anyone familiar with the music of sinisa tamamovic knows the man is an expert in techno floor fillers.... the tracks here are no exception, valentina and confused reside in the world of bold, unrelenting grooves constructed with little more than bass and drums: and they get the job done. the bass lines are distinctly sinisa, simple, catchy, and mixed exquisitely, they take on a whole new attitude when played on club systems. valentina starts things strong, its driving rhythm gains energy as atmospheres develop and an worldly vocal enters, a latin american street rhyme that gives the track some international flare. confused is more raw, employing rough drums and ethereal sound effects. either one will do the trick for peak hours and late nights, and expect to hear these all over the place at wmc 2016

the next release on lag is from bay area to berlin transplant jamaica suk. the kontort ep (lag006) is another 3 cut record with all original music. the title track kontort is a composition with the big room in mind with thunderous kicks and bass with intricate panning and dub inflections. holographic is a another big room techno workout with a deliciously infectious piano line which allows the producers personality to shine through. depth between waves is a dub techno roller. this track shows restraint till the break then re-emerges with a synth sound that pushes the groove forward in a simple yet undeniable manner.

for the debut of his newfound label ipso records, ko&#776,,,,lsch wanted to try something new. he has long been a fan of limiting himself in the studio. sometimes working with less equipment brings out the best in you, so for the first release i figured it would be interesting to experiment with this, ko&#776,,,,lsch says. inspired by the danish dogma films, he decided to make a rule, and as he is not one for overdoing things, the rule is very simple.

king ghazi is shadi khries and gilbert cohen. recorded in amman / may 2014. all the music presented here is original, and has been recorded in jordan in may 2014. this project was born when i met shadi in paris, at the percussion recording sessions for acid arab. from these sessions came the idea of&#8203,,,,,exploring local music styles on the verge of disappearing, in jordan and elsewhere in the middle east. it was also an opportunity for me to meet exceptional people and wonderful artists. for 15 days, we travelled through jordan, recording local musicians. here we hear osama al khairat aka abu sayah, an exiled syrian musician who plays the yarghoul (two flutes linked together by beeswax. one plays a drone, the other the corresponding range, all while blowing continuously). i want to specially thank shermine sawalha for allowing us to record in the living room of her parents house, as well as for coordinating the whole project. without her energy and patience, this record would not be in your hands today.

romanias snejl black teams up with qindek for its 4th release. what we get are 3 tracks, carefully sculpted, ultra-pure visions of techno. each is thoroughly uncluttered, and given just enough color to be compelling. simple kick drum, undulating sounds that provide something distantly related to melody, and very subtle backdrops that pair a soothing hiss and quiet drones. nothing is superfluous, everything is essential.

for the latest instalment in the apollonia story we look to argentina and the talented producer federico molinari. having been based in germany for the last couple of decades, federico has refined his sound, developing a strong signature through his dj sets and his studio productions, most of which he has released via his label oslo. federicos ability to craft effortless grooves and timeless rhythms is evident here on this killer new three-tracker. side a is the eight-minute long roller * congo toys*. the focus here is on a crisp 4x4 beat, which keeps things simple – under this lies a sturdy bassline. all the while, the low end is accompanied by a series of bleeps, which could almost be the chatter between two archaic computers, modulated and weaving in and out of the beats and bass. on the flip, we have two more dance floor-ready joints. like * congo toys*, * tres cuartos* is focused around a simple foundation, with layers of unusual effects – an overriding sense of playfulness comes through in molinaris production, perfect for the boogie down crew. last up, * joyfex* takes us further into leftfield, hypnotic, hazy atmospherics draw us into their web and we are tangled up in a mesh of vibrating whirrs and echoing, distorted voices. sublime business from an apollonia favorite…

on the a-side, this is what we would call a banger here at crowdspacer. simple, stupid, raw, funky. is it a tribute to new york? not sure but the b side certainly is. to be more precise it’s a tribute to merce cunningham, the legendary choreographer, close collaborator of john cage and genius thinker who inspired the name of the label. based on a recorded lecture by merce, the eponymous track is a slow, hypnotic and organic house groove, an ode to movement and ny avant garde, because “...dancing is a visible action of life.”

a1 nubian mindz - deep in raves: well known for his versatile and rich production, colin delivers once more. with a quite suitable name - deep in raves is just that. a deep plunge into dark and rave-like atmosphere. after a short intro layered with an ominous voice, massive bassline takes over and drives the track through the darkest curves. enriched with short percussions and a synth stab this is quite a stomper best experienced on a good club soundsystem, preferably in the dark. a2 volster - nebula: almost obsessed with audio purity, volster manages to combine new and modern sounds with old-school genre roots. nebula is all about complexity. although it is based on an electro foundations, it s so much more. space filled with an oscillatory synth motion perplexed with smooth pads that gives the impression of an interstellar properties. no detail is left unengaged, from the 808 that keeps everything in motion to the subtle amount of panning. this is a beautifully crafted story by a producer who is slowly but steadily growing into one of the best croatian artists. b1 lucretio - dracula: the most famed beard of cadoneghe/italy has pulled another magic gem from his music source. widely known for his relentless tendency to push the analogue spectrum to it s extreme, lucretio surprises once more with his ability to blend simple pieces into an effective sub storm with almost comic like features. dracula is not your conventional tune and it s pretty obvious why as soon as you put the needle on. broke down rhythm is heavily fueled by polished but enormous sub background with sparse and ¥in your face¥ shots. seemingly random notes take a gloomy and powerful form during the break and soon the lurky atmosphere comes into picture. this is truly brilliance in it s full simplicity. if only bram stoker could hear this, he would probably be both stunned and amused! b2 james booth - jxst do it: one of our goals on vakum is to be on a lookout for a new and promising talents. berlin based james booth surely fits the bill. jxst do it is a seriously crafted track with rich rhythmic section wrapped in a steady build up. after the initial break-beat intro sliced in short chunks, subtle 303 bassline takes over and the rhythmic game begins. booth delivers a perfectly timed cuts accompanied by a diverse palette of percussions. this is a perfect piece for those build up moments in the club..

arapus ever evolving producer skills are once again showcased on his own label, now on its second release. like a meticulous fractal designer, arapu fills the space between the fast paced beats with simple sound structures, interconnected at a subconscious level. to fully understand the beauty of it you have to follow the techy tribal accents from hazard, the 80s’ electronica theme hidden into so doo or no more space’s dark sci-fi soundtrack bassline that would surely put a lot of pressure on the undergrounds soundsystems. liniar 002s sound is definately crafted for those dancefloor moments when the visceral bassline makes way for strobes scattered into the thick atmosphere

mike witcombe joins the kindisch family, bringing along a delicate sound for a fantastic journey with his delomi ep. the title track charms both the body and the soul, with an elegantly simple track unleashing a sea of warmth with beautiful chord-work and a steady stream of organic percussion. taking the torch further, almond dives a bit deeper, and travels a bit further, hypnotizing us into the night. acid meets house meets after-hour meets pure and warm intentions to create an intricate and almost spiritual experience. next, mike witcombe and felix warmuth balance chaos and control with islagrande, representing the symbiosis between artist and machine, opening doors to realms rarely seen and inviting all to join the experience.

the last sound carrier was based around the notion of intrepid intergalactic explorers trying to get to earth, this time we’re taken 10.000 leagues below the surface to trawl the deep sea. all the way down there, we experience increased pressure, sub-zero temperatures, darkness and previously undiscovered new worlds. up first we have ‘lactarius indigo mission’, which has a distinct urgency and ‘in-your-face’ bitch slap percussion. the bassline writhes under a variety of squelchy, bleepy effects, which add a layer of depth and the whole thing feels quite electro. after that *from the space to the sea* continues the electro vibes with more punchy beats, a rugged b-line and heavyweight kicks. carriers use of quirky details give this track a unique character and contagious energy.on the other side we are treated to another strange carrier creation, the laidback kepler 22b. named after the first known planet to orbit a sun within what’s known as a habitable zone, kepler 22b could well support life. the track is serene and full of optimism, a fitting soundtrack for a distant earth-like planet. minimal workout * diver level 1000* closes the ep with its unusual arrangement and simple yet deadly programming. another addition to the impressive sound carrier catalogue and perhaps its most leftfield so far

sebastian fiegen rolls out his debut solo release for cadenza records this spring, with a trio of excellent house cuts on the theofidelity ep. the german producer has been crafting quality productions for some time now under aliases and collaborations, and its on lucianos label where he makes his mark as a solo artist. dopeman opens the ep with a rolling chi-town house style groove, a simple yet effective filtered vocal loop and sustained strings harvest the feel good vibes over its solid beats. fiegen keeps up the pace with anando, more drum led house grooves with a high production value, the vocal refrain cutting in and out of the mix whilst the simplistic bassline and woody percussion maintains the bouncing vibes. closing the ep is th01, again coming correct with the feel good factor with its use of the looped sample and lazy, hypnotizing drums. a cracking debut production from fiegen, and a well rounded release for cadenza.

contemplative, but never melancholic, rather with a positive mood, the tracks diffuse an overwhelming lightness and radiate a lighthearted happiness, which are manifested on an incredibly emotional and spiritual level. with the simple and classic black and white artwork the two releases from sahraoui balance eachother like yin und and yang. the second part of the eternal life ep has a very different background than the first ep. it is the white yang of these two natural opposites, contrary forces that are interconnected and interdependent. the record is significantly calmer, less clubby and references the beginnings of the detroit sound

dj sounds presents moving, a 3 tracks record made for the dancers and the djs. track 1 -moving- is an elegant built around a filtered disco-ish sample, simple while very efficient. -casa suave- is a classic sounding house track, easy to spin and sure to please the crowd. closing the record, -fragments- is a bit slower and deeper with its roland pads and bass, still very danceable.

two of paris’ most respected artists get together for their second collaborative extended player this year. dan ghenacia and chris carrier have been entrenched in the electronic scene in their hometown for a long while now, both men building a strong rep through consistently great music and dj performances. earlier this year they joined forces on ‘just a sin’, released via carrier’s adult only label, now they’re back with the follow-up on apollonia. across three deadly tracks, the duo explore their love of music making machines to the fullest – each track taking its name from ‘sweet heart’, translated into different languages. ‘schatzi’ works off a modular synth, bursting out of the blocks with a wobbly bassline which supports a range of subtle effects together with infrequent vocal clips. as the track progresses warm rising pads and female vocal snippets create an entrancing atmosphere. next up we get an arabian twist with ‘habibi’. a pervading air of mystery presents itself right from the off, with warped voices lurking in the background as the rhythm lures you into its murky groove. as the track progresses more eerie pads and effects are layered over the stepping bassline giving it a very creepy feel. finally, french vibes comes through with ‘cherie’ on side b. the track draws its energy from the busy, though crisp, percussive elements and a b-line that groans in unison with the beats. a simple chime remains present throughout, keeping it minimal yet interesting.

french producer juliano delivers the next ep, entitled * this must be...*, on his own imprint * that place records*. fourth in line on the label, following on from releases from visitors for reworks, mzkbx (aka sacha mambo) and love comedy, the now berlin-based artist gifts his very first ep to the collection. as a dj, juliano has spent the last 13 years honing his craft - first cutting his teeth holding down a residency at l ambassade, and then going on to play all over france and throughout europe. over a decade of digging and spinning has led juliano to develop a refined palette and a knack for finding tunes that make the dance floor bounce. strongly influenced by us house, * panaugust* is a real dance floor killer with its never ending synth. the more emotional * anthem for a friend* is a real tribute, drawing inspiration from chicago and detroit such as the real mess with its special rhythm & blues vibe. finally, cupid mess brings a touch of japanese mood, evoking images of an early-morning rising sun thanks to the classic juno6 sound. julianos ethos is that music should stay fun - preferring to keep things simple, but always real. watch out for this one.

london-based producer guy andrews is renowned for creating textural electronic music, combining influences from post-rock, techno, ambient and afrobeat. after releasing on hemlock, hotflush and pennyroyal, scoring for photographer nadav kander, and remixing massive attacks robert del naja, he makes his houndstooth debut with in autumn arm’. on the title track, a simple guitar melody falls melancholically over a bed of synth loops and string ensemble, while snares and thundering drums meld with distortion to heighten the tension. let your shadow decide is the a-sides darker, downbeat counterpart, opening with tremolo strings and a weighty bass-line, while emphatic drums build toward the tracks climax. although seemingly disparate, guys use of wall-of-sound noise and softer strings is skilfully mixed, carried forward by the stark guitar lead.
