illusory house and techno from new york native image man, following up a release on crucial newcomer label sunal/perabob with another four-track 12” of windy, paradoxical tracks built from samples and drum machine. “glance” shifts further into a weirded out but druggily decadent realm where he’s found looping the reflections of disco, soul and ancient pop samples into his own spaced and primitive euphorias, starting out with the slowmo downbeat of “more” before the more apprehensive rhythms of “else” end up filtering out into a pool of a reverberant samples that echoes out the second half. from the image man himself: “we trust in the sound we take for granted—the music wouldn t lead us astray, would it? emotions can lead us astray, the wanting to feel, the wishing of forever lasting, the pleading for change, the expectation of ecstasy. just a quick glance in the mirror.”

for over five years, all day i dream has been where deep and emotive meet house music. propelled by a community of forward thinking artists drawn around the scion of master curator and sunset/sunrise set specialist, lee burridge. all day i dream formally welcomes lost desert to the label with the release of lingala, a two-track collaborative effort with burridge himself, that also features junior on vocals. lost desert was picked out of obscurity after burridge discovered his music while trekking in a remote area of a long lost land. a fast forged friendship inevitably lead to the studio, and lingala’s the enrapturing sophomore result. the duo’s first project together debuted on lee’s night time imprint, get weird, earlier this year to widespread support. lingala, is a beautifully composed ten-minute sonic journey. built around a mystical lead vocal sung by newcomer junior in his native linagles the raw emotion slowly builds in intensity over propulsive basslines and deep melodic grooves . gorje hewek & izhevski’s interpretation of lingala is a markedly different affair. focussing on musical layers rather than the vocal the duo’s signature spacey atmospheres and minimal rhythmic percussion add extra strings creating uplifting moments that contrast the original’s mood.

yes, we re back at it again with more eddie amador. after the success of house music and rise, we decided to diversify and go for a double a sided remix package with two distinctly different remixers. so please welcome ardalan and cj jeff to the yoshitoshi family! given ardalans propensity for booty basslines and infectious grooves, psycho x girlfriend seemed like the appropriate choice for the dirtybird affiliate. he flipped the tracked on its head by pumping it full of sub 100 hz frequencies, mental sound effects, and even a pinch of acid. the remix again shows this young gun s talent for creating bona fide bangers that keep the spirit of house alive. greek house don cj jeff took on 6am, the groovy and oft-overlooked 2006 wee hours anthem from amador. his remix bears a massive 808 kick that floors the mix (no pun intended) into overdrive. his simple, catchy melodies capture the classic yoshitoshi vibe beautifully.

having previously worked with zero 7 and nightmares on wax before embarking on a solo career a few years back, mozez (aka soul singer/songwriter osmond wright) is no newcomer. the ray mang-produced run river first appeared on last year s wings full-length, and here makes it to wax for the first time. sitting somewhere between early freeez and odyssey, mang s extended vocal version is something of a soulful, soft-spun disco-funk treat. as we ve come to expect from mang, its musically rich and impeccably played, with the live instrumentation providing a deliciously organic feel. this can be heard more clearly on the excellent flipside instrumental.

bologna s frank agrario decided to take destiny into his own hands earlier this year, founding micronation records as an outlet for his music. the ladonia ep - named after a disputed micro-nation in southern sweden - is agrario s second missive for the imprint, and features a particularly luscious, amospheric dancefloor roller named after the state s most famous landmark, a sculpture called -nimis-. arguably even better is -i played that track already , a dusty, detroit style deep house cut blessed with a bold cowbell line, sustained chords, and a nagging vocal hook. rick wade provides a deliciously deep and soulful interpretation of that track, while the softly jazzy, broken-house track -lesboa- is also worth a listen.

the grooves of thomas white and pete williams aka natural rhythm, have been a mainstay in the sets of robsoul boss phil weeks for more than a decade. today he pays ‘tribute’ with a special re-release of some of his favourites. born in a garage in the late 90’s, natural rhythm was a meeting of passionate musical minds. working together the pair sought to create their own style and sound, influenced by the tracks they were regularly spinning in their own dj sets across the country. creative sampling and their own raw beats, together with live instrumentation and regular guest vocalists, saw natural rhythm create a strong catalogue that, as we know, are still getting played today. with three albums and over 35 ep/single releases to their name, there more than enough music for label boss weeks to select from for the tribute ep. a tough job? of course. however, phil went straight for the four that never leave his box. leading the ep are the sun-drenched vocal vibes of ‘something big’, the title track of natural rhythm’s 1999 release on under the counter. our a2 is the lead track from 2001’s last call at the martini ranch ep, ‘chicago nights’, with its quaking bassline and disco dalliance. on the flip we’re treated to a choice selection from natural rhythm’s 1999 double album contrast in nature. first up with its celestial chimes and thumping kick is ‘smoldering island’, taken from the original part 1. closing the tribute release and taken from part 2 is the devilishly funky and suitably titled feelgood jam ‘energized’. we definitely are!

third release of dancing like quagmire, italian white label (vinyl only) born to make you dance shouting “giggity giggity go”!!! mini-album with five tracks deeply rooted in 20th century russian culture in which neotnas is showing his poetic music style wandering between rough drum patterns, old dusty samples (hard to dig for sure) and hypnotics saxophone melodies. a-side starts with dreamy downtempo intro elin, followed by crispy broken rhythms of colourful tension and closes with breezy and fluffy don’t rush with dubjazz. b-side contains mighty deep house trip morning way, and outro come, where the main character is undoubtedly ivan pona’s magic sax which created an illusory atmosphere over neotnas’s soul beat.

eyetone returns with 005 which deviates away from the exploratory vibes probed in the previous release which was well received and instead shifts right back with intent for the dance floor. an ep which is very much a greek affair, featuring two deep, dubby cuts from la based greek producer maheras and a special extended techno piece by newcomer to the scene artemis soy. maheras sound spits a hybrid of sounds that range from dark techno, groovy disco and soulful house. expanding his personal style by working under new aliases with talented vocalists and collaborating in projects such as cazion and plastic love, maheras continues to explore the vast sphere of electronic music without any limits.

london’s 22a follow up their sell-out tenderlonious / al dobson jr split ep with nine more exclusives from henry wu and jeen bassa. originally limited to just 100 copies, this has become a hugely sought after 12”!
henry wu applies jazz infused hip-hop sensibilities to these synth-boogie, and deep house tracks. this was wu’s debut release and set the platform for further massive releases on eglo and rhythm section. on the flip jeen bassa goes in deep with percussive house infused afro-beats laden with jazzy hip hop rhythms. haling from a family of talented musicians (mo kolours and reginald omas mamode iv) he has since gone on to similarly large releases, including last years sterling time waves ep on 22a.

inspired by many of the industry’s pioneers, such as, ricardo villalobos, masomenos, marc antona, rhadoo, seuil, cabanne, petre inspirescu and danny tenaglia, to name but a few, counrad has been strongly influenced by deep and meaningful techno, since he began his plight in the industry. music has always been at the forefront, for this italian dj/producer , and the inwave and counrad series labels boss relishes the challenge of crafting techno that reveals itself gradually to the more discerning listener, fusing a multitude of grooves from contrasting musical styles, with a combination of sexy rhythms, subtle textures and emotive melodies. in this first release for metroline limited, counrad showcases the full spectrum of his versatile production skills. the title track underwater is a full on 15 minutes epic chunky minimal monster that just keeps on building. this amazing piece of work takes the listener on a journey that starts with hypnotic minimalism and finishes with some intricate trippy techno. on the flipside you can find the dark and percussive peak time tech-house grooves of particle collsisions and some uber-cool modern machine funk minimalism in the shape of the closing track synapse.
