oslo is happy to welcome new artist federico lijtmaer to the family with his wonderful ep impermanencia. inpermanencia on the a-side is a superb deep house track with the right kind of funkyness for the cool. federico combines smooth bass with shifty drums and classy synth action. this track will conjure a smile on your face and we are happy as hell to be able to release this little gem. unselfish on the b-side is as funky as its big brother on the flip-side. a throwback to bygone times in a way, if you consider labels as mosaic or trelik. however, federico definitely succeeded in terms of a modern interpretation. the inclined listener will recognize his musical roots anyway.

a demo tape, sent to capitol records by the trash company in the early 90s, garnered this curt response from then president of the r&b division, joy bailey: some music was never meant to be heard. thug records returns with one of the most intriguing releases to grace the catalogue so far. not restricted by any one scene, max monroe of the trash company produces a hypnotic medley of original hard edge rhythm & blues, soul dance and classic psychedelic punk wave textures. armed with a condition known as synesthesia meaning he perceives sounds, words and letters in terms of color and a 4 track cassette recorder, the trash company has spent the last 30 years as a bedroom recording genius.

*bastard child of house* is a tribute to chicagos most famous record store. inspired by a video about some native chicago guys working at the store, peter schumann and kareem decided to set words to a tune and create their own version of the story. they asked their buddy dcnt if he could add his interpretation too. and so it happened that words became sound and sound inspired more sound and as we speak everything turns into words again. with both versions the tooliness is very obvious, while the original is organic and warm in terms of tone and sound design, the dcnt version has a more technoish feel and relies heavily on its edgy and straightforward character.

after four impressive releases from the likes of ossie and behling & simpson, 2020 midnight visions kicks of its attack on 2013 with a new ep from the uks doc daneeka. last year saw doc team up with benjamin damage for a well received full length on 50 weapons, they live!, which stood apart for its pioneering hybridisation of house, bass and techno. here, on his own terms, doc explores a more extroverted, melodically rich variant of bass heavy house across all four tracks.

old friends who started their passion together are now compressed on this ep. patrick k moved from frankfurt to berlin, he is resident at the funky people party in frankfurt, a huge music lover and addicted to his studio. his sound is mainly based on drums and rhythms and he knows how to handle it.

the multi-talented vanese smith aka pursuit grooves makes her debut on deepblak under her new 91 fellows moniker. after establishing herself in recent years with pursuit grooves outings heavy in beats and bass, smith turns her talents to more open sonic landscapes. >91 fellows< represents as she terms her push into cinematic dub leaning heavily on her collegiate film major roots. the project was inspired as a dedication to her grandfather who passed on in 2011. through a myriad of ambient textures, and percussion she invites the listener to join her as she weaves through different emotional headspaces. six tracks that run like chapters of saga accompanied by two remixes by deepblak chief alchemist aybee, and resident rhythm czar afrikan sciences.

usually, the purpose of a piece like this is to tell other writers, music mag editors, distribution people and record shop clerks why they should like a certain release and buy, hype, review it. often these encomiums are not really honest and sometimes you even feel like attending an attempt to sell a flat tire. as for i:cubes new longplayer m megamix things are – of course! – very different. being its fifth solo album, an introduction of a man like nicolas chaix or even his biography (another popular brick of sales sheets) seems rather unsuitable. if you dont know what you should know, just use your internet search engine with any of these terms: chateau flight, versatile records, french touch, disco cubizm or parisian prodigy.

we are proud to introduce a new member to the platte family. its dcnt aka franklin de costa. the producer who is also an excellent dj, has been making music with his collection of analogue equipment for more than a decade. with his steady output on labels like trapez, curle, greta cottage workshop, resolute and mule he has established himself as one of germanys top addresses in terms of deep and soulful electronic music and has managed to create his own unique sound signature.

its impossible to sum up a career of dj sneak in few words, so well try with just couple of terms that might serve as a brief introduction to the world of the one of the scenes most vibrant djs and producers: in 1992 dj sneak began recording music. he released some of house music defining tracks on defiant, henry street music, relief, cajual, 83 west, downtown 161, strictly rhythm, classic (...) to name a few. 20 years later he is still one of hardest working producers around, one of the most in demand djs, and as always a full time house gangster. this summer he is responsible for a hard-hitting 4 track – ep which will be his debut on desolat. enjoy!

nice price deal !!! being in the same gene pool as pat sharpes hair is enough of a stigma to steer any young djs career off course - deep in the discos of pop trash. fortunately for metaphi / metske, although still benefitting from the same glossy 90s locks as the radio-jock/distant uncle, musical inspiration came from more complex climates. wigflex006 acts as a fine electronic switchboard to metaphis archive of talents, a complicated circuit board of the experimental ranging from hip hop, idm, and garage to blues harmonicas and classical rifts, seamlessly melted into one gloop of green circuitry where each musical discipline must co-exist with another. as metske the bpms hover around 95, the framework is hip-hop, the sound often skwee but the influences thereafter are endless, slow train blues clicks its way through a steam train intro before marring the lines between electronic music and the blues with a self-composed harmonica rift worthy of howlin wolf. at the same tempo spin states delves into the cosmic with pipey neon chords and bit-crunched bass: sega mega drive boss level business. metaphis taste for big room techno is blatant and genetically wigflex over sharpflex, and in terms of nationality its mongrel, half notts, half eastern europe. with concious mentis hes keeping things minimal but charged from lower frequencies and messmode progresses with some serious dancefloor swagger.

k skip skipson has built himself quite a fan base with his funky releases as (knarf) skipson on quintessentials and other labels. the young man from berlin is deeply infuenced by hip hop – both in terms of production techniques (he uses an mpc as his main instrument) as well as aesthetically. for maria colors he comes up with four massive house tracks full of hip hop and soul samples which make you wonder, can it get any deeper than this?! funky as hell and extremely soulful – thats what makes these tracks from skipson so special – and at the same time theyre a wonderful way to celebrate the labels first birthday.

ultraschall is an homage to the first big techno club in munich. the owners of harry klein were part of the old ultraschall, which has a unique legendary status nowa¬days. the older generation in particular often long for the good old days. yes those times shouldnt be forgotten, especially not in terms of sound, but its also important to move on and attempt new things. like supporting vinyl, going to a who¬lefood shop or ending war. ok that might sound like a bro¬ken record, but how about spending less time on facebook and actually with your friends, cooking for your parents or organizing a break dance battle in your backyard? daniel takes us on a journey through the past and back to the future again. a charming mixture of laid-back grooves combined with some rough n ready rave moments make this a rapturous trip, no matter what time it is. track names are a really interesting element of music. some artists dont care about them at all and call their tracks a1 or something non-descript. yet many titles can be really funny, others made up words, and some corre¬spond to current events or times. some just really fit the sound. if you lose something, in general its a pretty nasty and unsettling feeling. but you have to deal with bad luck when it strikes. losing something can teach you an im¬portant lesson, or simply show you what it means to be unfortunate and down. not knowing the lows as well as the highs wont allow you to evaluate life very well. most important is to really feel and be yourself, despite the ups and downs.

despite the post-industrial label often affixed to factory floor, there is a greater complexity of sound within the bands music that defies such facile descriptions. yes, there are rigid, fixed beats, and other sounds from the manufacturing plant, as suggested by the trios moniker. but there is also an underlying danceability that belies the seeming austerity of the sound, a hint at warmth that cuts through the permafrozen exterior. that curious balance has paid endless dividends thus far: they have been remixed by producer gavin russom, liars angus andrew and no ages dean allen, remixed and released by optimo, remixed and collaborated live with throbbing gristle legend chris carter, and remixed and produced (!) by joy division and new orders stephen morris. its been a whirlwind few years in terms of musical accolades, and factory floors dfa debut is a glimpse into why.

the next ep on germany s hello? repeat imprint comes from seuil, one of paris s most inspired underground producers. in terms of style, it is a match that could hardly be more perfect. hello? repeat has spent the past six years carving a niche for itself with eps from cabanne, audio werner and label co-founder daze maxim, plus acclaimed albums by bruno pronsato and kate simko. seuil, meanwhile, has put out a steady stream of ultra-deep 12-inches on labels like freak n chic and sammy dees ultrastretch. both specialize in a sound that is modern, understated and hypnotic. late call is exactly what its name suggests: a record made for the deepest, most tender portion of the night. the drums are slick and punchy, but the rest is woozy and romantic–this is one to put on when the crowd has stopped chatting and everyone s dancing with their eyes closed. topping it off is a vocal line made famous by diana ross but recited here by an androgynous diva: if you need me, call me, no matter where you are, no matter how far… dark, trippy and weirdly moving, this is one of seuil s finest tracks yet. >slow motion< strikes a similar chord but with a more subtle approach. here you notice seuil s rare touch for subtlety: in the absence of any real >hook<, he keeps the track moving with expertly sculpted drums, a warm half-melody and a gently propulsive beat. soft chords sustain in the background to create a balmy summer night feel. both tracks show seuil and hello? repeat doing what they do best: delivering something deep, functional and full of character.
