bodo elsel has only done a handful of records and the two that i have known and loved since 1998 were put out on playhouse, the excellent housey sister-label of mighty klang elektronik. one track in particular, discount baby, has always stood out in my mind as a high water mark in the sacred art of groove (you may have heard of it). punchy accents and resonant bass layered with trippy vocal loops, its dubby acid house of the highest order, made by a mysterious german lego-master, who the a&r team of mike mind and thomas st shindig managed to coax back into activity.
it only took bodo a year to answer mr. minds email, but he eventually delivered three amazing tracks... >haustier< revitalizes piano house. >mai< is incredible, and >mein haus< is one of the top few all-time expressions of the greatness/meaning of germany, putting it in the fine company of the autobahn, sven väth and christmas-market schwein. nice wibes!!
the icing on the cake was that bodo made it very clear he wanted no part in royalties or any of that business crap... he just wanted 42 copies of the record. yes. 42.

john tejada was marooned in los angeles in the summer of 82. a strange place to grow up coming from vienna austria. even stranger considering the lack of techno there in the 90s. in a land of glowsticks and desert parties, tejada stuck to his love and development of his own unique electronic sound. fast forward to 2007 when detroit area native josh humphrey was also marooned in los angeles. it didnt take long for the two to meet and connect the cables on their modulars into a system twice as big. the result is marooned, palettes newest collaboration between john tejada and josh humphrey. the trio of songs reveal three sides to the duos work. the title track, marooned, joins humphreys modular synth work with tejadas beats and soothing pads, the result being a slice of beat-driven melodic techno created in a city where such sounds are rarely heard. melodiac continues from there with a lighter mood, with humphreys modular melodies and tejadas signature stabs and rhythms. rounding out the three is concrete safari, which largely focuses on humphreys modular fm synth work that slowly evolves into a cluster of tribal sounds, modular birds and grainy goodness. humphreys knowledge of synths and programming is quite extensive. he currently works with la based big city music, a dealer of modular and boutique synthesizers. it is also a place tejada frequents to test most of his gear

belgian producers sierra sam & marcus vector return to their house-oriented project d.i.y. (dumb irresponsible youth) for three more sly, sexy groovers, with contributions from dop, big bully and markus fix.
while sam and marcus are generally known for their more techno-focused productions, last years house tools vol. 1 was a minor hit, with tracks included in ellen alliens resident advisor podcast, jay hazes recent fabric47 mix cd, and m.a.n.d.y.s charts. since then, they ve kept busy with their own toys for boys label, meanwhile sierra sam has co-produced the debut album by bloody mary on contexterrior.
still, they ve found the time to crank out these new elegant-yet-sleazy cuts, and while vol. 1 was purely instrumental, for vol. 2 they ve roped in some guest vocalists. first up is their collab with comrades dop (circus company, eklo, supplement facts). >kilimanjaro< features d.i.y.s tribal bounce combined with dops seedy, trent reznor-on-opiates vocal delivery.
the flipside has two versions of >suck my caulk<: d.i.y.s original elevates thelevel of melody and sunshine, weaving in the voice of big bully (known forhis work on spectral, get physical and vakant). markus fix of cecille offers his own interpretation, bringing the track down into deep house territory. placed in the right hands, these tools can do some serious dancefloor damage!

after the much-lauded altair nouveau 12 inch, released in association with dfa, solardisco returns with a fine three track ep from the slovenian boy wonder igor skafar aka ichisan. space patrol is a slice of lindstrom-inspired disco genius , robots from above nods to an italo influence while atanamamo is aimed square at the dancefloor with early support from the likes of aeroplane and pete herbert among others. with releases on eskimo, airtight and rare wiri already under his belt, a debut album (along with co-producer ule nakova) is due out early 2010 on nang, however, not before another release on airtight (with remix from bjorn torske no less), one on jisco/under the shade and a remix of legendary disco outfit space. expect to see/hear much more from ichisan in the very near future!

>the cockpit< is my personal favourite song of the chelonis album and it has taken my sleepless night (and days) to watch out for the right remixers. now that all new versions are ready, i m more than happy because all three fellows have felt the real vibe of the original song. a spezial thanx to ekkohaus who delivered two different mixes and spent a lot of energy and passion into these productions. and also merci to steve rachmad and paul woolford, guys who stand rather for techno, however improved their soul into creating passionated tech house! chapeau! creeping wave is xpansul and sweeter beat. three tracks of modern techno grooves. title cut is a monster gallop of bleeps and synth tweaks. strady bass assault! sweeter beat, aka roberto melero, is one of those djs that first started playing electronic sounds with an electro / techno root in madrid, he has played in some of the most important clubs in madrid, like voltereta or soma experimental club, and after nearly 20 years behind the decks, his sound is definitely influenced by the e.b.m. sound, funk, techno and electro from detroit to miami, and the good old rave spirit.

white label 12 inch on the hipster club tip. called a career making record by switch ? >somebody get pregnant< is a nasty, throbbing cut aimed straight for the club. it s a tune that s been floating around since 2008, and has everyone from mad decent (who tried to sign it) to three six mafia (who tried to buy the hook) clamouring for a piece. major lazer also featured the tune on their new essential mix for bbc radio 1. acapella and instrumental included as well. on the b-side, ninjasonik gives up a couple of cuts that won t be seeing proper release due to some sampling issues : >shoot the lazer<, a raunchy club tune that jacks the opening to a certain animated movie classic, and >daylight<, a bootie remix of the matt and kim song by the same name. rounding out the 12 inch is >stir<, a minimal dancefloor tune with stuttering, drunken style vocal takes. sweet!

andres is releasing an ep on kalk pets featuring three different versions of his track >ballad<. now if you re associating melancholy and a thousand tears with that title, you ll be taught better by the track itself. for this particular ballad is full of positive energies and sings anything but the blues.

yearning begins with strange and dark sounds but after three minutes holds the line with simple yet magnificent synth layers. in this track, kane is close to robag wruhme s delicate vision of techno music.

after the re release on clone and some hot tracks on lets pet puppies another one rescued production of marcus mixx from obscurity! mr mixx featuring project democracys is this dream for real? paired with 3 more of marcus tracks. these rare tracks were only heard mostly in and around chicago during the late 80s. is this dream for real? is a deep and moody chicago house track. deep, infectious bassline with a gorgeous female vocal, the kind of track that makes you instantly say, wtf? simple, timeless, effective. and so are the other three tracks. raw jacking house tracks just as we like it!

as an instrumental track all about love was released back in early 2008. to be found on the highly acclaimed big love ep from knee deeps love trilogy ep series. all about love received remarkable wide range club plays. and during the wmc this heavy clubtrack was the flavour of the month. in spite of everything the kneedeep guys couldnt let the track go. somehow they felt it could be a raving success if lyrics would be added. and beeing known for their big vocal workouts the kd duo teamed up with the voice of cafe del mar, misscathy battistessa! it turned out to be a more than fitting collaboration! knee deep and cathy - more than ever poeple battistess layed down this beautiful soul searching song for the summer season. three mixes will be served by ralf gum and mister lovebirds of kd fame himself. all about love is a must have and future classic tune.
