after a run of new signings in 2016 - aus music kick of 2017 with something a little bit different. to inaugurate the new year they welcome in catz n dogz for three separate interpretations of classic records from the aus music archives. cherry picked from the vast back catalogue are tracks from bicep, geeeman and george fitzgerald all of which are given a rough, smoke treatment from the pets recordings owners. kicking things off is the remix of geemans wanna go bang he title track from his punchy 12-inch from 2015 that now sees a driving and percussive reworking. bicep the game is next in line a track from the irish duos first solo outing on aus back in 2013. soft, overlapping chords are propelled by snapping drums and multiple melodic lines that build an allaying palette the remix of george fitzgeralds hindsight then caps things off as more frazzled drums propel a stuttering vocal line and a warped synth pattern. continuing to keep things fresh - aus look ahead to another year of new signings and surprises and kick off here with a reminder of the solid foundation that has come before it

originally founded by kisk back in 2009 apparel music set out to offer something truly singular in focusing their musical output predominately on jazz whilst venturing into its integration across the landscape of electronic music at the time.with a zealous release schedule, they racked up a healthy collection of eps between 2010-2015 from artists such as delano smith, scsi-9, sarp yilmaz and the label owner himself amongst many others. now after a year-long hiatus, the label makes a return with a slick 4-track va that fans both old and new will relish. strictly limited to a pressing of 200 on 180 grams of wax, their re-launch brings with it a jazz-suffused 4-track record featuring voyeur, ivano tetelepta & eugeÌne latumeten, kisk and kerem akdag. voyeurs swinging for theo kicks things off with organic, brushed drums and a walking bass line set off to a tight, swaying rhythm. glassy rhodes keys bleed into the mix ahead of piano stabs and 909 hats that propel progress when combined with a thickened low-end. ivano tetelepta & eugeine latumeten follow up with je suis reconnaissant a bass-heavy groove that lays soulful vocal samples over filtered piano chords and loose-limbed hat patterns. kisks just u then drives a crackly drum loop through distant, flexing synth tones. arresting vocal samples then take the foreground in a rich, smokey mix before istanbuls kerem akdags closes up the package. akin to the styles of producers such as henry wu and max graef, akdags friend melds playful drum patterns with thick chord stabs and smooth vocal lines that wrap up a stellar return for apparel music.

this is a label that i have been meaning to start for years. however, with a possible twist of fate, it is the right time and the perfect body of music to be able to commit to vinyl. these are records that i am honoured to own and play out. a new label from bristol based artist, thrilogy (also known as lee pattison who previously recorded as deepgroove (rekids, cocoon, klang elektronik, junior boys own). expect -organic dusty sampling deep house and techno from bristol artists and friends further afield- and hand-drawn artwork by local artist anna higgie. thrilogy has previously recorded on wolf music, futureboogie and om records and look forward to an ep on omena with an exciting man power remix. also, ishmael finishes the year on a high, his debut album sometime in space (on church records) showcased the multi-instrumentalist s jazzy house cuts alongside peak time techno and chilling ambient pieces. since then ishmael has been touring his live show, as well as releasing some of the most inventive house music to come out of the uk.

safer at night returns late january 2017 with the vinyl only release of the deep end , featuring two original curses cuts and remixes from ian blevins and holy ghost! safer at night founder curses launched the label back in 2014 and it has since gone to play host to material from eli esobar, walker & royce, jagerverb and of course the label founder himself. here we see curses re-release his composition the deep end marking the ten-year anniversary of its former releases on institutes in 2007, while enlisting ian blevins and holy ghost! on remix duties and stirring in a new original of his own as well. the original mix of the deep end takes the lead and offers a chance to revisit the decade old curses cut fuelled by wandering bass and lead guitar licks, dropped-tempo crunchy rhythms and murky piano chords all instilled with a gritty new york electro feel. holy ghost! then rework the original with the funk-laden feel via bright chord sequences, elongated delay swells and an amalgamation of 80 s synth leads, hooky bass lines and sporadic vocal lines. on the flip ian blevins offers up his interpretation of in shadows employing stuttering vocal hits, choppy arpeggios and droning bass leads to create an emotive and hypnotic number before curses original mix of in shadows closes on a cinematic vibe with an 80 s sci-fi soundtrack feel to perfectly conclude this vinyl only 10 year celebration.

2016 has been a very fruitful year for krill music. the habitat series places focus on shedding light on budding new talents and seasoned veterans alike through solitary tracks. the year kicked off with an ep from those that fall into the latter category - those of whom need little introduction, in stanislav tolkachev, i/y, +platfform and stefan vincent. throughout the course of the year, we then saw the likes of matrixxman, ilario alicante and mental resonance contribute to the now infamous concatenation.

welcoming back our early label recrute maoupa mazzocchetti delivering the long-awaited follow-up to both his debut releases on unknown precept. emerging back in 2014 to then become an esteemed music maker in the inner-circles of the underground community, the brussels based sound artisan quickly established himself as a complete artist made of a peculiar and inexhaustible surge of inspiration -- always making sure to stay off the beaten paths while exploring the nooks and crannies of his disturbed and facetious mindset throughout his latest productions.

the album a little comedy, a little drama by dusty baron is the result of collaboration of moldavian fellows eugen kara, ivan slivka and dima scripnic. this collaboration has been lasting in the course of 2016, with miscellaneous recordings at home studios, including moldavian radio and television studio. inspired by french and italian psychedelic electronic music of 60s and 70s, cartoons and the comedian genre of absurd, the trio tried to incarnate their vision of the space into a lp comprising 13 tracks. vintage synthesiser lines and classic drum machines create a hugely entertaining blend intoxicated with universal love. now and then you trace the combinations of techno rhythms rushing into the futuristic vertical, and sometimes the sound transforms into a blend of absolute and exotically influenced reverie.

following last years dangerously good depatterning lp, ipman returns to tectonic to deliver his latest instalment in bass-driven technoid mutations. constrict jumps straight into the deep end at 140bpm, diving head first into pulsing waves of warping, dynamic synth layers swimming back up to the surface for air. as the intro build peaks, the track effortlessly strikes when the bass drops in, charging the techno synth interplay with a sort of 3/4-step type rhythm shaping the movements. impeccable dance floor music that sits in an undefined zone between the worlds of techno, dubstep and somewhere yet defined. flip then for running man, which sees a sharp drop in tempo, bringing the speed down to 120bpm but maintaining the energetic build of constrict. starting from an almost empty space, running man takes an upward momentum, building and layering percussion and sonic textures as the heat of the chase takes full effect. dark and deadly, this is one for fans of sci-fi sonics and dread vibrations.

ike is no stranger to finale sessions at all with his release under the guise innerspace halflife with fellow producer hakim murphy, this time he flies solo under his real name ike release and we are proud to have him on board with this 10 inch release. so let s get to the music with the first cut called tangerines m it takes you for a ride with its rawness and it s thick pads and morphing keys and its wicked bassline. then we have track two called tungstun m we have another floor stomper with this one with its filtered pads and in and out synths just drooling with rawness. this i will say this is a perfect fit for finale select series

reboot takes another slice from his recent album �alive� out for a walk. this time it�s �are you losing my mind?�. first we�re treated to the vinyl version full of everything we loved from the original. a stripped down tech house beat sprinkled with a might vocal hymn and plenty of groove. then ricardo takes over the track with his own very particular style. he�s made two distinct versions, �hauswiedermischung� is first. as he�s known to do, villalobos created a kind of chaos in which the track lives without ever losing the groove and with plenty of little surprises to discover throughout. next is ricardo�s twenty four minute �losing my miles� remix, and here is where he really loosens the grip on the track and lets it wander in and out of coherence, taking it and us along for a special ride that only ricardo can deliver. from beginning to end, you don�t know what to expect but you know it when it comes. get it, press play, and lose your mind.

next up creme organization is a return by regular artist lake haze. following his natural insight ep earlier in the year comes intergalactic communicationz, four more fresh tracks of acid, techno and electro that is brilliantly evocative. the portuguese artist known as goncalo salgado also please son labels like unknown to the unknown and is a real hardware master. at the gates ov futron is a turbulent lack track with zipping acid and a cacophony of percussion that is visceral as well as cinematic. drexciyan aquarium is, as the name suggest, an aqueous electro track that slithers and slides through an expansive underwater world. poseidon s dream then offers a more rugged electro groove that is backed by heavenly pads and a real sense of loss in the synths. last of all, intergalactic communication closes out this far travelling and intergalactic ep with a sci-fi deep house track that is filled with light, 909s and a sense that the end of the world is coming.

eshu records hits release number ten with a new ep from the in-house production collective made up of jocelyn abell, ivano tetelepta and daniel lekatompessy. fraktur features six tracks of stripped back house and techno that are all atmospheric and heady. opener winter track is a smooth and rolling dub techno number that is grainy and economical yet hugely absorbing thanks to its circling synth details and woody drums. creating moods is even more expansive and spacious, with gently swirling pads enveloping a soft, broken rubber kick drum. the title track is another expertly distilled, dry and heady groove with its frayed edges and warm analogue feel, then hello really flips the script with over driven jeff mills kicks and intergalactic synths bring a spooky sci-fi feel to proceedings. yorubaland is then a cosmic ambient interlude with fax tones bleeping and blipping as lazy pads smear out in the background and last of all core comes on strong with more quick and slick intergalactic techno carrying you off to some distant planet. this is another faultless ep from this fine dutch collective. pressed on 180 grams vinyl.

creme organization s jericho one label continues to set a fine agenda with its fifth ep, this time from dj plant texture aka dona basile, who also releases as dona and given. this is only his second ep under this alias, and is one that again marries breakbeats, techno and electro into electrifying new forms. things kick off with maybe sometimes , three minutes of brutal old school rave. maybe sometimes (2_3 psymono mix) is then a heavily filtered and stripped back version of the same tune that is brilliantly weird and otherworldly. lello from sda then picks up the pace once more with reversed stabs, slamming drums and rubbery bass all cut up with yelping vocals and dusty breaks that take you right back to the early 90s. on the flip, gargantuans is on a deeper and more trippy old school flex with bright pads and gurgling bass taking you higher, then cyclone (tribute to the 90 s) is just that with its frenzied drums, filters and euphoric breakdowns all run through with street fighter samples. d_one then ends the trip with a bit of ambient electronics, with odd sine waves and sharp sound designs placing you in an unhinged world.

the ballroom basement of a hotel. the place for jack nicholsons mean encounter with a ghost or possibly the place for a cocaine laden sexual encounter with part of the media agency elite. the label worked there. and so did pablo. buying talent, slinging drinks, just a couple sneering punk kids looking towards a completely different berlin future. there was a time when rough and tumble crossed paths with diamonds. maybe it created diamonds in the rough? pablo always sent the label demos before the label was a label and could do something with them. pablo has had a string of successes since then (too numerous to point out) and the label became a label. became uncaged. time to let this relationship out of the cage. it is a long way from that ballroom basement, now time to do some thrusting, propelled, grinding, noisy, sonic shit together. house music? is it really? just in case you forgot that no one is all grim guts and clenched teeth, that wild abandon sometimes comes in the form of an ecstatic beach dance, nick höppner comes around and forces you to go out to hasenheide park for a picnic and to pick up a bag of dirt weed. >so fucking buy it<

claudja barry s cult -love for the sake of love- gets mike maurro s magic remix treatment for the 7th release on brookside records. this is no ordinary edit or reworking though, mike got his hands on the actual physical master tapes and turned in a refreshed, original mix of this sleazed out downtempo monster. well known by underground disco aficionados by it s inclusion on dj harvey s earth shattering and legendary -sarcastic study masters- mix cd from 2001 this mid 70 s tom moulton mixed number came out on salsoul and caused quite a stir. this new mix really breathes new life into this stone cold classic, mike utilises lots of alternative takes, vocal vamps and instrumentation from the original sessions giving us a version that s never been heard before! a completely new, original mix. if that doesn t get all you disco fiends excited then something is seriously wrong! on the b-side mike takes claudia s -sweet dynamite- into a new realm too, again using the master tapes to full effect to create a new, refreshed version of one of her more popular jams, a raucous, slamming club cut. also released in 1976 and mixed again by tom moulton, mike maurro s version extends everything in just the right way! his rearrangements and remixes are always respectfully executed and it s clear that mike understands and feels the tracks he works on. again, another cult disco cut reworked beautifully for 2016, essential stuff for all lovers of this kind of music, this release is simply unmissable. the record comes in a full colour picture sleeve and these remixes are exclusive to this release and are fully, 100% legit, licensed and sanctioned by all relevant rights holders. simply put, another set of essential mixes from a modern day master! file under - *essential disco*

italian producer reekee has laid down soulful grooves for roots underground and wrong notes over the past year, and now he surfaces once again with this sumptuous turn for uzuri. bal-era is the perfect lead track, cultivating a classic deep house mood with passionate keys and synth lines, setting the scene for glenn underground to swoop in for an invigorating remix rich with saxophone goodness. black tobacco on the flip is a more subdued affair, but no less refined in its use of piano at the forefront of the mix, and then quartal ramps up the synth work without losing that infectious, soulful mood.

having come to light on optimo music, the junto club now kick off the snap crackle & pop label with a new single that builds on their promising reputation. shiviana is a perfect encapsulation of what the band are about, channelling all kinds of wave styles into their instruments but still coming off sounding contemporary and seductive at once. khidja comes on board to remix the track, turning it into an acidic burner with a heavy dose of bombast thrown in. ikiryo presents a more post punk side to the junto club sound, which smagghe & cross then buff up into a crafty electro number for the dancers.

up first is get enough, seven minutes of seductive techno that has an almost machine-gun like disco synth firing across the groove. it is a rumbling peak time track with real force and energy that will bring any floor to life. the title track, toleranz, is a gritty and stripped back basement cut with dry hits and burrowing acid bass that takes you deep into the night. cobra then proves this pair have real breadth in the studio and is a barrel chested house cut with more big hits, rib rattling bass and incendiary techno hi hats that really get you on your toes. remixing are the tech duo of pleasurekraft, whose releases on octopus and mood records have won them plenty of dj and dancing fans. they layer in some dark melodies to sq80 and build it steadily before allowing the militant drums and crisp snares to explode and drive you and the whole club forwards.

one records continue their quest for the most up-to-the-minute house and tech-house tones, this time calling on bobby o donnell to step up to the plate with his groovesome wares. -e211- is a huge track, using swooping pads and a classic diva vocal lick to devastating effect - it s hard to imagine anyone resisting the emotional draw of this melancholic jam. -e131- meanwhile is a more cheeky affair, ramping up the funky drum programming and using a more minimal palette of sounds for decoration. john dimas then steps up to remix -e211- and turns it into a hard-bopping workout powered by a mean-tempered snare.

c powers was raised in atlanta, georgia, usa. he lives in savannah, georgia. he is resident dj for performance art drag collective house of gunt. he has also been resident dj at clubnights cape fear in savannah, hunger in atlanta and no pain in pop in london. he works in a library and is cat dad to peppers, bucchi, and baby d. his releases include the oysters ep for proper trax in 2015 and the up neck ep for cgi records in 2014. he produced the single crow for the group 18+ (from their album trust) as well as songs on their album collect. fitness check shows c powers s experience as a dj as well as his growth as a producer. from the drum programs to the arrangements, it s obvious that the ep was written and produced by someone who can work a dancefloor. on wysh, which he says is an exit reaction to morose and morbid- techno, subliminal speech and warped vocal stabs transition from centered to alert. on fresco he dices and scatters a song over loops of itself, a technique he calls -a grey area between sampling and editing,i break it up into bits, resequence that shit then stuff that shit back into the track.js may get even more service from the wysh key beats and fresco beatapella versions, which give jacking rhythm tracks and sub-bass extra room to do their thing. the heavily dubbed ask less kick beats, lighter on drums but with a booming bassline, may prove useful as a set-opener or closer. the ep has been mastered for club play by helmut erler at dubplates & mastering, berlin.

local nyc boy eli escobar makes better than good on his debut release for rnt with a 4-tracker of secret heat from his personal arsenal! the ep bursts out of the gate with bullfight of love, blazes through the percussion heavy everybody, hits full stride with the reworked paradise garage staple the music, then lets us down nice and easy with seven eleven. pay your fare and take a ride on the nyc underground!

tomoki tamura s holic trax label has been nurturing tuccillo among its many regular artists over the years, and now the italian wonderkid returns with another distinctive run of jams from the wild side of deep house. there s a psychedelic quality to the rich textures that vibrate throughout -g-capsule-, while -pierrot- keeps things lean and limber with some minimal percussion and a cheeky bassline that will work wonders in the mix. -playhead- takes old skool new york house into a modernist mindset, and then -los amigos- finishes off in a more sensual celebration of unconventional house music.

back in the days at the west-saxon highlands there was a missile, which marked the starting point. when credit 00 saw the legendary rocket rise on tetris� final screen, it was the first time he became aware of electronic music at all. since then it actually hasn�t changed that much. he keeps pushing that buttons that belong to the impressive pool of music machines towered up next to his bed. after moving to dresden in 2000 to study fine arts, his passion for synthesizers and drum machines got nurtured through visits of dresden�s club-canalisation. he quickly made himself a name as a dj, who is just doing his own thing and got popular for that reason. as a part of the idealfun-crew he started hosting parties always in the twilight zone between legal and illegal. this led to �robo dance�, dresden�s only and (also for some other reasons) best electro club night featuring guests like dmx krew, luke eargoogle or imatran voima. the track credit made with randy barracuda of imatran voima has probably been created some time after the show. apparently, randy was not in good shape anymore and so �lebensraum� unmistakably bears credit�s hallmarks. for his own music he�s inspired by cannibal movies, number theory and birds. still, his music is not easy to pigeonhole. after all, he loves synth wave, electro, afro, kraut, kosmische, disco, italo, miami bass and other proto stuff � a lot of machine music.
