive music since their formation in west berlin, 1967. inspiring genres, musicians and other art forms, from the future sound of london to porcupine tree, the widely popular tv show stranger things (for which their music also featured in) to seminal video game grand theft auto v (for which they helped to write the soundtrack). the group, led by edgar froese, have received seven grammy nominations, written over 100 studio albums and developed instantly recognisable synth-based instrumental music based on a meditative musical experience, that came to prominence in the 70s and 80s.
the new album, quantum gate features an updated, contemporary development of their trademark sound: sequencer-driven electronica covering a wide range of moods and atmospheres from ambient soundscapes to energetic, upbeat moments.

neues album? ja. neue songs? nein, dafür aber völlig neue interpretationen. mit »reprise« präsentiert maxim 2017 fast schon eine seltenheit. vor allem titel seines aktuellen albums »das bisschen was wir sind«, hat der deutsche musiker dafür aufgenommen, und zwar jeweils in einem take, das heißt live und ohne verschiedene spuren, samples, schnitte etc. dazu schnappte sich maxim im frühjahr eine handvoll musiker und kehrte mit ihnen für eine woche in den berlin red bull studios ein. »reprise« heißt das spannende, insgesamt neun songs starke resultat, dass es jetzt als limitierte und nummerierte 180 gramm lp inklusive cd gibt.

eric maltz is a producer from new york city and now resides in berlin, germany. he is a former employee of halcyon records from its og glory days in it s first location in red hook/carrol gardens areas of brooklyn. -eric provided a sofa to me often through-ought my 20 s and vice-versa, we both cared about music above all else- we lived and breathed music- and we helped each other survive when we were penniless - if one was up, so was the other... eric and i were roommates, friends, we looked out for each other in a rough city with tough rules. every time one of us got a job at a restaurant or record shop, within weeks we would have the other working there too. we did that for a decade. we slang records for years at halcyon- a shop on smith street which had a portrait of stevie wonder painted on the front facade- and we threw parties all around brooklyn back then too.. every shitty bar that would have us lol. we were a dope team. he s the only person who has ever touched the third rail on a subway and survived too! true story. so you know i couldn t wait to release his debut lp. proud of this guy- - levon vincent

planet rhythm teams up with rotterdam techno operation th tar hallow and releases a collection of tracks by artists that have frequently appeared on the cult label. deep down westcoast electronics by respected artists such as klankman, charlton, labelboss thanos hana and rhyw. klankman opens up this 4-track va with the ominous “can not use that command on overlapping selections”. berlin based rotterdammer charlton follows up with the heavy arps and outgoing drums of “profiler”. thanos hana opens up the b side with the tough techno cut “the injury pattern” and berlin based rhyw- closes down the varied slice of vinyl with the moving “mkfbtb”.

office recordings continues to surprise us. after baaz s techno-/ambient-hybrid on office 011 the label from berlin comes up with a stunning new and anonymous project called * one day* featuring four also unnamed tracks. the a-side of the record starts off with a with a superb deep techno track which tempts us with very emotional pads and a strong kick and bass fundament û an irresistible combination. a2 goes in the same direction but feels like the slightly mellower and softer brother of its predecessor û a little bit moody but still straightforward at the same time. the flip side is dedicated to two freestyle electronic tracks standing in the tradition of the best warp offerings from their heyday in the 90s. weÆre talking charming melodies and sparse but elaborate rhythmic patterns. the record comes in a hand stamped and with a lovely artwork also hand made by office art director super quiet. all tracks have been mastered and cut by sound engineering proficient pole at scape mastering.

on “rest in space”, his first full length outing for music for dreams, the lp keeps a steady pace of around 90-95 bpm, but never gets repetitive with islandman taking us on a rich and ever surprising journey, full of quirky turns and mysterious instrumentations. the opener “rest in space” treats us to a funky percussion-thick rhythm that lounges into a pool of playful & jazzy horn & flute arrangements. this is followed by the epic “night wind” which sweeps across cinematic desert landscapes of synth layers and falls into a dark night time groove reminiscent of nicolas jaar & dave harrington’s darkside project. “seikleos” centers around a motorik electronic rhythm pattern (not unlike the classic electro-pop classic “popcorn”) that develops into a chugging balearic house jam while stand out track “future days” brings in a female guest vocalist to complete the album with a breezy full on groover that echoes of both sheila chandra and tom tom club. also included is the previously released digital single “agit” as well as a remix by berlin-based m.rux, toning down the heavy guitar of the original in favor of a more bouncier interpretation. the stunning “ikaru” wades in through chunks of jungle ambiance and watery percussion to lounge along on a rubbery funk bassline, coupled with a heavy laid back beat and wobbly derelict synth figures. “tawhid” is an odd mix of new wave brilliance and prog momentum that breaks into a cascade of pouring rain and surprising percussion breaks. lastly comes gorgeous eastern guitar opus “the true word of the wind” and the warm vibey dreamscape “following”. as a whole, islandman delivers a delicate buffet of influences - spanning the spectrum from hazy balearic pop to tropical new age flirts to deep spiritual psychedelic jamming.
