a cut *dain* is a stripped down techno trip engineered for dancefloors at dawn: a siren call to the clubs most battle hardened heads, its subtle machinations will prove deadly in the right djs hands. over on the b-side, *aula* is the eps more unpredictable beast, its rougher rave edges rounded off by a rich bass synth and enigmatic vox pads that give the track an unsettling air as it nears its conclusion. xj closes the ep with an insistent slice of acid with somewhens own playful modern twist.

as big fans of red axes, were happy to welcome niv and dori to the label. their first release for hivern is pil sagol, a three-track ep that features some of their most adventurous material to date. the title track is a slice of shamanic house full of playful melodies, dripping textures and steady rhythms that result in the sonic equivalent of psychotropic trip through the jungle. me and abra in ruanda drops the tempo but keeps the mind-expanding effect with its mangled brass sounds and ceremonious pads. todum todum is the most dance floor-driven cut of the ep, building tension through distorted toms, reverberant claps and an unrelenting bass line whilst keeping the narcotic vibe of the whole release through highly enchanting cosmic melodies. the 12inch comes in a captivating sleeve by barcelona-based designer xavier marin.

as we move into a new year, again start the cogs of labels and artists around the world, this is certainly the case for disc over music as they bring us their first release of 2015. high off the back of exquisite releases in 2014 from luca lozano & mr. ho and nicson, disc overs first installment of 2015 comes from label head tim green - a three track ep bursting with two classic tg productions and grooves which is then given another dimension with a remix from the talented german born producer borrowed identity. the ep kicks off with the aptly named scar - a track which when heard, truly makes it mark. it sets the tone for the rest of the ep with its prominent bassline and haunting howls whilst dreamlike keys bounce and float above. track two, we thought is taken down a gear but keeps all of the groove built from scar. it begins with a simple trademark tg bassline and is allied with light and free singular keys. the listener is then joined by vocals which along with the previous elements take you on a real trip. borrowed identity speeds things up right away with his remix of we thought. the track is morphed into a dancefloor groove with the comforting vocals darkened, cut and reworked on top of an unpredictable and fluctuating bassline. managing to keep the identity of tims original the track becomes something completely different and certainly makes you feel you want to take the trip

tresor records is fortunate enough to be sitting on a catalogue of past releases that no other label in electronic music would turn down. three of the fi,,,nest in this collection were albums contributed by surgeon, basictonalvocabulary, balance and force + form all originally came out on the berlin institution between 1997 and 1999. surgeons inimitable combination of detroit techno and post-industrial sounds emanating from his british homeland found its fullest expression in these masterful trio of releases on tresor. the basictonal-remake 12 accompanied surgeons fi,,,rst tresor album in 1997, with additional versions as well as a remix by long-time birmingham collaborator mick harris.
valleys, ravines, crags, inaccessible mountain peaks, abyss. since times immemorial, stark mountain landscape has always been humankinds inspiration and a constant reference point for many generations of exploratory artists. ridges is a result of a creative encounter between veteran of improvised avant-electronics max loderbauer (among others, co-creator of sun electric, member of moritz von oswald trio, and frequent collaborator of ricardo villalobos) and spiritus movens of warsaw-based label recognition jacek sienkiewicz.

philippe laurent, a renowned french electro/synth wave pioneer & modern classical music composer who released a numerous amount of tapes during the 80s and a lp vinyl album on the label minimal wave records in 2011. this release joint consist in two tracks by philippe laurent from 1982 unreleased on vinyl yet and exclusively restored from the original tapes by minimal wave records studios in new york in 2014 and a cover by xeno & oaklander a cold wave and synth pop band from the same city.

after three years, ascion and d.carbone return with *substructures*, their most experimental release to date on their label 3th. the a-side of this record holds two droney offbeat tracks, *ram expedients* and *lo-fi fields*, combining a rare/abstract and genuine mix of middle-eastern electronics, cyberpunk and uk warehouse techno. the b-side contains the tracks that are responsible for the nomenclature of this release: *substructures one/two*. being more oriented to genres such as idm and rave techno, they are characterized by powerful beats and cutting edge ambients and vocals. both tracks have been recorded during one of their live performances in london 2013.
eye teeth, the new techno sub-label of interdimensional transmissions, launches with an ep from israel vines. the label say: we started this sublabel as way of exploring pure and experimental techno in an entirely contemporary context (where it often uses historical lenses and a wider musical context). this is techno from detroit and america, not detroit techno. we would like to see american techno evolve, and this new imprint is an attempt to be a catalyst in that arena.

the a1 was never a big surprise. mattias fridell s consumed for profit was one of the tracks of the year, and surely fridell s personal best track, and was played by anyone who at least plays a bit of techno in their sets. the usual fridell quality of standard and a tight synth line! a2 sees french artist electric rescue s quarries in the a. mochi remix. a peak-time banger, slapping the synth stabs right into your face. this one always gets the floor jumping. the b-side kicks off with label-head advance human s pure , stripping things down to some essential moody but slamming techno, right up there amongst his best productions. b2 has +platform s mosses closing things off, and as we came to know and love from +platform, it s out there, dubby and dreamy techno, born for those deeper berghainesque floors.
secretsundaze return with ss016 - dj qus mighty ss1 ep. secretsundaze and qu have developed a special relationship with him playing at many of their parties in london but also at their events in the likes of new york, berlin and barcelona. a full 3 track ep on a label outside of his own strength music is rare for dj qu so its serious coup for secretsundaze.

automat and max loderbauer open proceedings on the new selekt label quite masterfully with an auspicious 4 track ep - verstärker / hall / kompressor / echo. how did this come about? automat, busy recording their second album, came across max loderbauer in the neighbouring studio. they got along swimmingly and started working together straight away. everything played live, no overdubs as automats bass player georg zeitblom confirms - first take, no shake. the studio was stripped down to basics. no computers though: a tape machine, guitar amplifier, analogue eqs, rehearsal space: re-rewind, the crowd say bo selekter!

office 04 circles in memories: the record is about johannes * iron curtis* palukas time at karl-marx-straße berlin where he used to live next door to label head baaz and graphic designer chris fladung. a1 track * magnet* is an ecstatic piece of house music holding all elements ics production is esteemed and loved for : heavy, unrelenting kicks, rolling bass lines, shimmering pads, topped with searing hot yet gamelan-like synts and an icing of slightly loose, detuned organ stabs predesting grand emotions on any dance floor. * what happened happened* surely marks up as another proof of curtis fearless takes on house music: distorted field recordings and blurred spoken words, a web of gossamer melodies and subtle clicks and cuts, all cohered by the louche bassline and the reshuffled groove in a true dilla-ish vein. adapting elements to their own agenda, clandestine groove explorers berg turn * what happened* into a true midnight roller: razor-sharp hihitas join forces with a steam-maschine like percussion, whipping relentlessly in-between kick drum and kick drum. berg cools off their take with prancing melody motifs and strung out pads of the original track, though never loosing focus of the * reductions* aim: keep the dancer dancing.

with this compilation aarhus-label help recordings presents a selection of electronic music, giving it the self-evident title *relevant material*. on the first face, an uncredited weird intro is followed by two tracks from two debutants. the lofi energy of brooklyn-based love letters is followed by a new-and-classical house-sound from sports, the younger brother of the two label-heads. on the flipside older brother central, who recently appeared on the the neighbour-label nord records, shows his calmer and more melodic side. the local group lester, who did the first tape on the label, deliver a playful jam, a groovy exploration of machine dance music. the final grooves of the compilation reveal another uncredited sportive track.
