nep was a loose multimedia collective formed in 1982 zagreb, ex-yugoslavia. the founder dejan krsic collaborated with various artists in a quest of re-thinking the stale concepts of art history, position of the author and the barriers between pop and elitist high culture. heavily influenced by walter benjamin and andy warhol in theory and brian eno and kraftwerk in music, krsic created nep as an umbrella term (meaning nova evropa) of diverse rule-breaking activities, covering graphic design, music, photography, video, news-media and theoretical work.

copenhagens music for dreams comes with yet another strong release - a double album of personal favourites compiled by jan schulte. according to all maps and witness accounts, germany does not officially have any tropical forests. this is of no concern to schulte however, who has unearthed many stunning examples of tropical drum music recorded there. perhaps the number of botanical gardens and palm houses in germany confused musicians into mistaking the climate, or maybe it was just a happy blend of escapism and multi-cultural integration within musical scenes that spawned such a curious output of undefinable tribal folk jazz. most of the tracks picked by schulte were released on small labels in the late 80 s. the musicians involved were mainly traditionally schooled, born and raised in germany. at that time to be interested in foreign folk music might have seemed a gimmick to some, what with the emerging -world music boom- already snowballing into the mainstream. but these songs, while they may be based on musical traditions from foreign lands, deal much more with introspection than exploitation. schulte himself points to his -general fascination for music that describes places where the artists have never been. songs about the jungle or the rainforest made by people that know the rainforest only from television and books. somehow i think you can hear their mythical imagination and fantasy in those tracks,- he explains....

keope is the musical brainchild of toni bruna and marcus rossknecht. with the aim to record an album they ve met in an abandoned quarry on the slovenian border. the outcome tropicalni seems to exist in a vacuum. stylistically, all tracks here owe something to multiple genres and reference points - from folk, balearic, psychedelic and electronica, but none really fit well. synths drift in breezily, floating around the wistful melodies, acoustic guitars sparkle, while flutes & the beats hint at a deeper connection to dance rituals.

‘spes aeterna’ compiles seven sonic representations of the video art by diane drubay. five musicians coming from australia, united states and sweden collaborated with the french video artist to create a deep ambient and experimental drone compilation: zanias, halv drøm, kim boekbinder, dan söderqvist and bixu. the compilation is a right blend of psychoactives colors with textural, emotional and rhythmic soundscapes to expand the idea of sublime and create a strong natural cognitive enhancer. the compilation should be listened facing the video pieces to dive into an introspective state and reach high consciousness. this is the first installation of a trilogy.

karl meier, ken meier and jon krohn, aka stave, are launching a label called standards & practices.
the three us artists, who share chicago roots, have a pretty straightforward mission in mind for standards & practices: “to provide a platform for releases by both talker and stave, as well as for material by other like-minded artists and collaborators.” talker is the downwards-affiliated duo of karl meier—a longtime techno dj, now based in berlin, who took part in ra’s playing favourites series last year—and krohn, formerly of the experimental rock group male, who’s also been putting out his own brand of abstract, industrialized electronic music as stave for around four years. ken meier, a new york-based graphic designer, partner at common name and dj—and karl’s brother—takes care of art and design for the label.
standards & practices’ opening move is a talker 12-inch, battle standards, the duo’s third full release and first since their 2014 album for downwards. a three-track ep built with material from their new live set and “aimed squarely at the dance floor,” it includes a new version of “my favorite colour is gold,” from 2015’s the immortal eye compilation cd. it’s due out in late july. next will be black hills, a five-track ep from stave that’s expected in september.

a strange confluence of sound that sounds part krautrock synth label brain records, part hyperdub. techno haze and synth wormholes with spectacular sound design that has banged at berghain and soundtracked winter night drives. greenspan is known mainly for his work with junior boys and jessy lanza and taraval is a longtime touring member of caribou, but both have released several 12” and eps of electronic exploration over the past few years. inspired by synthesizer minimalists like jd emmanuel, cluster and john carpenter, the two attempted to create a type of dance music with hardware that was indebted to their influences but did not feel intrinsically retrogressive. the idea was to make a type of raw synthesizer and drum machine music that could be listened to beside the hypermodern techno of pearson sound or actress. the cover art is a tribute to a mysterious mural that looms over the hamilton ontario area where the album was recorded. each of the five tracks on the ep were edited down from much longer recording jams which were done with hardware sequencers in real time. the recording was done completely off the floor with no overdubs or added material after the fact.

the enigmatic label from berlin, schakal recordings is back with its fifth release and young dj lorenz lepus is next in line. the lepus project has gone through many guises, finally lorenz settled on making music as a solo artist under the lorenz lepus alias in 2014. while still studying at school lorenz became a resident at chalet’s tuesday sound department parties, cutting his teeth in the cities clubs he has played in venues including hoppetosse, sisyphos, arena and many more. this dedication to his music was not without some confusion, being aware of the melan- cholic minimal tendencies of his productions he has always been loathe to pin himself to a particular genre.what with the success of his career so far.. perhaps this isn t a bad thing. ‘feral child’ is made up of two original tracks and two remixes.the title track s melody swells until it breaks down into a pulsing and rolling rhythm. ‘lost’ is more immediate in its dance-floor compatibly, maintaining the rolling style lorenz imbues his take on deep house with an emotional poignancy rarely heard. floyd lavine steps up for the first remix on the ep, floyd is a resident at the legendary rise par- ties at watergate, with one foot in berlin and the other in his native cape town floyd delivers a beauti- fully loopy and oddball twist on ‘feral child’ adding crunching static sounds. providing a harder take on ‘feral child’, italies vii circle change the rolling melody into a slow techno heater.

leading lady and artistic talent deniz kurtel returns to crosstown rebels to explore new production sounds, venturing deeper into the realms of dub and beyond with the fifth house. it’s also with huge honour that the release includes a stunning remix from highly sophisticated producer trevino following his recent passing. since her first album music watching over me was released on crosstown rebels back in 2011, deniz kurtel has continued to push boundaries creatively through her art and music. focusing on led light installation, deniz has travelled the world with her stunning live show, which incorporates both of her talents. her second album the way we live dropped on wolf + lamb in 2012 which received high acclaim. more recent releases have also appeared on rumors and no.19. marcus julian kaye is better known by his drum and bass stage name marcus intalex, and also his house and techno pseudonym trevino. he founded the record labels soul:r, revolve:r and birdie which served as a platform for his music with notable recent releases also on the likes hotflush, the nothing special, aus music and klockworks. such a highly respected figure in the industry, many have been shaken by marcus’ passing and in his honor all profits from his remix will be donated to the charity of his family’s choice.

grandi successi is a project by angelo sindaco and maurizio carli moretti with guests like raime drummer valentina magaletti, soft moon matteo vallicelli, impro-avant combo starfuckers, jonathan clancy (singer of his clancyness) plus contemporary artist claudio corsello and writer-performer emidio clementi. angelo sindaco started producing electronic industrial music on tape in the mid 80 and dark techno during the nineties, releasing albums for acv, minus habens, eukatech and more. he has been the first techno dj in bologna (italy) at link club sharing decks with underground resistance, aphex twin, theo parrish and many others. maurizio carli moretti started djing in 1981 opening for killing joke and contorsions acts and then performing in clubs and art galleries mixing dark wave and electronic music.

grandi successi is a project by angelo sindaco and maurizio carli moretti with guests like raime drummer valentina magaletti, soft moon matteo vallicelli, impro-avant combo starfuckers, jonathan clancy (singer of his clancyness) plus contemporary artist claudio corsello and writer-performer emidio clementi. angelo sindaco started producing electronic industrial music on tape in the mid 80 and dark techno during the nineties, releasing albums for acv, minus habens, eukatech and more. he has been the first techno dj in bologna (italy) at link club sharing decks with underground resistance, aphex twin, theo parrish and many others. maurizio carli moretti started djing in 1981 opening for killing joke and contorsions acts and then performing in clubs and art galleries mixing dark wave and electronic music

die stilistische abstammung von kaiser franz josef lässt sich in direkter blutlinie auf große formationen aus fünf jahrzehnten musikgeschichte zurückverfolgen: rock ›n‹ roll, heavy rock, doom, ein wenig stoner rock und natürlich grunge – namentlich bands wie black sabbath, queens of the stone age, the hellacopters oder soundgarden, deren einflüsse die Österreicher auf »make rock great again« zu ihrem kaiserlichen high-energy-mix verbinden. »wir geben den älteren fans, was sie von rockmusik erwarten und der jungen generation, was sie noch nicht kennt«, erklärt frontman sham.

who better than the french genius producer pépé bradock could remix this song? he is a widely respected producer known for his versatile, singular and mesmerizing style and his releases on labels such a avatisme, classic and versatile recordings. bradock produces a trippy remix, dub version and reprise, using the piano melody in a completely original way.
