matthias puech composes electronic music, designs musical instruments and exlores the nature of computing and mathematics in a single artistic gesture. his music, a collection of contemplative stills of imaginary landscapes, is in major part composed on modular synthesizers and features unique experimental devices that matthias creates. these delicate sonic landscapes draw their inspiration from the physically of natural and animal sounds and form the beauty of mathematical concepts, being a research scientist by day.

the search from collocutor, the band’s second lp, is the story of a journey, from disillusionment to new beginnings, alienation to belonging, darkness to hope. it is a journey that can be interpreted as spiritual, emotional or physical/geographical, depending on the listener’s own experiences. tamar osborn, the band leader and composer says: “this wasn’t planned as a ‘concept’ album, but as the four main compositions developed they and their titles fell into a natural narrative order and the theme of the album became apparent. the three improvised conversations were an opportunity to explore musically the meaning of ‘collocutor’ - a person taking part in a conversation - and how this applies to performance, and also to expand the textural range of the ensemble by dividing it into smaller groupings and freeing the musicians from structured composition.”

much interest domestically and abroad has been generated over the years about an indie soul label in san diego, ca called musette records, whose short life span (1965-1968) only produced less than 20 singles, and no full albums. more than 40 years later, musette would achieve the collectible status among record buyers of northern soul, who recognize and appreciate the r&b grooves that pulsated on these now extremely rare singles.

halocyan outlines computer musics many future possibilities, while remaining actively mindful of its one and only history. having released material from such luminaries as dosem, paul woodford, oliver ho, extrawelt, and joey beltram - halocyan continues to assert its influence with their next record: a 2-part ep from apollo and r&s affiliate dave angel. founder of rotation records and originally hailing from chelsea, angel is a techno emissary whose intelligent, funk-licked productions have propelled him through a long and illustrious career through which he has consistently branded his own stamp on electronic music whilst also remaining highly relevant to modern listeners. it’s this that lends him perfectly to a record with halocyan who do what they do best in presenting his incoming ep: a sincerely-rooted collection that comes backed up by label favourite hackman on remix duties. portrait kicks things off with jubilant melodies rippling atop sharp, whetted percussion before minor-key sweeps bleed in and bring with them a degree of pensive tension. a buoyant bass line propels the track from dave angel incoming ep beneath before hackman offers up a deftly swung revision rich with his sturdy subs and idiosyncratic percussive flutters.

we continue the orb’s sin in space remix ep series with a third volume focussing on the duo’s latest full-length, the highly acclaimed cow / chill out, world! french producer keumel makes a poised vinyl debut on the inner balance imprint, with three originals of fine skipping house and a remix by imprints head domenico rosa. “laïka” is an afternoon space-walk in the vein of vintage derek carr, its synths, hats and mid-track acid line surfing light and breezy over a scudding, bumping bassline. rosa’s remix strikes a more contemplative note by placing a soft breakbeat under the acid line and airborne pads. “no chill” is a fast-tempo stripped-down house jam that kicks to the sound of the label’s father figure chez damier and his contemporaries. “space birds” rounds out the ep by building a slowburn groove out of which a lightly-warped acid line slinks part-way through.

rico puestel is in charge for our cocoon recordings 144th release. rico is an producer animal who released more than 100 tracks & remixes since 2005 under various project names such as dinamoe, central scrutinizer and of course under his main moniker rico puestel. the enormous amount of productions shaped ricos knowledge and taste and his new cocoon release neyst and enokid seems to be the logical result of his long journey through the techno-universe. puestels style is very unique and merges elements of dark and hypnotic mainfloor techno as well as orchestral sounds and even industrial elements. neyst is the perfect hypnotic and dark techno circle that keeps on progressing and building up into sheer madness. no fast food, no leightweight, this is heavy techno business! enokid comes with a little more of a chicago house vibe however it is again still deep in puestels very own style. we especially fancy the crazy break in the middle with the spaced out room effect part and the melody coming in after the break. as stompy and musclepacked this track is, it still seems to be very musical and deep at the same time - what a trip! this one demands a good and proper sound system, well what other cocoon release doesnt?

senso sounds drop a major release from techno heavyweight dubfire and label boss oliver huntemann. reuniting the partnership that has seen a string of seminal releases over the years in the form of their ‘elements’ series, ‘humano’ is the 2nd part of a continuation of this series - more weapons of grade dance-floor material from the high profile duo. later on this year their partnership will be summarized in their ‘restrospectivo’ album. former deep dish man dubfire’s uncanny knowledge of how to create epic dance-floor moments is in full effect, combined with huntemann’s precision tool production techniques on the original version of the title track. the result is a super tough, tight and incalculably driving slice of techno goodness that will ignite floors worldwide. the rest of the ep manages to maintain the pressure - with a set of sick remixes from victor ruiz, hatzler and shaded. ruiz, the brazilian techno pioneer adds another level of fire to the original, tweaking and refining the track into a damager that pushes everything to 11 and hits home with every play. hatzler, the hamburg based german dj/producer chooses a different direction - emphasizing more of the space in the original. rinsing the tension to the next level, look out for the epic middle section break down. the whole package is primed to destroy clubs far and wide - techno at its most effective. shaded’s summer skin remix also delivers a tightly wound interpretation, with a bubbling bass line and nervous, excited groove providing the fuel for an extended dancefloor excursion.
