to explain the project briefly, this is the second ep called cd it has a remix track by alejandro vivanco on the c side, which then chic miniature have remixed on the d side. the project will continue like that on the next 12” where another artist will be remixing the chic miniature remix... and so it continues. the records won’t be catalogued by numbers, but by letters, as they are more of a series all together. in other words there is only one original track, which is the a side of the first ‘changing pieces’ 12- and the rest are remixes.

with the 3-track ep mantra joix opens a new dimension in his electronic music. for the first time he uses his own voice on a larger scale, giving it a machine-like sound that transforms and heightens the meaning of his german words.

the lead track -mantra- refers to the techno movement in germany in the 90s, which joix lived and breathed as a teenager. those mystical experiences staying awake all night in rooms full of light and sound ÔÇ came close to the trance states attained by chanting mantras. this is the main idea and the emotional inspiration behind this pulsating a-side track.

collages are a marvelous thing, every now and then, almost a magical thing. the process of layering materials that were not meant to ft together, such as fabrics with photos, is one of constant choice and assessment. maybe these could ft with those? how can i make this sit well with that? as with physical objects, the process of creating sound collages will have you up late considering… contemplating… calculating… it can leave the strongest of minds numb. but then, all of a sudden, a magic moment occurs. these weirdly ft with those, this somehow blends perfectly with that, and creation just… happens. it will never cease to amaze me how some silky chords recorded on a sunny ohio day, seem destined to be paired with a stumbling polish drumbreak. that is the mind boggling, time traveling magic of beats. pieces of sound, from different times and places, sometimes appear to be made for each other with these words in mind from lyricist ivan ave, we present to you ol burger beats sophomore lp mind games. the frst lp on the newly founded label mutual intentions, and one of the most thematic releases weve done to this day. ol’ burger is known in the beatmaking circles for his jazzy sound and great drums. with his latest unreleased instrumentals ep well received, its now time to let the rappers jump on his beats. the feature-list includes underground heavy hitters like chester watson, jeremiah jae, quelle chris, ivan ave, fly anakin & koncept jack$on and kami from savemoney.

this is kollaps first full length album after having gained recognition from releasing vinyl only excursions on grade10 records and remixing work for darkstar on warp records. the record has been pressed on to 180 gram vinyl and is has been mastered at star delta. the album comes with a full colour glossy sleeve and centre labels which reflect the music within. they have had their music played by benji b as well as radio 6 and other more underground radio stations. their last release on grade10 got great reviews in the fader, who said i rarely have the occasion to use the word magnificent, but the releases a-sidean epic 7-minute number titled misery has squeezed all the other words out of my head.

in 2016. i rented out a small piano studio in east london for nearly the whole year and set out to write an introspective, trendless, and mostly beatless album. inspired by albums from this mortal coil and scott walker, who also sought freedom to work outside of the expectations of their previous work, i limited the instrumentation to mostly an acoustic piano and effects, which left space to expose a lot of emotional vulnerabilities about myself and people close to me. writing lullabies about being a mother in a dystopian world, with pensive words about swimming against the current as a female artist, i felt free enough to tell untold truths that i’ve never felt comfortable talking about within music. free, liberated, empowered. naked.

new years deal - a1 - luc marianni - six synthetic suites (anno stamm remix) berlin producer anstam’s remix of six synthetic suites is quite a trip. the producer has crafted a dubbed-out version, almost sub aquatic in its sound design, structured around a murky but driving techno beat on which he layers marianni’s sounds. exotic instruments, unusual timbres, daring melodies and even slapped bass: the contrast between these sounds and stamm’s grayscale groove is powerful. a2 vril - synthetic suite giegling artist vril uses samples from marianni’s six synthetic suites released in 1986 to produce this lovely slab of dub techno. carefully crafted, this track is all about soft edges, with a kind of blurry and hazy vibe that permeates it. a sense of motion is conveyed by the sparse but efficient rhythmic section, with chords and melodic elements giving the impression of floating. with much more contrast and complexity than it might seem at first listen, this is beyond your usual dub techno cut. b1 luc marianni - six synthetic suites (margaret dygas remix) also based in berlin, margaret dygas’ own remix of six synthetic suites is a deconstructed affair, built around a half step groove, ready to be used creatively in dj sets. somewhere between an ambient excursion and a more rhythmic jam, the producer uses a sparse palette of hallucinogenic, dizzying sounds with a dash of eerie darkness that gives this version a melancholic, unsettling nature. words by edouard isar.

i released the original 12inch volume of five fingers of death battle breaks way back in 1998, while i was living in oakland and then san francisco during a time of incredible movement and creativity within the suddenly exploding scratch dj scene. the term turntablist, coined by dj disk, had yet to really catch on outside of the bay area scratch fraternity. having recently moved to california from new york, pauls turntable aesthetics were strictly 80s east coast and was more concerned with catching doubles (beat juggling) and overall party rocking. in other words, the science of scratching was not something i was even contemplating.needless to say, i was completely amazed and overwhelmed with what djs like qbert, shortcut, apollo and mixmaster mike were doing. mano le tough is set to release his second 12inch on maeve, the label he cofounded with baikal and the drifter in 2012. the label was born from the idea to release hypnotic dancefloor dedicated music, and this release certainly stays true to that. big words from the small mouth arrives on the a side of maeve 11 with quite the clatter. searing synth jams scatter over a brooding kick/sub bass combo. the sharp crisp percussion drives the track forward all the time, while various bleets, squeals and swells develop throughout giving the track a raw rave vibe. arganol on the flip is a trippy affair. touching 9 mins long, this track feels like mano le tough right from the outset, patient in its approach whilst slowly telling the listener its story. the narrative unravels through woozy melodies and melancholic cameos culminating in a burst of movement and energy perfect for the wee hours of a dancefloor.
