dfa has long been a favourite at the bitches hq and we were chuffed to be asked to remix one of our favourite acts, the rapture. we certainly were not shy and dove headfirst into this mix bringing out the guitars and the lovely beach boy-esque harmonies twisting it into an indie-electro-house dance floor stomper. its not for the wallflowers to be sure.dfa have released this goodie digitally, but as we bitches love our biscuits, we had to see it released on vinyl. and of course, we must ensure premium sound quality so this release is 45 rpm on 180 gram vinyl. happy listening.

the abstract acid series continues its exploration into the depths of acid with a relentless 303 assault from the yorkshire based machine operator, mantra. four rugged tracks of distorted, crackling beats and low slung bass lines that are just crying out to be ripped through the speakers of a dark, filthy warehouse. as usual, pressed with a fine cover artwork from andrew ingram and limited to 300 copies

a shuffling mix of acoustic guitar riffs, licks, natural percussion and of course razs well known melancholic vocal lines all come together to generate a country folk feeling of the 60s. a dampened kick drives the energy deep and harmonicas seep into our minds and set our soul on fire. a fresh track for a hot summer day on the lake. acid pauli takes the track and acidizes it by adding, yep, acid lines and a very direct kick. the track gains more of a main time vibe, heightened energy and deeper bass allow this track to hold its own in a variety of set styles. the final mix is an open air anthem delivered from the sorry entertainers m. rux and lotti. using percussion of the same natural flavor and incorporating dirty synth lines, the two produce a heavier mix worthy of both dancefloors and home listening.

tony ollivierras issued a generous number of singles and eps under the ibex moniker on rushhour, planet e, yore, and his own ibex music, and now follows up his 2010 yore release, meltdown, with absolution, though this time under his birth name. no matter: ollivierras music sounds great, whether issued under his real name or an alias, and absolution is no exception. the infectious title cut gets things moving with a bass-powered blend of claps and funky rhythms before chunky house chords and silken synth figures add to the tracks multi-layered splendour. a jazzier dimension rises to the surface of quick release when the tunes churning hi-hats are joined by royally swinging electric piano playing and luscious synth pads.phase down opts for a purer deep house sound in its focus on kick drums, claps, and futuristic synths, though the track proves that ollivierras naturally funky side cant help but emerge, here as it does elsewhere.

opening track >what i do< introduces the ep on a poignant note with its sombre keys and emotive vocal flourishes without forsaking any of the force at its fingertips, driven by the bubbling subs and electric midrange. >fall< then sweeps in on a lush bed of glistening keys, soft vocal flourishes and a skipping drum line before crashing back down to earth with waves of warping bass tones blasting through the low end of the track. counterpointed by the soaring synth notes that flicker above, mydas balances the light and dark elements brilliantly.

some proper quality house music on the 3rd and final part in the golden age trilogy by giles and martin aka the two armadillos. think larry heard, norm talley, delano smith and the likes! the a side once again is club track with a modulating, moody heavy, heavy bassline and lots of atmosphere. definitely one for big rooms but for deeper 5am moments with its strings and fluttering hypnotic keys. this has been going down a treat in both giles and martins dj sets for some time. >detroit dancer< has a jazzy scat drum programming, keys, plenty of atmosphere and sparkling synth solos. last up the downtempo musical and downright lazy vibes of >majestic< with its stand up bass, strings and keys play out and signal the final track of the trilogy of releases.

hollands fah aka robin de bekker enters the scene with this heavy, braindance inspired five tracker. opener fine space is spooky and upbeat with false melodies fighting the tracks ground level acid bubbles.bonus orbits starts off as a fast electronic harpsichord cut for a smart dance floor before turning into a hectic swamp of challenging harmonies.sixears is a shorter track holding the middle ground between a moody elecktroids tune and hectic, vibert-like acid. the eps title track and centerpiece then, is characterized by rewinds, whistles, haunting melodies and a total lack of repetition, its a 9 minute long excursion into the most unreal part of bekkers mind. fah finally says goodbye with an eerie cut that sounds like a humming predator with no food to eat. fahs first one for 030303 comes with appropriate, occultist artwork.

nice price deal !!! being in the same gene pool as pat sharpes hair is enough of a stigma to steer any young djs career off course - deep in the discos of pop trash. fortunately for metaphi / metske, although still benefitting from the same glossy 90s locks as the radio-jock/distant uncle, musical inspiration came from more complex climates. wigflex006 acts as a fine electronic switchboard to metaphis archive of talents, a complicated circuit board of the experimental ranging from hip hop, idm, and garage to blues harmonicas and classical rifts, seamlessly melted into one gloop of green circuitry where each musical discipline must co-exist with another. as metske the bpms hover around 95, the framework is hip-hop, the sound often skwee but the influences thereafter are endless, slow train blues clicks its way through a steam train intro before marring the lines between electronic music and the blues with a self-composed harmonica rift worthy of howlin wolf. at the same tempo spin states delves into the cosmic with pipey neon chords and bit-crunched bass: sega mega drive boss level business. metaphis taste for big room techno is blatant and genetically wigflex over sharpflex, and in terms of nationality its mongrel, half notts, half eastern europe. with concious mentis hes keeping things minimal but charged from lower frequencies and messmode progresses with some serious dancefloor swagger.

hugo is back! gomma records berlin posse is busy. hugo capablanca - resident dj at broken hearts club and man of los massierias joins forces with swedish amigo t. keeler. the second one for gomma. they started with an epic flamenco percussion disco track last summer - now they go deep into proto electronica. dreamhouse… balearic you can call it. its the greyness of berlin winter days with the warm waves of south spanish beach evenings. check also the name in lights remix of ???

imperious spanish imprint deep explorer reaches release number 26 with a split ep featuring altered moods malcolm moore alongside long time explorer bjak (real name brian cullen). bjaks two cuts - >rhythm of love< and >purple fire< - are both produced with typically immaculate poise, but its the sultry nature of the latter cut that had everyone at juno hq swooning. malcolm moore meanwhile serves up the swooping chords and rock hard bump of >love (a perilous thing)<, which features an ethereal vocal contribution from debra jones-davis, who talks about the dangers of the l-word while the lush arrangement works deep below in the mix. jenifa mayanja rounds off a consummate package with a shuffling, latin-influenced remix of >love (a perilous thing)<.

after debuting with an albums worth of experimental, ambient electronic explorations from the hugely talented nyc based jason letkiewicz under his alan hurst moniker, the emotional response label maintains such high standards with their second release. the focus shifts to timothy j fairplay, a uk producer whose growing discography is proving to be impressive too. ears should still be ringing to his world unknown released homage to ancient egypts predilection for psychedelic drugs and its little surprise he has been hand picked for the debut release on sir weatheralls new vinyl initiative bird scarer. the four tracks that make up somebody, somewhere retain that dubby mid tempo poise that permeated fairplays output to date, though he seems to revel in the freedom to experiment emotional response encourages, focusing more on developing expansive patterns of synths on tracks like >aim for the yellow sector< and the title track. special mention too for >i do not believe< which comes on in a deep medi doing digidub style!

the excellent lumberjacks in hell imprint has served up some fine edits in its short lifespan to date, most notably from chicagos mutant beat dancer traxx and the labels latest release turns to two other windy city residents renowned for their collections and skills. rahaan needs little introduction for the disco loving community with essential drops on stillove4music, disco deviance and more, whilst mr sounds runs the excellent bring the heat website. this twelve is all about the a side >rainin bleeding boy< which puts a well loved uk ebm couple through the dub laden beatdown grinder - though djs will get plenty of mileage out of both tracks on the b side with >flip side< some supremely chopped up disco funk and >war i declare< a stomping and heavily filtered bomb.

in the 18 months since his brilliant debut release for we play house, luv jam has been steadily building his profile with a number of releases, and now he returns on vibrations with his first full ep of material since that auspicious first record. the eps a-side is a typically lush foray into stripped back, slo-mo house, with opener tough future utilizing little more than a 303 bassline and 909 kick to slowly build up to its raindrop crescendo, and >rubber band< employing a number a dreamy synths atop its tense, gurgling bass. the pace picks up on the b-side with >last floor hotel (mega mix)< upping the tempo and going into full on acid mode, with its furious pace accented with frenetic cowbell hits and industrial textures. the ep closes with >elastic band< a deeper excursion into jacking house, characterized by its flurry of handclaps, weighed up by its rubbery bassline.

the liquideep duo is made up of singer/songwriter/producer ziyon and dj producer ryzor, and they hooked up in 2007 over a mutual love of hook laden, melodically rich, deep house music. just two years after their formation they caught the attention of the entire nation with the track >fairytale<, which got playlisted on every major station in sa, played on any dancefloor worth its salt and received a sama nomination for song of the year. more recently it won a channel o music video award for most gifted dance video .

anozerâ€,s latest release comes with two major changes: first time the label publishes on vinyl, changing its status from digi-label to label. first time a female artist contributes musically to anozer project - its about time!

as i look to the sky from the surface of the water is the much awaited second album from grit, aka london producer gary brackley and it has found a perfect home on meanwhile. the label is well placed to be an outlet for grits explorations deep into the realm of deep techno, thanks to its standing within the techno community and this album stands tall alongside contributions from the likes of murmur, sven weismann, bvdub and conforce. opening with the expansive title track, grit sets the tone for what to expect with the ripple of syncopation shifting in and out of focus amidst the viscous layers of foggified luminescent ambient texture. across the subsequent five tracks this tone is retained throughout as brackley playfully explores the inventive sparks that arise when rhythm rubs with texture, with the smudged out subaqueous >safer retreat< a real highlight.
