the bush is a homage to the place where i have lived for the last decade (askew road). the askew road itself is slowly changing so i wanted to document all the places that play a big part in mine and my families lives before they eventually get sold for more flats or tescos. first up was peckings studio 1 record shop, which has been on this stretch of road since the 1960s. next up is the mighty sun pub which became a local talking point when they sold the place because a sign sat in the window that announced this bup is close.

after waiting 3 long years, and finally getting the multi track session to do a b side, im proud to present the star blazers cover version of the masterpiece danger zone which was originally done my midnight express. many should be familiar with detroit producer recloose, while back in new zealand he assembled a band who called them selves star blazers (an ode to the 70s legendary japanimation series and a big hit on bostons tv38.. indeed recloose is from massachusetts) and they recorded a few cover tunes.upon hearing this i knew it was special. while most modern covers miss the mark, purely emulating and sounding like a cheap imitation, leaving me wanting to just play the original. they flip the tempo, swing and vibe, straight up owning this and making it their own.

despite only a few releases, the electronic deep house sound of vibraphone records and the production team behind it had a major impact on the international 1990s dance scene. the original 90s vinyl are now considered precious collectors items. revitalized by an increasingly new young audience interest this label has reached a cult status and it is now been re-launched via juno records. produced by the true underground sound of rome team all the tracks included in this rereleased are characterized by a heavenly atmosphere and a cinematic sound. this 2x12inch ep contains the analog re-mastered version of the original 6 tracks first released in 1992 plus 2 new bonus tracks.

for the past few years, young denmark vessey has been releasing a series of albums, both as a leader of carious groups and as a sideman in various others, which definitely mark him as one of the most exciting young players in music. vessey’s last album prior to this (2013’s cult classic) employed scud one for the rhythm section. vessey, in his own playing suggest that he may be forging a link between the new mainstream and prior innovations. it is to vessey’s credit that this album achieves a surprising degree of unity. there is little of the haphazard feeling that too often arrends blowing sessions by pick-up bands. it would be easier to mistake this for a group which works regularly. part of that is simply because vessey is a part of the new mainstream, the part that is seeking beyond the accepted common language to find ways of extending it. the rest is because of vessey’s unusual talent.
