as apple pips continues to explore its opening mantra of echo, depth, swing and bass within the duplicitous realms of modern electronica, it welcomes to the fold two long-standing friends of the label and in turn sheds light on their own fresh avenues within house music. you might already know lrusse as id or behling, commonly found kicking up the dust alongside sam baobinga simpson in all manner of styles and tempos, while bleecker has an accomplished back-story in dubstep as wedge & through his own if symptoms persist imprint. in their new venture both producers fuse their dancefloor inclinations with more searching, experimental textures and tones, placing crafty sound design on a level pegging with the more immediate tropes of groove and presence.

gravetemple was formed in 2006 as a side-project of the band sunn o))) by oren ambarchi, stephen o malley and attila csihar. the group formed initially to tour in israel summer 06, creating several recordings which eventually became the holy down album, which was released on southern lord recordings in 2007. at the time of the israel tour, the lebanon war started and was in action. in summer 08 the trio reformed together with the addition of australian drummer matt skitz sanders for a short european tour culminating at a headlining performance at supersonic festival in birmingham. in late 2009 the original trio reconvened for a special one-off concert at londons institute of contemporary arts. april 2013 marks the first set of live action since that period, and a new chapter in the ongoing system of the related network.
ambient/ruin was created with the 2008 quartet, elements of tape collage, concrete, field recordings blend within a strong geographically diverse (parts were recorded in japan, australia, paris and israel) suite of heavy minimalist/maximalist music, black/death metal and drone. the culmination of these efforts become the music, literally, of sadistik exekution meeting phill niblock.

in the fourth chapter of shaded records denizo continues his journey through the maze of sounds and moods where images and textures get distorted by surrounding architecture. ancient window of the hermitage gives us entrance into the space of 4 stories. edenic dub immerses us within the atmosphere of rolling chords and melancholic melody leads further with heavy roar.

nick lapiens debut release as metropolis garnered little attention when it materialized last year. a skeptical yet dedicated network of underground heads built up a subterranean buzz that has yet to spread into the daylight. that initial transmission was thick with the raw analogue flavors that have become ever-present in dance floor fare recently—but his is a sound that is dedicated to the emotive, narrative aspects of electronic music rather than simple fetishization or passing curiosity in the days of yore. this, his second release as metropolis, shows a more focused and patient hand at work. the titular track on the a side is a deep, psychedelic groover. melodies, textures and sequences undulate and intertwine within a lightless atmosphere guided by lapien with optimum restraint. equally pensive and gorgeous, the flood serves as a machine’s beat-less foil on the reverse. made up of little more than feedback and two slow, echo laden arpeggiated sequences, this is reminiscent of jean michel jarre’s more sinister moments: a brilliant paradox of economy and indulgence. expect to hear more from lapien here at sequencias. he has many more dark corners left unexplored.

a surreal spark of darkness slowly awakens a monstrous tune that becomes more radical by the second. with soundscapes taking serious shapes, the emotion actually comes from deep within: pointing out to infinity. desolate is a hazardous mixture of sick, twisted growls taking extremely unique forms, sub-driven resonating basslines and spacious soundscapes, which bound you to darkness instantly. as the intriguing second part of desolate flows through the mind and soul, no listener is left unharmed as it sweeps you away from reality. with further developed harsh, sharp percussive elements and frightening samples to accentuate this cold production, desolation will become a step closer each and every time you lose control.

our second release of 2013 comes from lovers rights, the glasgow based-trio featuring members of golden teacher, silk cut & dam mantle. on this, their debut release for high sheen, they have laid down 4 killer house cuts spawned from improvisation heavy, free flowing electronic jams and completed with painstaking attention to detail. from the raw, rolling subs of urn to the complex multi textured synth patterns of mt. florida, each track has its own individual identity all the while working together within the cohesive whole of the ep. this is electronic dance music built with dancefloor freakouts in mind and we absolutely love it. the 12 inch comes packaged in a twice hand screen printed, roughcast sleeve, designed by sam bellacosa.

venezuelan-born miguel toro is an impulse generator: a versatile drummer and percussionist. rhythm is his motor, but rhythm here does not just denote a motion within a certain beat. rather it means a fundamental, ever changing pulse, vibration, resonance. inspired by aesthetic forms as intense and diverse as the jungle of sounds ascending from his royal dust, miguel toro succeeds in giving them an extraordinary voice.

for our third release, we are joining forces with bristol stalwart - kowton - finding the link between two genres that are very close to our hearts - grime & techno. built as an ode to ruff sqwads raw 2 da core, kowton is able to build up and take down the rough and rugged aesthetic that is found within both genres in just over 5 minutes. on the flip, taking on the original is blawan and pariahs collaborative project - karenn (sheworksthelongnights). keeping true to the spirit of uk techno, they manage to translate the raw and grimey quality of the original through a heap of analogue gear, all in one take.

little do people know that coober pedy is an opal rich town buried deep within the red and arid outback of south australia. lewie day (aka tornado wallace) and tom moore may be from melbourne, but the duo make up the coober pedy university band, coining the term krautback to describe this moon plain ep. drawing upon italo synths and mid-tempo balearica as inspiration, the first release comes in 10 form via soft rocks kinfolk label. the reverb washed australian crooner chet faker appears on the title track moon plain alongside heavy struck piano chords, while sentenced beyond the seas is a flow of groggy atmospheres and downtempo beats. oblong is the the eps stand out italo track with short bass arpeggios a highlight, while soft rocks acperience mix of moon plain takes on an acidic and space western theme.

teng launched in 2012 with akrasounds vol.1 & 2 by label head nick woolfson under his akra guise. picking up support along the way from the likes of chicago damn, delano smith, will saul, 6th borough project and dj deep. this stands testament to the high quality and attention to detail instilled in the label from its initial movement. here the label steams in with more solid material to put it on the map with a phenomenal package from clone / rush hour artist neville watson, whos trippy, analogue, acidic house cuts have earned him a highly praised reputation within the underground.

kokeshi chooses rising star of deep dubstep, compa for the follow-up to 2012s epic kompilation cd and sampler. what can be seen from compa on kokeshi is the atmospheric qualities of his music both within the realm of dubstep and well outside of it. the unexpected a side is a beatless beauty, the perfect intro tune, whilst the aa side is the essential meditative subby dancefloor tune that will keep the speakers booming.

chris page is one of the rising talents within the london techno scene. having djed since the early 00s, productions followed suit and slowly but surely, a solid back catalogue of tracks has been created.

albinos has now been meaning to open communication channels with the baka pigmy tribe for quite some time, sadly to mixed results… this indeed represents a rather difficult task considering their take on the devil is a tall white man graced with white hair and red eyes! even though the baka people is a peaceful one, the legend goes that if they were to catch that albino devil, they would gut its organs out and turn those into an aphrodisiac concoction. strangely enough, albinos believes that his music just might be the best language to turn those antagonistic feelings into a communion, he even dreams of performing his tunes to the whole tribe, deep within the jungle, surrounded with exotic birds and the most hungry kind of predators! somewhat at times on the verge of irony, his music definitively trades with sketchy, raw and deep emotions, always sincere in the making: always a few steps away from the pre-shaped house and techno idioms, he offers his very own take on dance music, a most peculiar one. solely using old cheap hardware and an antique atari, the tracks at hand are one-take live performances, brutal incarnations of albinos simple virgin vision. as the quest for the baka people goes on, the antinote team is proud to help shed light on the journey of this obscure producer hailing from the grand north.

one more heavy hitter on credo, and this time we could even say two tracks that form an ep as strond as the so far most sold credo-release from 2007 - bullet in your heart. the name tells already some connection to australia and indeed the basic idea came up during alex tour down under in fall 2012 where he played three cities within three days and a total of 9h playtime for which he travelled 64h in total. sydney acid is the main track of the ep, no doubt and hard to describe. it is a pure, driven technotrack with a fierce, no blubby, but very powerful acid bassline aiming at riots on the dancefloor. melbourne dub tells exactly what the track is all about and by the way featuring the sound of the local traffic lights that made alex thinking about creating some tracks related to it.

a.paul strikes again with the release of his mighty the sign of times album. dark industrial techno as he is known for. pounding beats, that keep on building to the ultimate dancefloor. this will set your dancefloor on fire within minutes. a must have for all serious techno djs.

after all efforts were put into jacob korns debut album during summer 2012 uncanny valley strikes back with namesake jacob stoy and his very first solo ep after his s51 for the uv010-compilation. everything starts with redensart, a sunny piece of music with a sneaky bassline and easy synth pads that come across like a warm rain shower: its house in the end but feels like so much more. hauswart is an impressive example of how one can create a whole atmosphere of sound within two minutes. its short but feels so comfortable that you really like it to go on and on forever. start is maybe the most conventional deep house track on the ep and seduces with catchy synth chords and thrilling drums. finally gegenwart brings things to a jazzy end with tipsy synths and tripping percussions. the artwork comes from none other than jacobs father olaf stoy, who is a painter, lyricist and porcelain designer still working in jacobs hometown rabenau near dresden.

a romanian collective of 3 different artist. each track based around a funk within each bassline. all inviting the listener to the dance floor. atlantziiduo comes from bucharest with a strong base around natural drums & percussions. their track >antilopa< a warm bass that brings out the groove as the gentle ambient pad drifts across drops of wood blocks and open hats egal 3 is no stranger having been on the tongues and tables of many clubs the past 2 years. this young addition the yimuzik family grimes out >remaster< for b1. funky bass hook grabs the listener building up to the piano drop. melody overlaps snare rolls as the blessing vocal sample gives praise. derek, another stallion to yimuzik stable, spices things up with >skjape<on b2. a storm of rhythm with a rounder bass and touch of rawness.

so you didnt get that last firecracker that came in an incredible sleeve and was limited to 45 copies? well now you and the other 99% of humanity can at least own the music contained within it with this regular re-release, and to be honest although the sleeve isnt hand-weaved by a peruvian tribe centuries known for their mastery of textile craft, the one yer getting here is pretty goddamn sweet. bringing together calypso rhythms and bernie worrell-does-acid lines, fudge fingas >untytled< is an exemplary example of why everyone is in admiration of the geezer, and that is because he can actually make actual music, with compositions and melody and all that. excuse the lofty jargon. linkwood bring equal heat in the form of >secret value<, but guess what? fudge fingas has gone and blessed it with the refreshing audio equivalent of yer girlfriends mint & tea tree shower gel, adding liquid bass and lush keys. the fingas finishes off the e.p with one of his most interesting tracks to date >minus 616<, a dense, immersive piano piece that proves that getting this e.p out to a wider audience was just simply a righteous and necessary move. take that skinny tie off, wrap it round yer arm and mainline that uncut funk, baby.
