after few nolder, italian fellow lehar aka lorenzo esposito is the second new signing for connaisseur this year. apart from his residency at the cirq club in venice and regular bookings at some of the best clubs and parties in italy and malta, lehar truly is a very talented producer as well. some of you might have heard the free download for lehars remix of kollektiv turmstrasses classic *tristesse* which has caused some attention on him the past weeks and was therefore the perfect precursor for this release. his demo impressed us very much and both titles really hit our taste. and as though this wasn t enough, together with his demo he delivered a remix by his friend and probably hottest producer of the moment: mario basanov, head of the label boso and mostly know under his moniker ten walls.

filsonik, one of new yorks finest old school underground dj/producers is down to make his debut on the illustrious hot creations imprint after his regular appearances at circo loco dc10 and close relationship with the martinez brothers brought him into orbit with jamie jones et al. a staple in jamies sets at the moment and always creating a major impact on the dance floor, dogfish is testament to filsoniks nuanced production skills and flair for a killer groove and a ridiculously infectious swagger.

after 14 years of close collaboration tony allen stopped working with fela anikulapo kuti. after breaking from the band during the gigs at berlins festival in 1978, tony allen returned to lagos to start working on new compositions. his independence inspired him to break-away from his regular routine of putting 2 tracks on every single album

harry agius has been making waves as midland since 2010, releasing a series of increasingly impressive 12”s as a solo artist but also collaborating with the likes of ramadanman (pearson sound), breach and pariah on labels such as aus music, naked naked, works the long nights and his own graded imprint. he is also a prolific remixer who has lent his talents to artists such as lone, guy gerber, julio bashmore, dusky and more. we can proudly say he came to many people’s attention via his first phonica 12” ‘play the game’ back in 2010 and he has remained a friend and regular at the shop ever since. midland’s well deserved rise has been a delight to watch from the sidelines and we’re glad to welcome harry back to phonica with the fantastic ‘before we leave’. it starts slowly but surely as reverb soaked percussion comes to the fore, cushioned by the truly beautiful string melody, which we’re sure will be stuck in many a head this year! this could well be midland’s most deftly handled arrangement yet. running back’s gerd janson wisely decides to stick to the original track’s feel, letting the strings weave their magic, yet also brings the bassline and drums to the forefront. delicately but expertly done. midland rounds out the 12” with his barebones drums and percussion-only ‘bonus beats’ version, perfect dj tool material. we wish more records had these!

cromie s bubbling, spacious house sound first drew critical acclaim last year on the sold out 12- vines / pyrex (peach001), a collaboration with fellow la producer sage caswell. now, peach is thrilled to present cromies solo debut ep inner knows, a revved up set of idiosyncratic dancefloor weapons. how to stop a bulldozer, a rotating helix of synth stabs, warped vocals and low-end torque warrants it s epic title. elsewhere, flan functions like a potent concentrate of 22nd century funk. inner knows kicks off side b with a swirling late night house jam that flirts with the deeper corners of the genre. another fixture in la s electronic scene, suzanne kraft (running back, esp institute, pharoahs) closes out the record with a cubist reading of flan. on his solo debut, cromie s creative depth and attention to detail belies his freshness to the game. regular sets at las club called rhonda and various underground happenings in the sprawling southland have taught him some valuable lessons. if he can deliver this many distinct sounds on a single record, we cant wait to hear what’s next.

dustin zahn has gained over 10 years of experience a unique musical diversity as a producer and as a performer. after his recent release on drumcode he is on suara with this enormous ep. *calm like a bomb* is a constant and regular bomb dropping that if you start dancing it will leave you exhausted. it is such a powerful track! this amazing track comes backed with two remixes from two of the best producers in the worldwide scene: paco osuna and slam. osuna does an incredible groovier and darker production while slam brings the cut to another techno level. this is definetely one of the eps of the year!

mike wall has become a regular guest at the our club, the suicide circus, and this is for a reason. his sets are banging, and so are his productions. when rain falls on a1 is a techno monster with a daf-influenced bassline ripping it. the black chamber on a2 comes along as a dark and spooky tune with lots of playful sounds in it. on the b-side the black chamber is being turned into a superfunctional and effective dancefloor weapon by samuel l. session in his remix.

the first release is always a big milestone for any label. in our case the first one (astrac ep) is also a long anticipated one, the title track waiting to be released for a long time. so far there is nothing ordinary about ztrls career as he had a big fan base without a single release or a dj gig. as a result of his ongoing inspiration by ricardo villalobos and encouragement from a:rpia:r s petre inspirescu among others he sharpened his producer skills which yielded astrac ep, another 2013 release on pluie/noir recordings compilation (pluie/noir year one) and an independent release on soul.on records titled >soul two< which was also remixed by the hungarian laurine frost. on top of his producer activity hes an avid record collector and a regular guest on uks rejam radio show, hes also done a podcast mix for the romanian nightclubber webzines unknown 500 series.

lphs second record of the year is quite a doozy. once again, label co- founder/owner, jacques renault, steps up to the plate, equipped with some tnt laced with his special sauce.

wolf + lamb & john camp are no strange bedfellows. in 2013 john contributed to tracks on wolf + lamb records, including his remix of soul claps need your lovin and his work on no regular plays birdfeathers making him a seminal part of the family.

the label from the bunker, new york, kicks off with a long-awaited debut ep from leisure muffin, aka michael hopkins, a regular attendee and performer at the party since it first originated in 2003. check!

release number 004 on lokee musik comes from long time collaborator and regular behind the decks at lokee events gavin herlihy. gavins music has been a constant feature on some of underground house and technos most iconic labels since 2006, and were very excited to add him to the lokee musik roster.

italian dj legend dj rocca (from the infamous maffia club) joins forces with file under disco to produce a stunning ep of original new disco sounds. as one half of erodiscotheque alongside disco superstar dimitri from paris, and as a regular collaborator with danielle baldelli the grandaddy of the cosmic sound, dj roccas disco credentials are firmly in place. for this release, he captures the classic sound of disco funk on *love power*, but gives it a modern production twist and re-spins it for the contemporary dance floor. on the remix front, the one and only dimitri from paris rolls out one of his heavy-hitting, prelude-style nightdubbin mixes of *pizza on wednesday*, which will have your dancers beating the street for more. while dicky triscos dance floor intentions are obvious as he hits the boogie button with a hands-in-the-air retake on *a magical day*.

for its fifth release, brstl continues on its mission to unearth fresh and exciting artists from bristols electronic music scene, this time showcasing the debut release from idle hands employee shanti celeste. regular clubgoers in the city will have almost certainly heard her display her penchant for heavily swung rhythms in her dj sets, and her 12-inch for brstl manages to distil this passion into two elegantly produced house music groovers. recently unveiled on outboxxs podcast for resident advisor, the soulful new jersey-esque skip of >need your lovin< (baby) takes up the a-side, its gliding rhodes chords and playful melodies being propelled by a tough and irresistably funky beat that kerri himself would be proud of. over on the flipside, >result!< offers up a more heads-down vibe, channelling those swung beats into an upbuilding, synth-smeared house jam.

the voyager camp proudly presents their second release, this time packaged as a two part series with both editions crafted by the ever capable troy gunner. undoubtedly one of the most talented producers rising through the ranks, the two part ep is a testament to his versatility while showcasing a diverse range of influences. both tracks feature regular and well-known collaborators, rowl and synkro, and the record conveys an even deeper side to all parties involved, signifying a move away from the traditional arrangements seen today in favour of originality.

(resident advisor #1 label of the year 2012, amongst many other accolades), *spit* is the first in a trio of related releases from morelli due on hospital productions in the coming months. the album features 8 electronic variants, from house and industrial tape experiments to saturated metallic beat tracks. mastered and cut by matt colton at alchemy. there is so much that could be said about ron morelli, his l.i.e.s. label, or the fact that his debut album comes to you via hospital productions, but instead, here are some words from the man himself: i m a regular guy, enjoy a good steak, drinking beer, and occasionally a game of pro basketball, republican talk radio ... you know ... all the good stuff.

love fever, the infamous and erogenous east london discotheque and record label returns with some late night works in the form of ron jason and kim ann foxman s the dream project ep . after ron jason s paradise garage evoking and much played paradise lost (with love fever regular larry heard remixes) caught the ear of label bosses alex & andy last year with its depth and sincerity, ron was tracked down, discovered as italy s enigma simoncino and connected with brooklyn s fly girl and modernist diva kim ann foxman to explore possibilities in house.

on and on the amsterdam based artist and events agency recently launched their new musical venture on records with an ep from jeff rushin & nicole rosie. 001 received a wealth of warm support and today on returns with its new release from fellow dutch artists, doka & shltr.
for 002 on takes a trip to the south of the netherlands (via amsterdam). doka is a name on the on rise. his uncompromising, relentless productions has already seen release on wolfksuil and android muziq and he a regular on the dutch techno circuit. dub techno is the first love of shltr and his own production style also touches on ambient and electronica. together the pair form an impressive partnership, melding their sounds and styles in perfect harmony to create two stunning original tracks in skarn and sovite. keeping it dutch, on welcome darko esser in his tripeo guise on the remix of skarn. the wolfskuil and balans boss has been blazing a trail with his ltd vinyl only tripeo series and is now taking the act on the road. here he takes skarn on a beautifully powerful acid-laced trip that is certain to please.

liverpool based andy ash hits the saft imprint with two excellent analog house jams. the overall sound andy comes up with, hints to the early machine driven house sounds from the late 80s on the a1 in love whilst transitioning into the more jammy house sound andy has been purveying on his string of latest releases on his a2 jam called black stem.on the b side saft regular kastil provides andy ashs >in love< with a heavy machine rework. kastil proves he has been crafting and perfecting his production skills with some new hardware gear. this remix hold the intense feel of a 4am sweaty club session. all and all saft proudly present the 5th installment in their series of pure and all round house releases.

an imperious opening gambit from the manchester collectives new label: a multi-pronged, vigorous, top-notch, house-techno showcase. the ep chugs straight off to the dance-floor, courtesy of the juniper duo at its darkest yet (after sides for ominira, underground quality and smallville), with jamming, filtered synths, echoing claps and vocals, and a b-line stealth attack. a regular at meandyou club nights, sul makes his recording debut here with a craftily delinquent and unhinged synth-pop… gone quite wrong. true to form, none other than kassem mosse — who played a night back in 2009 — turns in an instant classic, audacious and grimey, before collective mainstay heron rounds up proceedings with some deep n bleak, spectral techno, bathed in best basic channel traditions.

after a bit of a hiatus, roots unit return with some deep house hybrids from their bulging vaults. learn to love is a melodic dub-house / techno infused big sound system warmer that comes from a studio session with former 2 lone swordsman keith tenniswood and will be familiar to those who tune into tim sweeneys beats in space show on the regular. morning sequence is a lovely early morning hypnotic slinky electronic house jam that gets under your skin and into your mind. this latter track is mutated into a heavy floor filler by mark e in full on peak time mode.

johanna knutsson and fellow swede hans berg are finally back on board and bringing a fantastic new release to klasses schedule. donka/mosquitoes is a wonderful work of melodic techno and features remixes from bristol native, october and bass culture/kontra regular joel alter

first up sees the new methodology track in full on dance floor assault mode - serious break-fuelled techno with rolling drums, off beat funk elements and big stabbing chords moving in and out of fx laden atmospheres at a fairly furious pace. the b side introduces yet another incredibly talented producer from the iridite stable - mike singleton is a regular dj at glasgow s internationally famous monox club as well as being one of the chief tech-heads and all round music know-it-alls at rubadub records. his track here will appeal to anyone who likes to be genuinely shaken up by a track - it s got the lot - cutting edge production techniques, heartfelt melody, intricate and complicated programming, bassline turning and twisting almost inside out, fantastic fx, but most of all >the funk<! methodology round things up with another mutant house/techno hybrid track - all shuffly percussion, filtered samples and a mournful, string laden climax, layered with weird bleep-ing riffs and super-sub bass

when it comes to fusing the classic sounds of 90s us house and uk garage, dale howard is our man! like on his previous bounce back ep, his new phase 4 ep is a great example of house and garage, with raw subby bass lines, kicking drums combined with smooth hypnotic chords and a well balanced deepness. ready for phase 4?
dale has been delivering the goods for quite some time now and it becoming a regular guest on top labels like local talk and noir.

time for one of freeranges longest standing regular producers to return to the label for his first ep in three years. the stepping tones ep is absolutely classic shur-i-kan from start to finish with two original tracks plus a remix from the very excellent berlin newcomers kim brown.

after sides from matthew burton, seuil and albert schwartz, sammy dees ultrastretch label returns in 2013 with volkan akin. a regular presence at berlin institutions like club der visionäre, akin has been slowly rolling out his brand of prickly, spaced-out club tracks since the end of the last decade, both under his own name and as v for volkan. but if volkan akin has up until now been unfamiliar beyond germany, his ultrastretch debut, voltage, featuring an absolute beast of a ricardo villalobos remix, stands to turn more than a few heads in his direction. densely packed and intricately constructed, voltage is an extended groove you can get lost in. cymbals ring softly amidst whirrs of faintly melodic clicks, scratches and voices. but at the center of akins churning, percussive arrangement lies a warm and weighty kick sure to keep dancers pinned to the floor. like so many great perlon records, voltage can be taken as a deeply considered exercise in sound design or as a deadly club track simultaneously, with akins musical sophistication and knack for an inviting beat working hand-in-hand. the original mix spends over 11 minutes unraveling, but as you fall further into the swirl of akins interlocking rhythms, youre likely to stop counting. a shorter constant voltage mix evokes sunrise, pulling back the originals heft to reveal gorgeous pads and hints of organic rhythm. ricardo villalobos, sammys longtime label mate at perlon and a producer who likely needs no introduction, digs deeper into the thump at the heart of voltage on his acdc remix. focusing on the originals wisps of melody, villalobos turns in a warm, zoned-in remix that feels of a piece with the singular techno trips found on his recent lp dependent and happy

with uncompromising deliberation jerome sydenhams imprint ibadan records forges its way through the overcrowded world of electronic music in search of diamonds. case in point: quell with his debut solo album them crowd kids. this montage of house music is a fitting addition to a label that has featured some of the worlds most poignant, illustrious and visionary dance music producers, including the likes of dennis ferrer, kerri chandler, joe claussell, function, joris voorn, and radio slave to name a few.

while we have a strong crew of regular artists that define a lot of what circus company is about, we are of course always looking ahead and all around us as well.
