a subtly appealing tape in a pink cover with an imposing artwork of highly erotic nuances: this cassette, originally promoted as candy-coloured sex-shop electronics, is the absolute gem of internazionale s discography and is clearly destined to become a timeless modern classic. together with the track the charnel house, included on the compilation ny dansk romantik, the excellent craftsmanship of elegy for the victors quickly evoked the loyal admiration of listeners worldwide who were captivated by its charm. this earned the danish artist a cult status and established him as an accomplished composer. the ambient music with an industrial flair of his earlier releases becomes organic in elegy for the victors and acquires life: a life depicting gorgeously melodious passages which tell a story of happy sadness or of sad happiness. such narrative is constructed by means of a lo-fi but majestic and emotionally charged sensitivity, gentle waves of haunting loops, cinematic samples and sweet maritime sounds which will hypnotise you. this is the long-awaited remastered vinyl reissue with a new artwork which, beautifully and more appropriately, captures the melancholic essence of a masterpiece of rarefied elegance.

rothmans turn to debutant producer dawn again, who strides onto the football-focused label with a confident grip of otherworldly hardware jams. as is customary on the label, the mood takes on a laid back approach to four to the floor grooves, with -coloured pens- kicking off proceedings on a soaring bed of psyched-out house optimism. while -the italian- may be moodier in its demeanour, it s still just as mellow in its delivery, capitalising on alluring wave synths and reverb swells to great effect. -plain of jars- takes a trippier direction with its bubbling fx and bongo-powered beatdown, and then -lavender- switches things up with a rolling breakbeat undercarriage and plush lead lines on top.

massive attack release two brand new songs, ‘come near me’ and ‘the spoils’. both songs are written and produced by massive attack’s daddy g and collaborator stew jackson and feature vocals from ghostpoet (on ‘come near me’) and hope sandoval (on ‘the spoils’). these new songs follow january’s release of the ‘ritual spirit’ ep, which was written and produced by the band’s robert del naja and collaborator euan dickinson. the video for ‘the spoils’ stars cate blanchett and is directed by john hillcoat, best known for his directorial work on films such as the road, lawless and the proposition.

fragil musique reaches the 20th release mark, and offers us a very special debut ep from a newcomer to watch. vidock lands on the label with an unusual three tracker, oscillating between intense breakbeat excursions and moody techno hybrids. -dub attack- is the main club weapon here. cycling around the drum loop, pads and samples build up to heavy tension moments, then fade away to fully unleash the force of the stripped down broken kick-bass groove. the pressure is strong and never stops rising, gradually bringing the dancer to a manic arms-shaking state, while sporadic laser synth shots and percussion hints sprinkle the track, smartly shaping its three-dimensional aspect. on the b side, dance music ufo - metamorph - is an epic journey through what feels like unexplored fringes of sample driven emotional dance music. movie-esque haunting voices and disturbing sirens set the vibe, inviting one to drift along this dark and coloured ride. fellow nantes native simo cell goes trippy on the remix, taking apart the most heady bits of the original and extending them into a deep and breaky piece.
