what an absolute stormer, for those of you who have never heard this record, get ready to be blown away. initially out in 1992 inner citys pennies from heaven was just the most perfect house anthem, i think it was kevins tunnel mix which was the killer mix, here it has been strung out just a little by the slow to speak people. all the crucial elements are still there, amazing vocal, the most uplifting of pianos, ridiculously simple yet deadly bassline and fantastic crisp garage beats. really they dont get much better than this, watch em go on nye when you drop this. awesome!

pablo mandelbrot claims to be from bar harbor, maine on the north-eastern coast of the u.s.a. when asked about his upbringing he mentions various occupations including sardine canner and quota negotiator as well as hinting at some dark years spent working in the aqua-culture industry. about his music he says little, summing up his productions with the cryptic declaration: >disco is a deep sea<. we are not entirely sure where or when the two tracks on this 12inch were recorded and the only information from mandelbrot himself is that he has sometimes collaborated with the late conny plankton (who also engineered these two tracks), a legendary figure of the maine/nova scotia electronic music scene. pablo also insists that both tracks are >under exclusive license from lob-starr records<, although we have never heard of this label and their representatives have yet to contact us. we hope you enjoy these two slices of hypnoboogie disco, smoked, cured and de-boned for your convenience.

in the world of factory presets, default settings and copy-paste ethics, there are few artists that actually care to make a difference. and -who told you that?-, 29th release on warsaw recognition label, is certainly a voice to be heard. the title track is another subtle narrative from label boss jacek sienkiewicz. eerie chord and a solid, damp beat from the start are underpinned by sherds of dialogue - snippets of words and laughter keep coming back in the mix, providing some sort of uneasy commentary towards todays minimal house formula. but at some point the voices disappear - and then the tracks gently goes somewhere outside the boundaries of todays club music, somewhere otherworldly. this shift, albeit amazingly subtle, is a leap towards music free of any defined context, far beyond dancefloor and definitely original. if this sneak peak into the possible futures of manmachine induced visions is too much to handle, there is still the b-side of this release. two tracks here - both clocking around mere 5 minutes - are prime exercises in compact, clever, tight and efficient club tools. uplifting -cobalt drive- is bound to to be quoted and reworked into many forms of a late-night burner. patefon, on the other hand, is a peak-time stormer with its stuttering chords and moody samples, supposedly picked from some vintage shellac discs

just who are the >agents of time< in the title of mathew jonsons debut solo album? is it a reference to futurism, or to the here and now? is it us, are we them?

steve summers is back with his third ep, this time around for greeces echovolt label. summers continues to play with his main inspirations, the energy and grit of hardy tape edits, melodies of larry heard, and deep bass tones of william s. this four track ep manages to capture a feeling of experimentation and authenticity thats often missing in modern dance music. strong 12 with timeless chicago house tracks! very cool!

here comes edwards follow-up ep. this time he goes a slightly deeper and more direct. it might be the purest music we ve ever heard from the berlin-based producer. all the crazy clubgigs are manifested into hi music now. of course still with the classical edward style somewhere between dark minimal and trancy deephouse aesthetics. >bush of crows< is somewhat of a siginature edward track. but a very rough one this time. with a comfortable paranoia, this track unfolds itself into a little peak time extravaganza. on the flip, he cools everything down with a warm house tune called >the ghetto< and he adds a certain >blockparty romantic< to it... b2. is once again one of those more minimal edward tracks were he masters to be on point with just the core essence o sounds. edward remains a real romantic for sure...

hope in bags? no way, but rather thoughts on vinyl! true to enliven musics credo, not to program tools but to bring feelings back to the dancefloor, this new release is as spheric and deep emotional as a tech-house-funk-jazz-track could be. packed with a ribbon loop, bound by sven tasnadi, the >envelope of hope< is conveyed. the recipient launches a hearing pleasure on a special level, either heard in a sunny morning, beginning a lovely day or in the evening prospecting a lovely party, this track sets you in the right mood to experience all things with a quite positive elegance. as always, every part of the body is pleased but most of all the legs and the heart.

after the great mojuba g.o.d.2 by chez damier it is time for some oracy action, its been a while since we heard from the creator of such classics as family day and mind dance. but now after doing a very fine remix for balance alliance in the meantime, he is back in full effect. the a-side bass mood is featuring a disco break styled beat combined with a sick acid bassline à a special track for that special moment on the floor! the b-side with funk advice is cooling things a little down, but in a way only a mojuba record can do it - some serious deepness is waiting for you!

anybody never heard of moullinex? we can t imagine. blogs, music mags and dj s have been getting mad about the digitalfunk of luis clara gomes - better known as moullinex. and all this with only one official release! (breakchops ep 2009). the remix for two door cinema club (kitsune) has been a real club hit and his sebastien tellier remix was the one that had been most featured on playlists (along with a–trak s remix). yes: the remix for cut copy on modular was a bomb, too and his telonius remix is currently playlisted all around. guess that s the reason why so many labels have been chasing moullinex to sign on them. some have been really pushing him hard to join their roster, but luis preferred to stay with his munich buddies at gomma. and so now it is sure: this new moullinex ep is only the beginning of a whole series for gomma records.

the italian giussepe tuccillo who now lives in ibiza still remembers when as a child he heard patty pravo singing at the san remo festival. the impression made on him by the italian diva was so great that he decided to dedicate a tribute to her most important song, la bambola, by making a remix using the original parts of the original recording.

first gimme! gimme! release featuring can t live without your love by tamiko jones and the super rare cosmic classic this man by phill & friends band. “can’t live without your love” was popularised by david mancuso s loft cd/lp. originally released in 1979, it’s considered a huge influence as an electronic-disco record and is a massive chicago favourite. this record has been heavily sought after for some time and played by larry levan, ron hardy, gene hunt, frankie knuckles, …… „this man“ was a huge track with dj baldelli at cosmic when it was released in 1980 and it has been top of many collectors wants lists for a long time. very rare and very expensive, this sleazy downtempo rock/dub disco cut really is one of those extraordinary once heard never forgotten tracks.

back in 1998 this was probably just about the wrongest record you had ever heard … and it has to be said that not much has changed. forshaw has a knack of turning out ridiculously hard and mangled electro and techno tracks – but still managing to make them sound >poppy<. sometimes, as in the case of rockford for example, it is because he uses well recognisable (but unexpected) samples. but more often it is just because he manages to make tunes (no matter how hard) that make you stop gurning and start smiling.

this is the 11th release from sui generiz (division of absolut freak records), a special one marking a new phase of the portuguese label. andy book comes with a very deep track with beautiful chords, vocal works and melodic sounds, which give a nice and smooth trip called >if you tried<. the outstanding and famous french producer alexkid - already signed on the best labels such as f communications, rekids or cadenza - offers a super interesting and cleverly made remix. brilliant minimalist work pushing the limits of the original mix even further. then, the finnish producer zentex, well-known for his works on traum, kickboxer or resopal, is back on sui generiz (after having signed the first reference called >blue<) with a stunning version. deep, solid and driving remix. just listen! last but not least, johnwaynes - the exciting duo coming from the same land as the label - brings some organic beats and a bright piano for a beautiful remix, not less sui generis work than they use to do. their very unique sound, already heard on compost, brique rouge or bloop, will make you dance all long.
