bjorn torske is a special artist with a special name. he was born in northern norway where fishing has been the main industry for hundreds of years and his name literally translates as >bear cod<. even making dinner is unique in norway: you put the potatoes on to boil, go out to sea and catch a fish, then return to prepare the meal…this process is known as >kokning<. to say that northern norwegians do things their own way would be putting it lightly … to say that bjorn torske is making music his own way would be exactly right.

erdbeerschnitzel makes his debut on 4lux records! mr schnitzel is rapidly making name with his intense and funking house tracks that always seem to be looking for new directions. here he comes with deep slower paced electronical tracks combined with dusty house grooves. >suave< flows straight into the air. combining a fat and dirty infectious beat with crazy synth lines that reach and reach and develop in their own unusual way. the same goes for >360< and >ultimate margot< but in a more beat driven way. the sounds build and rarely get extinguished just to build nearly from scratch again. one for the real connaiseurs!

vibrations is a new label set up by christopher galloway and piers harrison of roots unit. the first release comes from the ever-dependable and very busy mark e, who drops two killer jams for the dancefloor. escape is a bassline driven banger that drops into a hefty loop half-way through – large. the flip, midnight fires, is a more introspective, techno influenced cut, with crazy jazzy drums and swirling synths. we are thinking about early morning dancefloors for this one. escape is also remixed by roots unit, who add chicago house elements within a reggae aesthetic.

the green door studio opened its (confusingly black) doors to glasgows vibrant music community at the end of 2007. set up by three glasgow-based musicians emily maclaren (michael dracula/the lady vanishes), sam smith (mother & the addicts) and jamie greer (park attack), who, sick of using other peoples clinical digital studios and being told by engineers >you cant do that..<, decided to create a musician-friendly space where >actually you can...<.
