since we opened our small record store in brighton we have been asked repeatedly for new garage releases on wax. this reminded us that not too much that is available at the moment which could easily fit that criteria. and as long term garage fans ourselves we are more than happy to oblige the faithful with 4 killa darkside steppers from londons buzzin 10. the beats harken back to classic uk garage but are topped off by synths that share common musical ground with detroit electro or european electronica.

after a remix for dasos so sexy last year, the german-peruvian artist martin patiño confirms his presence on popcorn records with an entire ep. to begin with, solid ground is born from the collaboration with astrid. we already heard them on the great hunter ep on cadenza at the beginning of the year. the result of this new featuring is an original techno track with all the good components you expect from tr707 drums to a xylophone melody, in addition to the sexy and reassuring voice of astrid. the american pezzner honored us with a particular interpretation. a deep theme, with percussions, long and subtle panpipes breathe. as if pezzner was paying tribute to martin patinos roots. finally, routinary coffes comes to conclude this warm and deep record done for the sweating parties of the upcoming winter.

compound eye is drew mcdowall (formerly of coil) and tres warren (psychic ills and messages). *journey from anywhere* is their second long-player release following *origin of silence*, an art edition lp on the spring press label. this double lp features 4 sides of improvised electronics that lead the listener into the dark recesses of the duos subterranean explorations. each of these works move at a slow and considered pace, gradually unfolding into a transportive blur of dark psychedelic minimalism. like elements of coil long form works this is a music which has the potential to melt time, open space and create a flowing web of liquid memory. a sublime record for those who like music that encourages travel.

wanda group, aka louis johnstone, is the latest artist to release a record with notown recordings. an artist who *creates beautiful, decayed landscapes of tape crackle, hiss and distortion* (the quietus), the music of wanda group is an other-worldly collage of sounds that touch on musique concrete and other forms of oblique, densely beautiful sounds.

nobody knows where these guys were beforehand, but this record is a real hit. a new release has emerged from an equally new label - detroit techno archive it reflects the labels name perfectly. the 12inch recording includes six wonderful detroit techno tracks, from a couple of artists. the first associations that come to mind are detroit legends like underground resistance, derrick may, stacey pullen, kenny larkin, and octave one. youll find some old-school techno with a rich groove, multilayered melodies, and some great stories behind them. this is real hi-tech jazz.

danton eeproms sophomore album *if looks could kill* is set to be released february 3rd, the aftermath of an intense period at the controls of his purpose-built studio. the result is a record which is hybridised at its core, chere pop songs gradually intertwine with dance floor values while sprinkling risqué references in the process. a foretaste? femdom. femdom may have early nineties techno written all over it, but still manages to leave a strong eeprom aftertaste when it is all said and done.

puss is a new label from hnny and kornél kovács, pushing club ready dance tracks to tenderhearted discjockeys around the world. the first release came this spring, with hnnys simple yet devastatingly effective rnb refix *boy* and kornél kovács eerie dub version *yob* sharing one side each – for the follow up, hnny transforms a late 90s jam by wexford, pennsylvanias finest into an acid-tinged house jam in two different arrangements. as always with puss, each record comes with a unique real human kiss mark. expect more to come.

people must jam is our sydney based warehouse party that we have been running for five years. the ethos behind the night initially, was to bring djs to australia that we wanted to hear but that had never been, and to put them on in intimate spaces and let them dig deep into their collections to play whatever they wanted. over the years we have brought rahaan, al kent, leo zero, mark seven, trusme, frank booker and more to australia for the first time to play. floor jammers vol. 1 is the first in a series of eps from some of our favourite past and future guests. the record is pressed on 180gm vinyl and strictly limited to 300 copies.

studio bruno is the joint project of johannes beck as well as his friend musicians and producers. the concept of studio bruno is based on a one week stay at studio bruno in an old farmhouse in steigerwald, franconia, a lovely nature park in north bavaria, where each musician invited brings a machine or an instrument of his choice. the focus of that week is the common producing and live improvising.for the first record steffen bennemann (nachtdigital) and sevensol (kann) were invited. sevensol brought his tr-707, his monotron delay and steffen bennemann came with his field recorder. the result of this one-week session is a deep house track with a distorted synth line and a krautrock-slash-funky jazz track!

absent from the shelves of record shops for some four years, the detroit wax label operated by eddie fowlkes resurfaced in style with last years unsung hero ep. thats what makes a track represents the seventh detroit wax transmission from fowlkes and sees the producer offer up a double does of his own distinct technosoul sound. lead track *thats what i think about* starts with a deep beat and then expands neatly, adding further rhythmic detail and a killer vocal hook: this is what makes a song cool, special. complementing this, *computer* has fowlkes on hypnotic form, mixing deep beats with cosmic sounds which are again elelvated by his usage of vocals...

it is a family affair as grimy returns with heat from the windy city known for amazing dance edits. tim mcallister takes it out the gate with *rollin*, a classic soul/disco beater replete with joyous flute trills, leslie speaker efx and a pumping house kick. in-demand newcomer cratebugs *get up move your body* is a spacious, cosmic edit of a little-remembered canadian gem. the song ends with an intuitive synth jam that will be enjoyed by djs and home listeners alike. longtime grimy associate rahaan ends things with a bang. his largely original *buari traxx* mixes ghanaian rhythms with killer disco bass and the nuanced, tracky drum programming you could find on a dancemania record. the brilliant track is built for the floor and also serves as an apt transition into grimy trax, a sister label that will release all new music. chicago is still burning.

after the huge success of degree 002 by nick curly, which was played a lot on the hot summer festivals 2013, the label now comes up with its 3rd cracker called >nature calls ep< of the three romanian guys horatio, elchinsoul and gruia. three well-known artists, who will again let degree impact on the dancefloors around. despite the stylistic variety of three producers, a clear golden thread runs through the sound. it combines the sultry soul of romania and lets the blood boil in your veins. all in all degree again releases a totally different record, which however has its typical style. high-class sound which is told by artists, who tell more than just one story. a powerful ep for each moment in life and on the dancefloor.

i came across j.cs music through the argentine label greener records on which he released the m-theory ep in early 2013. to this day, this 12inch has not left our record bag! i really like how j.c naturally blends a house feeling and groove with a techno vibe. in 2012, j.c started the ahd label together with his friend damian schwartz, releasing records from the likes of fred p, dj f, marcos cabral and epiphany. he also recently released a split ep with new york producer fred p on soul people music, as well as set the first release of his own label j.c records, which came out last month. i am very pleased to release his new record on deeply rooted.

lets play house turns its eye back to its home country for its 21st release, a four-track ep by rhythm operator. the record commences with a collaboration between the mysterious producer and a new duo from munich, rhode & brown, called *fionas room*.

optimo trax is an offshoot label of optimo music for tracks aimed at djs/dancefloors. yes, we know there are too many record labels already, but we felt an overriding desire to start another one as so much music that didnt seem quite right for optimo music (i.e. music that was specifically designed for dancing) kept coming our way. like the parent label, optimo trax will release music by new artists and excavate forgotten classics. luma is a project by dave clark from glasgow. dave had his first release as a member of state of flux in 1993 on t&b vinyl, the label twitch ran with his dj partner of that era, brainstorm. twitch and dave have continued to work together in various ways ever since. he has released records as truffle club, and as big ned on optimo music as well as working with twitch from 2005 - 2010 remixing a plethora of artists under the optimo (espacio) moniker before fatherhood necessitated him focusing on changing nappies rather than programming synths. dave has also recorded under various aliases for r&s, numbers, stuffrecords, dissident and wireblock. the twentieth anniversary of that first release seemed a fitting date for dave to unleash his monster new club music alter ego, luma on optimo trax. twitch thinks dave is the best producer in scotland and endlessly weeps into his gin and tonics about how unprolific dave is, so was ecstatic when the 4 killer tracks were delivered that make up this third optimo trax ep. these have been thoroughly road tested over the last few months at gigs around the world.
