times are ruff is here with the 11th edition of its imprint, showcasing some of the styles the label stands for, percussive, jazzy, hypnotic and rhythmic house-music. tar011 is a dance floor oriented 4-tracker by alex fields and pete bandit. the guys behind the collaborative times are ruff project & label (which they do together with resistance orchestra) bring you this time two solo tracks each.
alex fields brings two tracks to the table which both are based on a jazzy foundation without becoming lazy. fields pushes his drums and patterns to overdrive to uplift every dancefloor, while keeping the melody side musically interesting with jazzy solos. bandit keeps it more rhythmic and straight-forward on his side, with a percussive driven beat-track and a small wink to earlier more hypnotic tar releases with his track ruff street.
the main ingredient is the second album by pete rock & cl smooth, originally released in 1994. characterized by sultry soul and jazz samples, the album saw a more polished sound than the duo’s debut “mecca & the soul brother” movlp1633, building on the praise that they had already garnered. the main ingredient is notable for its snappy, crispy drums and extensive use of vocal scratches. it contains some of the duo’s best known work, in the form of tracks such as the upbeat “in the house”, and the catchy “sun won’t come out”, which features a lush vocal sample from the song of the same name by harvey scales.

pete dafeet unleashes the third single from his critically acclaimed debut album the root, the soul, in what will be his labels final release. after a decade in business, baltimore is a fitting epitaph for lost my dog: a languid and lazy deep house cut that makes for a classic end-of-night jam. if that isnt enough, house legend charles webster drops by with a trio of deep and dubby remixes to help the label sign off with a real flourish.
this release is a collection of big names of the electronic music history, some of them are legends: pete tong & john monkman lead the list of big artists in this ep, they had produced the bumps a few months ago and now we can see the remixes of that track.

lost my dog co-founder pete dafeet releases the second single from his critically acclaimed debut album the root, the soul. my love is raw is classic deep house: gritty chords, fierce vocal snippets, and roughshod beats that bring dj pierre s wild pitch to mind. manuel tur s remix adds menace to the original s simplicity. a stripped-back groove that builds to a crescendo of acid, synths, and tribal rhythms - as turbulent and demented a seven minutes you ll find this side of dc10.
wife is the first single from pete dafeet s forthcoming album the root, the soul. an exultant slab of piano-led house, wife screams summer and should prove a hit on europes dance-floors as festival season rolls in. nacho marcos remix adds steel to the originals splendour, with tr-303 and 909 joining forces to drive energy levels skywards - recalling nachos recent outings on ovum, classic, and we play house. early dj support from chez damier, ian pooley, charles webster, milton jackson, manuel tur, moodymanc, blakkat, danny howells, luke solomon, atjazz, radio support bbc radio 1 (monki) bbc radio 1xtra (monki) defected radio show traxsource radio show (x2) fish go deep radio anna wall (defected, future disco radio): these are some of the most beautifully crafted, well put together prouctions i ve heard in a long time.
glam was the name used by italian hits producers dfc team to present their cult record hells party. hells party also was more than just an inspiration for the international hit the key the secret composed by urban cookies collective and dfc team. for their second glams record dfc team wanted one of their favorite artist of all times: pete burns of dead or alive. pete was really excited by glams demo and wrote one of his best songs: this is the story of sex drive that fast become an hit in 1994. today, exactly 20 years later, dfc label re-releases sex drive with four wonderful new remixes, a real hot record that pete burns and glams old and new fans cannot miss.
the original, with a well-constructed bassline incorporates a warm up melody that begins to set the tone for the night ahead. each layer is distinct as the track begins to build itself right to its crescendo when each of those individual layers collectively come together. you can distinctly hear the 80 s like synths that are cleverly inserted into the track which are highlighted by the female vocal samples. the grittier elements add a touch of darkness and instantly transport you to a warehouse club with an intimate atmosphere. the remix, done by the widely loved tech-house duo pleasurekraft jack up the tempo a notch, and add a bouncy groove to the track. where the original brought out a darker side, the remix is more upbeat and settles in well for a peak hour set. bringing that crisp bassline to the fore, and tuning out the melodies to make them a tad subtler it showcases a more tech-house version of the original. there s an added element a slightly more haunted vibe which is coupled together with those gritty and harder elements. all i can conclude is what a tech-house bomb this is from the highly talented pleasurekraft. they always manage to bring something new and unique to every single track they ve ever remixed which truly shows their remarkability as consistently good producers.
