nice price deal !!! >a night on the wonk< is on an experimental tip with highly addictive horn and chime hooks. the gemmy remix takes the chime section, gives it some of the well known purple treatment and turns it into a highly distinctive but slightly sickly intro. i say sickly but thats perhaps because i have listened to it a lot of times in a fairly short period of time. however we are then treated to a bleepy roller with moderate variation to keep things interesting. this makes it perfect for an early set or casual listening. >detached reality< crackles its way through some haunting vocals and evil guitar riffs creating a tense but soothing atmosphere ? detaching you from reality, sinking you into your seat while your mind starts to play tricks with itself. what are we really here for?

incredilbe package with remixes by schatrax, kink, todd sines as .xtrak, kink and the subliminal kid. the result of schatrax take is a typically beautiful and deep reworking. todds remix of dodaso is typically fucked up and funky in true .xtrak style. kinks version of the gauntlet remains quite faithful to the original whilst also instilling it with his own trippy and unique style. last year peder mannerfelt, aka the subliminal kid, sent me a track which became the only track released on off-key through a demo submission. blackwood freestyle has mutated under the hands by the subliminal kid into a rolling dub inflected groover.

played by luciano, tiefschwarz, brothers vibe, anthony collins, livio & roby, giusseppe cennamo and more...!! pachamama in english is the andean peoples word for mother nature. so its no wonder that the chilean native multi talented musician, alejandro vivanco, remixed a track by the same name as it carries with it the message of our earths mother through its energy, positivity and promises of eternal sunshine. both the original and the 2 vivanco mixes are topped off with a funky easy riding 70s horn section and the dub mix is an altogether more housey fuelled track with more hi hats to make you shake off the winter blues. one by one the musical portrait of pachamama unfolds itself in a dreamy soundscape of warm summery beats that coax you to the poolside and dance with you from sunrise to sunset!

prepare to enter the sombrero galaxy. journey to the centre of the sun, the debut release from lovefingers highly anticipated imprint esp institute, is a collaborative effort from londoner jonny nash (discosession) and dutchman tako reyenga. the two met years ago whilst jonny was working and living in tokyo and tako made his way over to dj. around the same time, lovefingers linked up with these two and a musical family had formed. that being told, its only natural for sombrero galaxy to find its home and represent the face of the esp insitute. journey to the centre of the sun is a dive into a moody, visceral and ethereal headspace brought to life through shimmering synthesizers, swirling guitars and a chugging bassline coupled with live percussion, clearly setting the bar higher than the bulk of contemporary electronic music. on the b side, the stallions (lovefingers and lee douglas) reinterpret the track with optimism, nicely complimenting the original with a light and cloudy yet driving house version. this is the music of dreams, keep an eye on esp institute in this new decade.

this one is just deeply delicious, no matter if played on low or high volume. fear of flying takes us on a deep flight through dubnesia.

hit the streets slams in from the start with a confident kick drum, using a collection of layered percussive elements and drums (check that cowbell) to create a solid groove. seductive vocal snippets give the track a focus throughout, whilst fritter artfully introduces fresh elements until its resolution. building chords, open hi-hats and a ripping old-school melody reminiscent of warehouse 303s keep boredom at bay. bonza. ridgee didgee steadily courses through deeper realms, again with that killer percussion. here not one but a variety of freaky vocals and playful samples co-habit a densely layered habitat of groove. feral elements are backed up by a driving aboriginal bassline, relentless til a brief half-time reprise. a limited 200 white vinyls are available.

sometime around 1999 swayzak released a 50 copies only white label of tracks >easy< and >hof ter lo< as a taster of their 2000 album >himawari< sadly neither of these tracks made the album in the end, but are now remixed and re-edited by rennie foster and shane berry (dirty works, japan) the originals are brought back to life, and given a twist in a new direction. ten years on we plough through our archives and have a new feeling for these old tunes.

after a bit of a quiet period, moods & grooves returns with a heavy hitter – gu (aka glenn underground). an icon from the 2nd generation of chicago house music producers, gu by far is the most prolific. back to the basic is a concept through which he returns to the roots of chicago house when producers made the music, not a computer or program.
