experienced crate diggers are no doubt familiar with new birth, the 17-piece funk ensemble sampled on classic hip-hop records by wu-tang clan, de la soul, junior m.a.f.i.a., black sheep, lil wayne, ice cube, and many more. the genesis of new birth can be traced back to the nite-liters, a louisville-based instrumental outfit. founded in 1963 by motown songwriter/producer harvey fuqua and saxophonist tony churchill, the nite-liters released a handful of albums in the early 70s, scoring a few minor hits and perfecting the sound that would power new birth to further success as the decade progressed. while much of the the nite liters’ early material has been overlooked, their self-titled debut album is worth revisiting. originally released on rca records in 1970, the nite liters is a raw, soulful masterpiece that has been sampled by kmd, ghostface killah and others.

we re really excited to be able to put one of our favourite ever wotnot releases to wax. it s a release that makes us particularly proud as we convinced k15 to let one of his house tracks out of the archive for the first time ever, as well as securing one of the few tracks to have been heard from up-and-coming wunderkind glenn kelly (jeeks), before he retired early from the circuit. four years after it dropped digitally, featured artists k15 and imyrmind have become household names, releasing music with eglo, wild oats, tartelet and money $ex records among others. this re-release also includes a new track from sexruleseverything who also featured on the original release. the tracks on this ep still stand strong, and the vinyl drops alongside the release of dancefloor sweets vol. 2, with more to come in 2017.

deep, storming salegy sounds from madagascar. salegy is the electrified updating of the traditional antsa style from the north-west of the island — 6/8 rhythms, layered with percussion and call-and-response vocals — and the vetson’ androy group one of its most popular proponents. from 1978, mavandeza has the heady urgency of killer fela — with two women singers out front, psychedelic organ and prowling-lion bass. the flip is from a decade later, by malagasy superstar eusebe jaojaby — rough and tough dancefloor worries, with a mazy string-line, mash-it-down percussion and lilting flute. another sizzler from sofrito.

phlowgod returns to salt mines for the labels third outing. fracking head first into the sweat stained catacombs with the 20062 ep. slowed down club burners and pneumatic drum machine workouts leave us with a sweat soaked slab of wax.

patiño is one half of fluxus-techno outfit n.m.o. along with drummer morten j. olsen, with releases on the death of rave, where to now? and - shortly - diagonal. a frequent evol collaborator, he has been highly active in the field of contemporary electronic composition, releasing his music on labels such as anòmia and lateral addition, as well as directing videos for powell and not waving.

anton pieete is known for his classic, textured take on house & techno. the dutchman has spent recent years exploring the reaches of his analogue set up, releasing a string of hugely popular eps for joris voorns rejected imprint. now he turns over his latest wares to ovum, with another impressive offering in the shape of themenu. while it may be our starter, first dish peven is definitely more of a main course. heady and intoxicating with itspercussive, funky drums and undulating keys, its carries us on its woozy wave of rich analogue bass. our appetite is further satisfied by the deeper sophisticated tones of lite green. its malleable, swinging groove is governed by its pulsating bassline and dense kick-drum as lazer synths sweep and claps fire on thisclassy cosmic jam. bn300s dramatic and ghostly strings are at odds with its frenetic bouncing bass melody and yet together theywork in complete harmony to create our final musical indulgence from the menu.

*isigude (pronounced - e-see-goo-de... meaning bird of paradise) is a newly founded record label based in athens, greece. for our debut release we have dug deep into the archives of greek jazz fusion to unearth and reissue some obscurities from the catalogue of esteemed composer michalis rakintzis. rakintzis should need no introduction to greek ears, widely recognised as a celebrated composer and lyricist since the 1980s with his career taking in more than 20 personal albums, numerous singles and several high profile collaborations. his composition “arrest”, lifted from 1988 s ost to the film -lifelong- was selected and included on the hugely popular greek music compilation -into the light- in 2012. for isigude s first 12- vinyl release we draw our focus to the 1987 track “i don’t believe” featuring vocalist eleni dimou. -i don t believe- combines pop, rock and eastern melodies and feelings and sold more than 100.000 on it s original release. featured here in remixed form by up and coming greek producer zaq (a.k.a img_02) the original composition is reimagined and the result is a low tempo dreamy, balearic disco burner with dimou s lyrics expressing her disbelief in love, beautiful moments, oaths and sacrifices, with her requesting to be set free. a truly beautiful and tasteful reimagining of a lost rarity, the perfect way to launch the label.

camila fuchs (meaning fox in german) are the london based experimental electronic duo of camila de laborde and daniel hermann-collini (from mexico and munich respectively). after pursuing solo endeavours in various projects both camila and daniel left their native countries and gravitated towards london due to its vibrant and eclectic attitudes to different cultures and the arts.

vaghe is a man of few words. he wanders, seemingly endlessly, through a lonely, gargantuan labyrinth of concrete and steel, fighting off ghosts and other futuristic nightmares, searching only for something called the full stream ahead. who is this quiet, determined man and what are these ghosts he seeks? the small communities he finds tucked into the crevices of this towering, dystopic ruin hardly give him leads on his treasure, driving him to find larger enclaves of civilization where people can reveal more about the world he lives in and the quarry he seeks. if vaghe is going to find the treasure he seeks, he will need more help and information than the inhabitants of these beleaguered outposts can offer. he needs to find a larger cluster of civilization, but he’ll have to survive the trip to get there, first… following his 2014 ‘sweet sixteen’, and his 2015 ‘abstract speed + sound’ other people is pleased to announce the full stream ahead: the prologue by turin’s daniele mana aka vaghe stelle. previously associated with italian label gang of ducks and a current member of production group one circle with fellow nationals lorenzo senni and a:ra, daniele’s roots in the emerging italian production scene run deep and place him at its center.
