power station continue to present their penchant for dark dance club sounds as the third edition of the kris baha-led imprint looks to another melbourne local by way of lochlan denholm aka disrute. after surfacing on the labels sampler debut just last year, reflexivity sees lochlan a chance to explore his style of twisted, pulsing homage to new wave and motorik throb. anvil landing wastes no time laying down intentions. sparse friendly drums are met with a modulating bass line and lazy arpeggio, an incessant sonar pulses and drum rolls intensify. snorkel continues the mid-tempo intensity, distressed kick counterpoint with aggressive stabs that rise and swirl before reaching a powerful climax, a track reminiscent of the 2000 s turbo-charged italo disco edits. on the flip we see japanese supergroup mascaras, made up of chida and 5ive (cos/mes) tackle unreleased kabutops. vocal fans of disrute s kabu track from the label sampler, here mascaras provide a fast paced acid-heavy reinterpretation, intense yet restrained with erratic drum trickery taking disrute to techno territory. finally, disrute reflects with title track reflexivity. digital arpeggios and a brooding one note bass work around curt cress style harmonic drums, a low slung piece for the early evening. hand drawn picture sleeve and label, a complete package that signals exciting times for power station ahead.

the first track, moaning, has a linear feeling at the beginning: a layer of bass lines makes your feet move instantly until some subtle piano sounds come in at the perfect moment. it creates an atmospheric vibe and when the bass kicks in again, everything seems to fall into place. cosmjn�s interpretation is, as expected, more serious and it has a no-nonsense approach: stripped of the melodic piano sounds, a strong bass line takes over, which makes for an interesting contrast to the original track.
if moaning was a more gentle track, fr sa su is a little bit different: dance floor oriented, the rhythm is certainly higher and it has some intriguing background sounds that go hand in hand with the powerful bass that grows on you from the start of the track. the florian meffert remix closes this ep and it goes out on a strong note: it is a complex track with very different elements and sounds that complement each other just right to get things going.

nyc loft trax exploded onto the scene a year ago with a white label containing unreleased dat tape archives from the 1990 s. people lost their minds and it proceeded to sellout of shops in what seemed like minutes! with anything that is from an unknown lost world you have your doubters, but those that know could hear and feel the validity of these authenthic tapes. you seriously could not capture the vibe that obviously was witnessed on that record. the label continued to dig into various sources to release all types of unreleased and amazingly good records. so with the integrity we see this label exercise get excited as this is another selection of lost yet found 1990 s dat tape trax! this is the real deal, let s not kid ourselves now. lots of hot heat on this one containing deep, dubs and disco! side note: the city in particular has a nu groove records story attached to it. basically it is the instrumental of an unreleased remix. that s all we have been told on that one. interesting! grab this now! expect this to go fast!

zarenzeit is a band project by the label owners with lead keyboarder and producer george btp, also known as allstarr motomusic or dan piu. after several live projects back in the 90ies, the band releases its first full album as black inside with vocalist debra jones davis and sarignia bonfà. the lp infuses deep soulful house and 80ies funk elements, starting with the ambient house drift of time travel, which soon settles into a classic rare synth pop as 2souls, 1heart, while let them know they won blasts more into the spacy and light dancefloor. sarignia s lovely gospel version of talk about a child, ends the album on a spare, but no less grooving, note. quality house music not only for adults.

damien lynch enjoys countryside a drive in the twilight hour. this is his second offering for the esp institute. on side a, brunette opens with a straight-ahead techno thump of hi-hats and a pulsating 16th-note bassline�a subtle playing field composed solely with a rare 1970�s italian machine, the godwin drummaker 32, unearthed from the secret back room of a music shop in rural ireland where it hid among wonderful vintage russian synths and oddball electronics. this elegant track drips with warm and phasing pads, gentle staccato keys and beautifully simple arpeggios that blur every now and then�all affirming damien�s less-is-more ideology. with side b�s forced relax, damien continues to exercise his restraint, arranging his instruments in a band-like fashion, affording each player the sonic space to project their individual qualities whilst supporting an overall dialogue. there is a soft ebb and flow to every machine�s role, whether the swelling of bass or the interplay of percussive keys, but when these characters arrive in one place, the result is a tranquil euphoria. these two songs will accept you for who you truly are.

heavy sampling tends to drive this jeep and give it some character, many popular/unknown gems lifted from various dusty tapes and wax procured from thrift stores and vinyl throughout northern florida, cheap drum machines are clumsily slammed against it all and keep everything in a familiarly dance-y zone, while amateur chords and melodies are provided via guitar center synths and youtube ripped commodore 64 blips and stabs (note the cheeky nintendo voices as outliers). a fusion of analog discoveries and pixelated memories (melded together by the relentless florida heat), its an apt soundtrack for long and wistful road trips.

the second of this year�s smd singles on their own delicacies label is features another two original tracks, leading with the hypnotic, late night techno loping of �remember in reverse�, drenched in glistening synths. the second track, �soft attack� takes a much more direct approach, with a brash battering of crash cymbals on every 4th bar marking time as a sinuous synth melody curls around the rhythmatic trunk. �soft attack (drum version)� pares it down even further, excising the melody for a minimal dj tool. also included here is a remix of �remember in reverse� from 90s mid west techno legend, dj hyperactive, who we�re super excited to have on this release. he extensive 11 minute rework transforms the track, sprinkling it with subtle doses of acid. after a short hiatus following their modular-only, desert recorded last album �whorl�, during which smd s james ford found himself on production duties for everyone and their dog, smd are back with bunch of techno cuts on their own delicacies label. over a couple of months in jas shaw s newly re-located synth-dense studio in leafy kent, which saw smd once again experiment with live jams as the basis for their production, they�ve pulled together a selection of eight tracks for release as a series of four singles over the coming months. smd fans will note that the earlier naming convention of delicacies has fallen by the wayside � for the simple reason that we�ve pretty much run out of weird and wonderful food stuffs to steal names from. instead, a semi-random automated process has been used to create the track names.

rediscovered 80�s british acid house gem �cortina kidz� recently made a serious impact on andy butler�s mr. intl with remixes from factory floor and juan maclean & tim sweeney. hot on the heels, moscow�s lipelis� steps in to remix with striking results. pitchfork enthused of the recent reissue being �a chilly acid-house track operating the influence of both soft cell and the specials,� xlr8r as �drenched in dark and sleazy overtones, the track encapsulates a downtrodden time in london�, while ransom note noted �cortina kidz is more than just an old skool oddity- it s a banger that s stood the test of time�. originally recorded on london�s stoke newington road in 1987, produced by a young tim brinkhurst ahead of his imminent record deal with virgin records with his band soho, and long before his current role as manager of mercury prize winners, young fathers, �cortina kidz� remained undiscovered and the eccentric spoken word overlay and weird lead vocal made it very unlike the prevailing dance music sound of the time. leonid lipelis explains that �since it�s a reissue of a relatively unknown record it gave me a certain freedom of expression (when it�s something well known and classic you re likely to produce something more serious). i came up with more of a pop song, structured with a vocoder for the main version and had fun playing with vocal samples for the dub mix, paying homage to the 80s sound in both.- lipelis� recent release on lies records has gained him support from four tet to dimitri from paris. he also runs a side project for hardware jams called tmo and co-runs low budget family records.

�prÉvision #02� is the second compilation and third vinyl of forecast label, french record label originated in 2012. it gathers six house, electronica and techno tracks in varied styles for various artists. the original idea was to make artists exchanges ideas together to create tracks that would exactly define each one�s identity. while cheaper shepherd�s �weasels� show again their shiny and catchy vintage house, romain play explores several music genders through a train trip across jazz, psychedelic rock and house. the new comer roman s releases his first track ever, showing his talent for groove and minimal house. on the b-side, d°c, breilitz and sir squi explore three kinds of techno. first track of this side, �erebus� shows a kompakt-like new wave but club-oriented techno. �raw interference� could without any doubt be played at berghain. last track, �(crashed)� is on the psychedelic slope of techno. it uses a sitar, to ends the compilation on a shinier note.

the organ grinder mints his new record label with a bulked up reissue of a gem from his back catalogue that will make djs - and dancers - very happy. far from throwaway, this is music rooted in the 90s us garage sound of kerri chandler, masters at work and early todd edwards, with the intensity of true deep house and the light rhythmic touch of ukg. obsession originally came out almost 5 years ago, but there s simplicity in its skittering rhythm and a mantra of rising minor-note synth hits that keep it burning into the dancefloor. x rated hits like its inverted counterpart, with a more heavily weighted drum groove and garage stabs that spiral down your spine. physicality finishes the ep with cunningly-sampled soul music, sung notes of passion belted out over a tense background of keys and rhodes chords, weaving an atmosphere that only comes out of expertly woven harmony

love notes from brooklyn is proud to present a brand new and promising young american artist in the form of tape hiss. these three moody and emotive tracks fit in perfectly with the label sound love notes has been developing over their last few release. the panic in needle park, the clear standout track, begins the ep with gloomy synth washes at a chugging, pitched down speed. that track is then ably reworked by fellow brooklynite, willie burns, of lies and wt records, who breaks the beat up for a stunted and unique reinterpretation. on the flip, love is a dog from hell brings a little acid to the proceedings, and traces to nowhere closes it out on consitantly dark and moody note. literates will note the bukowski references throughout. another winner for this label

parallax 03 - this upcoming release on parallax features two fresh cuts by yogg on the b-side, and the first taste from his new collaboration with another tel-aviv based producer -pharaoh. 460 is a 10 minute run of subtle deep atmospheres and flucuating dub sequences. for now shows yoggs more violent techno style with its accentuated offbeats & industrial leaning patterns. oo-oo brings this one to closure on a quite but powerful note, with a more lush texture and subtle serial sequencing.

red laser is back with a blinder. a set of hardcore manctalo uniting manchester & paris. kid machine returns to the label with a sci-fi chugger done in his unique deep style. tommy walker 3 turns on the lasers and tears down the rave.alan dente from the infamous les yeux orange crew rips classic vocals for some classic sunrise sound tracking. red laser stalwart starion closes the ep on a reflective italo-noir note.

the energy and versatility were used to when reinier zonneveld takes the decks is immediately evident in his latest ep. opening preceedings with sharp bust, a straight and to the point trancy bassline leads the way. decked by mechanic stabs and hi-hats, the groove is simply hypnotic and relentless. rushchamber, on the other hand, bears a subversive groove, with a minimal and dark bassline. glitchy cut up vocals give an eerie feel, as the whole atmosphere becomes more and more immersive by the way of multi-layered drums. the final offering, flatchat is anything but flat. its intricate groove shares the dark and immersive territory of the previous track, while another set of cut up vocals draw instant attention. a descending lead padded with reverb and stabby synths, the last track rounds up the release, ending on a grave and intense note.

delving further into what makes this reverent vancouver trio tick, 1800hs reveal a deeper, smoother side to their production that still packs a punch, whilst exploring more tender themes. twitching, rhythmic acid lines flicker over water-tight drums on *dreamer*, crystal synths rise out of the raw depths on *heldled*, and *drained* ends the proceedings on a melancholic yet emotionally ambiguous note, floating through seas of illuminating pads and steadily drifting towards the horizon.
