wer hart arbeitet, aus dem kann auch was werden. der deutsche sänger und musiker maxim ist das perfekte beispiel dafür. bereits vor 11 jahren präsentierte der damals erst 23-jährige sein selbstbetiteltes debütalbum, auf dem er reggaesongs in deutscher sprache sang. weitere drei alben folgten bis 2016, auf denen er sich immer mehr in richtung pop orientierte. mit seinem letzten album »staub« (2013) schaffte er schließlich den sprung in die charts, und zwar direkt in die top 10. und genau an dieser stelle macht maxim jetzt weiter und präsentiert mit »das bisschen was wir sind« sein mittlerweile fünftes album. dafür ging er mit ein paar echten profis ins studio.

neues album? ja. neue songs? nein, dafür aber völlig neue interpretationen. mit »reprise« präsentiert maxim 2017 fast schon eine seltenheit. vor allem titel seines aktuellen albums »das bisschen was wir sind«, hat der deutsche musiker dafür aufgenommen, und zwar jeweils in einem take, das heißt live und ohne verschiedene spuren, samples, schnitte etc. dazu schnappte sich maxim im frühjahr eine handvoll musiker und kehrte mit ihnen für eine woche in den berlin red bull studios ein. »reprise« heißt das spannende, insgesamt neun songs starke resultat, dass es jetzt als limitierte und nummerierte 180 gramm lp inklusive cd gibt.

mr. statik is back on mos ferry with his new ep roll down the shutters. and he got massive support from sasha perera (jahcoozi). she performed the laid-back vocals on this release. remixes by dapayk and daze maxim complete the package - but enough with the name dropping. the original track shows influences in dub, but with an elegant touch.

hello?repeat 022 brings flash and anavi. both tracks in essence bring a linear and continuous flow, to many, a daze maxim signature in the sense that each element does not scream for attention alone, it is the combination of them which creates the overall impact. a dose of what we need when we need it. it is to do with structure, it is about the way in which elements are thrown in adding that bit of surprise effect which is able to stunt and amuse us all in a very good way. flash starts with a solid bass line, the vocal flash, a hypnotic cosmic/trippy element and a hoovering noise on the background making up the intro. the locomotive sounding high-hats then slam in, which together with the bass line complete a dance floor bliss of a track with all that groove.

maxim lany has been with the label since the very beginning back in november 2011. with two tracks on the first two compilations he helped setting the labels tone. and now, maxim is back. and he brought his friends

dope me / does caroline know? is a slightly clubbier affair-less sun ra and more soul capsule-but still possesses the air of strangeness that makes the duo so unique. each artist leaves his mark within the first few measure of dope me. the steady high-hats and flawless kick drum are straight out of dazes playbook, while the nervous piano and 3 chairs-style claps are unmistakably bruno. as for the slurred vocal pleading >dope me..dope me<, thats anyones guess. the track carries on for a solid nine minutes as half-melodies and quasi-hooks slide in and out of the mix. the b-side, does caroline know?, takes us deeper and darker. the drums are plodding, the mood is ominous, and a series of dreamlike flourishes add to an already eerie groove. like the a-side, its a surrealistic style of house that only these two could deliver. the artwork, as usual, is done by daze maxim.
