inspired by life long dedication to music and a rebel in the underground dance scene santiago de chile based producer jeaven presents his debut on resopal. his playground effects ep is a three-tracker showing his personal definitions of contemporary house / detroity - minimal - or how should we name it ? simply ... music! playground effect, the ep title is a great description of jeavens music, where everything is in constant and vibrant motion. from the the way the tracks evolve - to sound design to the beat-programing – there are no presets. the title track seems to spin at two velocities at once, balancing a driving, linear groove with half-speed voices to create a sense of suspended animation. centralized goes even deeper, with a rippling bass melody that gets deep inside your stomach. all three tracks on this ep are like springtime on hot wax.
the dawn ep is the debut release of markey alias sander markey. who recently settled down in berlin, after he was living and working as dj and producer in gent, belgium. now he comes up with four really playful tracks. here he shows his affection for funky grooves and soulful voices. with support from mz. sunday luv, who gave her voice for a freaky intermezzo on dawn, the ep starts offensively. the repetitive groove and the marching 303 bass drum toped with a dark demanding voice have a mystic massage. as contradiction to it you hear a charming dirty string ensemble and an odd delayed snare crushing the monotony. spring break as well as in the shade, the last made in coop with robyns alias yannick robyns, have definitely the warmer funky attitude. playing around with a bobby mcferrin vocal sample and bringing out the soul. facing the clouds is closing the ep as rather melodic and atmospheric track.

last years tbg01 was charted by german djane ellen allien and broadcasted by gilles peterson of bbc-international fame - amongst others. the second installment (with the slightly confusing catalog-number tbg04) changes its appearance from white-label 12 inch in a black & white gatefold cover to heavy white vinyl in a multicolored disco-sleeve. the labels patron arthur boto conley showcases the work of obscure 1980s producer clifford trunk. the lo-fi dance and ambient tracks origin from a tape which was hand to conley by trunk during a brief encounter at düsseldorfs ratinger hof in 1986. depicted on the cover you can see italian designer ettore sottsass work for the fashion company esprits european headquarter which opened up the same year. clifford trunk was working for the sottsass associati from 1982 on and had a leisure time obsession for drum-computers and sample synths. what a serendipity! - limited to 333 records.

dutch master orlando voorn with a two-track release containing some of his pioneering material as format. rightly recognised as one of a handful of artists who built the early, crucial bridges between europe and detroit in the late-eighties and early nineties via collaborations with juan atkins and output for kms, voorn’s legacy is unquestionable. winning hollands dmc championships in 1986 and 1987 was the real career catalyst and there seems to be no let up in quality since then, either as a dj or a multifaceted, multi-genre producer. these two tracks are produced in 1993 and still didnt loose their magic!damn right and jam session have that the raw charm, edge and vibe sounds so current. energetic, melodic and broken, both tracks touch on a myriad of styles but what shines through is how modern electronic styles can be traced back to this sort of fantastic, unique output. format remastered could be sitting snuggly alongside modern house, techno, uk garage, uk funky and many more contemporary styles. this is a rare chance to grab beautifully treated versions of classic voorn material.
