rediscovered 80’s british acid house gem ‘cortina kidz’ recently made a serious impact on andy butler’s mr. intl with remixes from factory floor and juan maclean & tim sweeney. hot on the heels, moscow’s lipelis’ steps in to remix with striking results. pitchfork enthused of the recent reissue being “a chilly acid-house track operating the influence of both soft cell and the specials,’ xlr8r as “drenched in dark and sleazy overtones, the track encapsulates a downtrodden time in london”, while ransom note noted “cortina kidz is more than just an old skool oddity- it s a banger that s stood the test of time”. originally recorded on london’s stoke newington road in 1987, produced by a young tim brinkhurst ahead of his imminent record deal with virgin records with his band soho, and long before his current role as manager of mercury prize winners, young fathers, ‘cortina kidz’ remained undiscovered and the eccentric spoken word overlay and weird lead vocal made it very unlike the prevailing dance music sound of the time. leonid lipelis explains that “since it’s a reissue of a relatively unknown record it gave me a certain freedom of expression (when it’s something well known and classic you re likely to produce something more serious). i came up with more of a pop song, structured with a vocoder for the main version and had fun playing with vocal samples for the dub mix, paying homage to the 80s sound in both.- lipelis’ recent release on lies records has gained him support from four tet to dimitri from paris. he also runs a side project for hardware jams called tmo and co-runs low budget family records.

federsen returns to fifth interval for another sublime instalment of dance floor friendly dub-techno. dewpoint is an altogether tighter affair when compared to the label s first release, point reyes. the drums are taut and razor-sharp, propelling the listener effortlessly through a dense fog of ferric clouds, swelling to fill the outer-reaches of the echo chamber. a highly polished metallic production style that can be compared to some of andy stott s early and classic works. tomas rubek remixes dewpoint for the b-side, remaining faithful to the original track s structure but viewing it through a tinted lens. dewpoint s chords become iridescent, kick drums fall into a straighter pattern and are backed by further dusty percussion, shifting the original into spheres inhabited by the likes of rod modell and fluxion.

brilliant and conceptual reinterpretation of coldfish debut album on all inn records. the orphans remixes contains 8 different approaches of 8 geniously artists from the modern electronic music scene. just as the original release this album is also beautifully composed and it shows a large scale of shades from experimental electronics by the ambient-electronica heroes lenta and eril fjord, through the well-known techno statues of all inn records: verrina & ventura, kamran sadeghi, roger gerressen and andy kolwes until guest remixers like s.a.m. and peter dildo (rozzo, mountain people). first class material, all in one! must have!

people must jam have an undisputed three for three on the score board, and it comes as no surprise that this serious second innings in the floor jammers va series is heading straight for the outfield too ! it s a truly international affair, as chicago disco don rahaan takes the lead with an irresistible uptempo jazz-funk rewire while uk producer andy ash is next up to the plate, rearranging and amping up a teddy p classic on the b, tokyo s beaten space probe takes on millie jackson s incendiary we got to hit it off (as recently hacked up by tom trago) bsp leaves in the best bits here as the powerhouse groove gets a respectful renovation. finally out in the sticks wrap it all up eighties fashion, as a slamming bassline led drum machine jam powers us to fourth base. strictly limited to 300 copies.

what better way to follow up andy meechams (chicken lips / emperor machine) huge gino fontaine originals than a duo of remixes from balearic chieftains pete herbert & stratus as one half of reverso 68 alongside phil mison, and in his own right pete has been behind a ton of mesmerising sunrise and sunset workouts, and he’s more than delivered here - crisp and club ready percussion, those stark punk-funkin’ guitars and his trademark synth work all conspire to cook up a storm on the floor martin jenkins and mat anthonys stratus outfit (remember their superb *spring tide ep* on aficionado last year ?) take a pop at the sublime konkondo on the flip and what a masterpiece it is ! a ten minute, utterly absorbing and expertly evolving piece, which flips the darker elements of the original into a mesmerising, cinematic, early 90s style balearic epic.

returning to the southern fried home, machine loving disco oddball andy meecham aka the emperor machine is back with a new single from his album, and it comes ahead of a full new ep in 2015. *pop the lid* comes with remixes by hotter than hot international talent jacques renault, with whom meecham has also collaborated on a new ep forthcoming on jacques lets play house label, and will come in the form of a hand stamped and numbered white label 12 inch, limited to 300 copies.
