the motech label has been building a high reputation of late but it’s actually been three years since co-owner, detroit’s dj 3000 (franki juncaj) released a 12 inch of his own. putting that to rights, he delivers take me away, due for release in april and featuring a deadly remix by truncate. the original version of take me away is a deep and hypnotic builder with a relentless groove that stands astride detroit techno and tough house, a style that dj 3000 has championed over the years. truncate is the alias of audio injection (la’s david flores). his remix ups the tempo and adds an infectious vocal cut-up, turning take me away into a raw, hard-hitting cut. the truncate remix has already been picked up by eats everything for his new fabric mix, out soon, as well as receiving early support from dave clarke on his white noise radio show and ben sims on the october edition of run it red.

detroit pressed, official re-master another juan atkins classic from the incredible metroplex catalogue. the chase presents frenetic synth stabs and an electro back beat, further defining the new musical form, detroit techno. reworkings by derrick may add to the dance floor appeal of this classic. as fresh today as its original 1989 release.

nous klaer welcomes cosime, a collaborative project between longtime companions arif and job. their debut ep consists of three tracks, including an outstanding version of the a1. most of the record was recorded and arranged on several autumn days, home away from home, facing a freshwater lake. field recordings, made on a former island that is now a peninsula, provide the basis of the hilary ep. on the b side the recordings lay over solid drum programming, centred on the offbeat hat. on the a side fyr offers a more fluid take, resulting in a splendid play of samples and rhythms sewn together. the alternative take of fyr takes on an anything-goes approach, highly club appropriate though moving away from the rhythm backbone. excellent music for pedaloes.

this highly anticipated reissue should need almost no introduction: plustwo’s ‘melody’ / ‘stop fantasy’ 12” (and even 7” version) have long been sought after by both italo-disco and disco/boogie collectors and command high prices on both discogs and ebay.
both tracks represent some of the peak musical achievements of the vibrant italian music scene during the early 80s, skilled performance from talented musicians, tastefully arranged with perfect and unmistakeable vocals from belen thomas.
this reissue is the result of a dedicated effort by hysteric and mothball record, in cooperation with the band, to make this record available to a wider audience.

following the recent release of so low, a compilation of early ‘80s synth, industrial and cold wave classics and undiscovered gems curated by optimo’s jd twitch aka keith mcivor, the vinyl factory are set to release specially commissioned remixes of two tracks on the 16-track compilation by rising uk producer powell and hamburg’s helena hauff. powell’s pneumatic sound is perfectly suited to ‘49 second romance’ by german minimalists p1/e, which he deftly deconstructs, while hauff adds glistening synths to belgian electro-industrial group the klinik’s ‘moving hands’ for a driving, nocturnal version.

the 1978 record, which goes for up to $800 on the collectors market, comes with a lore all its own. the liner notes explain that at the time of its recording, davis was suffering from personal turmoil and a head full of memories from the vietnam war. the infamous jonestown, guyana mass murder occurred two days before the recording session and weighed heavily on his consciousness. the resulting electronic score would garner attention from legendary motor city dj electrifying mojo. in the early 80s, davis performed as 3070 in cybotron alongside juan atkins, laying the groundwork for detroit techno and electro with cuts like alleys of your mind. despite successful cybotron albums released on fantasy records, davis spent time penniless and abandoned in a v.a. hospital. the new 12inch version of methane sea was cut to lacquer straight from the original master tapes. davis currently lives in ypsilanti, michigan and works with music videos, fractal designs and cgi.

it’s been a while but hey-ho, coincidence is back on vinyl. the tracks we got from aussie based female dj trinity were simply too analog sounding, so slapping it on wax was the logical thing to do. the vinyl release adds remixes by two of our alltime heroes - steve stoll and daniela la luz. basically: the originals are deep and darkish, the steve stoll rework is a rework in one smooth jam so with plenty of energy while daniela’s version does it really smart and housey. so on with the friggin show!

one of the most charismatic and respected djs in poland, eltron (aka eltron john) presents what is probably the most expressely club-oriented record in transatlantyk history. his four track offering sounds much like his sets - ferocious and subtle, raw and sophisticated at the same time. the main mix of b&s blends druggy deepness inspired by the vibe of 90s tribal america with uk funky riddims, creating the sort of pneumatic house groove that never fails to get the party rocking. this simple, yet meticulously produced tune has already been road-tested and received enthusiastic feedback from a number of jocks around europe, and the vinyl version seems destined to strengthen its deserved banger-with-a-message status. the dub version of fuses layers of darker, industrial bleeps with a classic break and a rather healthy dose of echo. trippy and rough, yet exhilarating - it is exactly the kind of track you want to hear in a dark warehouse. switch to the b-side for the light , where sampled vocals, pitched-down drums and fuzzy pads are combined to form a unique specimen of lo-fi r n b, eltron-style. this hazy groove is guaranteed to guide dancers ever-so-gently into the light of the morning. finally, reprise exposes the bare bones of the original. with its dubby, in-your-face quality, it is one for the track heads, definitely.

den “nightcrawler”-soundtrack gibt es in zwei deluxe-lp-editionen. diese version gleicht der ausstattung von 39138151, jedoch ist das vinyl in streetlight yellow gefärbt (downloadcode inklusive). das cover hingegen ist völlig anders gestaltet. der illustrator ben holmes hat in zusammenarbeit mit schauspieler jake gyllenhaal eine neue interpretation des covers gestaltet. james newton howard gehört inzwischen zu den bekanntesten soundtrack-komponisten hollywoods. seine scores für “the dark knight” und “batman begins” (beide gemeinsam mit hans zimmer) genießen kult-status, er hat aber auch so unterschiedliche filme wie “pretty woman” und “the hunger games” vertont. ursprünglich war er session-musiker und verdiente seinen unterhalt als tour-keyboarder von elton john, bis er mit dem soundtrack zu “the sixth sense” eine eigenständige karriere realisierte.
als tatort-paparazzo-kameramann schlägt sich lou bloom (jake gyllenhaal) durch die nächte von los angeles, immer auf der jagd nach bildern von unfällen, verbrechen und mord. ein lebensstil der ihn prägen wird ... - der kult-film von dan gilroy beleuchtet die schattenseiten des urbanen lebens.

mit der veröffentlichung der 12 inch * accolade* ist der startschuss für ein neues label gefallen. empore music ist in kiel beheimatet und hat sich die produktion amtlicher house- und techno-produktionen auf die fahnen geschrieben. sehr begrüßenswert, von guter tanzmusik kann die welt nie genug bekommen! wie es gemacht wird, demonstriert uns gleich einmal avidus mit einem variantenreichen 3-tracker. hinter avidus verbergen sich fritz wagner und marc wolf. sie verbindet neben einer langjährigen freundschaft auch eine tiefe leidenschaft für elektronische tanzmusik und vinyl. was lag also näher, form und inhalt miteinander zu kombinieren und parallel zur band gleich die veröffentlichungsplattform empore music ins leben zu rufen? gesagt, getan. und so verdanken wir den beiden zum neuen vinyl auch gleich ein neues label.
