nausika are a duo, based in leeds, that are quickly rising in the ranks pushing their own blend of dark, stripped back drum & bass. after meeting at university only a year ago, they have already caught the attention of many of the top flight including teebees subtitles music. at only 21 and 19 years old, their futures bright, but their sounds quite the contrary.

millie & andrea are miles whittaker and andy stott, fellow labelmates at modern love who collaborated on an occasional series of 12inch releases between 2008 and 2010. its been four years since we last heard from them but they now return with drop the vowels, their debut album.

we’re really excited about this unusual ep from the unusually talented photomachine, his first outing on wicked bass. ‘black motorcycle’ a dark but deep number, measuredly working its way down into to a solid groove before it lifts its eyes skyward for a breakdown made up of delicate synthwork. ‘good news…bad dope’ is a more skittish cut, with its percussive elements laying low in the mix, whilst circling synths provide a menacing mood that juxtaposes itself with a well-placed vocal sample.

cottam is proud to present the first release on his new label, ruff draft. paul cottam came to wider attention with a series of limited edition blank-label 12s released from 2009 onwards, showcasing his production talents by re-working afro-beat, neo-soul, funk & hip-hop into deep house burners, but ruff draft is all about original tracks, and the first release sees three tracks from the man himself.

graze minerals possess a superlative lustre, which is most notably seen in diamond. such frequencies are transparent or translucent in nature, and have a high refractive index. tones with a true adamantine lustre are uncommon, with examples being cerussite and zircon. mweapon minerals display luminous bass bands, which appear to move as the specimen is rotated. such frequencies are composed of parallel fibers, which reflect sound into a direction perpendicular to their orientation, thus forming narrow bands of light. the most famous examples are fm and subtractive, but the effect may also occur in other sound banding - such aquamarine, moonstone and tourmaline. scrap minerals consist of thin transparent co-planar sheets. light reflecting from these layers give them a lustre reminiscent of pearls. such minerals possess perfect cleavage, with examples including muscovite and moss opal.

oberman knocks original version (white) is a laid-back affair housed within a glassy place of worship, echoing with monastic vocals, strings, wind instruments and field recordings, which are offset by synthetic beats, funk bass and entwined sleazy vocals.
in contrast autechres remix (black), panning out at just over 17 minutes long, is everything that you wouldd expect from the duo – a frantic, fractured and detailed to within an inch of its life piece, that has no need to build, but instead unravels and mutates into what is an unmistakable autechre crescendo.
whilst both versions play out at opposite ends of the tempo spectrum, what connects them is that they are both emotional machine music with guts and vigour.

fontarrians debut effort for berlin-based label antime offers a glimpse into a fragile yet eclectic spectrum consisting of loopy vocal bits, slowly unwinding washes of dream like ambience, distinctively (s)tumbling almost jazzy percussions and an ever-present, blissful warmth. the latter emanates from and sucks you into what seems to be a world of its own. like a lo-fi attempt at capturing momentary twists of the heart through 10 significantly diverse tracks - imperfect nonetheless - the album feels like a mixtape you ve set out to record for someone special, but somehow never got around to.

as a rave icarus turns to his companion and sighs, *we tried to touch the sun my friend, but we got burned...* these tracks leave a trail of scorched earth behind them while you stand bewildered in their smoking wake. nurture your most wayward desires to these sounds coming from god knows where, and inflict them on the innocent as soon as you can.

following his well received fabric mix comp in december 2013, ben sims returns to his own theory imprint with yet another ring release in the form of *reflection*, which features two original new tracks, a remix from rod and a vinyl exclusive. the eponymous opener is a strident, 909 + 707 driven affair that fuses overlapping, stereoscopic tones to a gently distorted and brutalist groove that sits somewhere between dance mania and detroit. *break glass* is the second original on offer and has been a heavily requested track for the past few months. the perfect partner to *reflection*, *break glass* is similarly overdriven but heavy on the sort of mechanical funk that sims does so well. rods version of *reflection* is a linear assault which ebbs and ows with purpose throughout a linear and intense arrangement while sims remix of *break glass* zeros in on bone rattling percussive aesthetics and vox samples, in much demand after featuring on his fabric mix cd.

following up the first release on his new monclova label, david alvarado (ovum, peacefrog, plastic city) returns with the second instalment *battle* hitting on his signature deep, dark techno sound. this 2 track release continues to explore around the edges of techno and deep house, not just crossing genre borders but erasing them completely.

winter is almost over but for the uy080 we decided to dip our label paint-brush deep into a potty filled with white. the painter is called ruede hagelstein and his work of art is simply called minus. a track with the charm of a winter-landscape, fully accomplished, crystal clear and warming like an analogue heater. wearing almost nothing and casted into a snow-white plate it will be a pleasure for all vinyl collectors.

the inimitable swiss duo lnf gear up for action once more here on leo leals unike muzik imprint, as they join forces with the label head himself for the quite brilliant sounds of the the cellar ep. dark and broody but with a firm dancefloor persuasion, the ep is one that very much plays to the strengths of all involved.

maricopa returns to back to the balearics to complete his stunning opus, pastel love. and he continues where he left off building deeply textured songs packed full of simple melodies that really shine. his music opts for subtle feelings and passing vibes over the more obvious structures of dance music. the release of part one led to a number of comparisons with the early work of aphex twin as well as more contemporary producers such as four tet. such comparisons dont come lightly, but pastel love demonstrates that a rare musical talent has arrived. the release again has beautiful printed covers and looks as good as it sounds. viva maricopa!

an imaginary country continues from the trajectory of tim heckers last album, the critically acclaimed harmony in ultraviolet, while also showing a few new tricks. tim has incorporated more pulses into this work and also works with a sound pallete including overdriven mellotron strings and synthesizer. at times this album is less overtly aggressive than previous works, but the notion that this is pastoral work would be dead wrong as there are plenty of the agitated crescendos that he is know for. this music backs off from the void of immensity in favor of a terrain of lushness and warmth.

eooo aka eomac is one half of dublin based duo lakker, but is also a dj and producer in his own right. releases on trilogy tapes and now touching down on hype label of 2013 unknown to the unknown … four tracks of blistering techno electronics recalling the career highs of errorsmith, zomby, arovane & phonem!

nice price deal !!! this 12inch contains some true oddities. frak is not known for doing remixes but here is one of the few that exists. a nice acid remix of dave id - soul reprise. also they did a special track to finish off the 2013 tours and heres the splendid studio version of phase.

with this second ep, the access affirms his love for a deep-house tinged soul and funk, but adds a few more sophisticated ingredients, with four tracks with singular universe for each night time.

marco bernardi has enjoyed a long an illustrious career, but its probably in these last couple of years that the glaswegian producer has found his sound. previous releases on frustrated funk, clone, royal oak, creme organisation, futureboogie and rawax have built a solid reputation, and key releases last year on carl craigs planet e and mos/delsin have sealed his rep as a unique player in the industry.

forgotten corner, khidja & cassini division first met on the desert planet of tatooine whilst attending a cosmic music festival at the galaxy renowned mos eisley cantina!…in a hash laden corner they bonded like wookies, jammed with the max rebo band & then roamed the desert plains of tatooine with the nomadic tusken raiders! no one knows exactly what happened but music ideas were exchanged & tracks were made ... here are two of them - rescued from tape, covered in cosmic cous cous purposely gathered by cassini from the rings of jupiter & smeared in hummus from the swamps of dagobah!

when luke solomon got in touch and said he wanted to work with local talk we felt both honoured and happy, especially since we have been fans for a long time and mats actually booked him to his raw fusion club in the late 90s. he has been around long enough to be considered a legend within the scene. we couldnt agree more. lost channels, a 130 bpm piano driven and punk-dubby new york inspired house track comes in two versions. the raw & stripped version is exactly what the name says, sharp snares & hi-hats, piano chords, a driving rhythm with lukes trademark percussion sprinkled on top. the live piano version is actually the original version and is peppered with more of everything. bubbly fx, more of that staccato piano and of course that muscular bassline. for remix duties it is the return of an old local talk friend, wil maddams. it seems like wil has spent some time in detroit since last time. this remix sounds like something that would come straight out of the d, his clever drum programming holds this track together with its deep pads and bubbling bassline. it is a retro (but fresh) techno jam for 2014.

tartelets latest comes from glenn astro. currently residing in essen, he has spent a bit more than half his life djing and producing, first in the realm of hip-hop and more recently with an ear toward dance music. after his first releases in this style in 2011 and 2012, glenn really went for it in 2013 with a trio of eps that showed hip-hops soul and house musics drive are in no way mutually exclusive. this 26-year-old may embrace the latter these days, but when you close your eyes and let his gritty low-end do its dirty work, you will hear plenty of the formers bump still kicking around in there.

datassette aka john davies has been recording music for over a decade, carving out a niche as a respected purveyor of electro and electronica. he has recorded and self-released an impressive discography from cd-r, net-labels and small independents, but it was his album for ai records in 2008 that first brought him to our attention. he has also remixed the likes of röyksopp, mark archer and al tourettes. datassette continues apollos tradition of releasing rich, musical electronica and follows on nicely from classic releases from the likes of robert leiner, biosphere, david morley and andrea parker.

amsterdam native mr mendel is one those cats you will find digging in the deepest vinyl crates but also one to hook up seriously tight edits. on his debut for basic fingers he has played around with gil scott-herons live version of *the bottle* as well as felas *roforofo fight*. with some smart tweaks and additional production mr mendel delivered a fantastic ep of soulful black dance music. just put it on and dance away :)

the central executives what can we say ? not much as it turns out - the generally very forthcoming golf channel crew are remaining tight-lipped about the architects of this, frankly mind-blowing debut long-player from this new nyc collective. a walk in the dark is exactly that, a situationist song-sheet & sonic chaperone to guide us through the back street escapism these troubled times demand. from gently over-driven punk funkin mascara stained hymns, to house that has been thoroughly smudged to the edges of its live music incorporating limits. sitting very comfortably, in a moment of stewed elevation alongside sound signature style machine jams, bare bones vocal led improvisations, discordant arthur russell moments & the distorted reflections of roots house that run to the very core of the big apple. a drop-jaw debut then, that wears its influences proudly, but takes them somewhere entirely new.

we have been a fan of motor city drum ensemble since the brooding and eerie >escape to nowhere< in 2007 - a track that sounded like someone had listened to > french kiss< on acid and then tried to recreate what they heard. so when we started re-issuing romanthonys classics with fresh remixes, mcdes danilo plessow was always someone we wanted to on the project. it has taken 2 years to organise this mix and now it is finally here it doesnt disappoint. taking on > trust<, most people would head straight for the vocal but plessow instead eschews that idea for a warm, low slung dub mix reminiscent of muzique tropique and early glasgow underground releases by studio blue. as a more dj-friendly alternative he also delivered a completely instrumental dub mix.

when the aquaplano records were first released in 2008 and 2009, emerging out of hardwax with little fanfare, they were distinctly out of step with the way techno appeared to be heading. the minimal detour was reaching its logical endpoint, and producers were returning to the 1990s for inspiration, with berghain and sandwell district at the vanguard of a new techno movement. what the aquaplano sessions shared in common were slower bpms and finding inspiration in the 1990s, but there they parted ways. the influences these italians were drawing on were rather different, returning to tribal rhythms and ambient textures to sketch out a much more heady, psychedelic form of techno.

legit vinyl re issue of kerri chandlers 1996s seminal trionisphere ep part 1 on nycs king street sounds. this is a discogs holy grail but this newly re mastered version will sound better than anything else! pressed with original 1996 artwork. expect many more king street sounds re issues in the pipeline.

nultd001 come signed by the argentinian alexander d niel, he starts with ellie, a world of drums, cymbals and synthesizers in a restless and powerful technos key. meanwhile, the swedish mattias fridell s remix shows us a smart and elegant construction of technoid rhythms performed in a depth and accurate way. kingdom is the second original track of alexander d niel, and where he shows his most aggressive side with a wrenching techno as a continuous sound storm. ungars remix respects the original tracks style but it breaks its rhythm giving more depth and versatility to a techno packed of groove.
