british trio little barrie — the group with the unrivalled, trademark blend of rock, blues, garage and soul flavours — are back with their fourth album *shadow*, and sounding better than they ever have. the three-piece of writer-guitarist barrie cadogan, bassist lewis wharton and drummer virgil howe, have slowly and surely been honing their sound and maturing their style since the groups debut on record all of 15 years ago. *shadow* is the super-cool and confident sound of a band at the top of their game, full of brooding self-confidence, brilliantly combining texture and liveness.

at its very first start, the new label founded by conrad van orton proposes a vinyl of his own with two original tracks on the a side, november and captivity archives. and two great remixers such as vsk and the mysterious annuled user on the other. just as the needle starts to mark the passage, the classic four quarters give life to a beat that between one step and another compresses catapulting reality in a classic industrial scenario of mid-autumn where the clear sky gets marked by black and deep plots. a background noise accompanies the whole programming part of the drumming that gives off a relentless pace. on the a side captivity archives reconfirms the industrial nature of cvo with a look towards distant galaxies ..... with the needle still hot we turn around the record to the b side. here we find the vsk remix with a more ambient and crystal clear sound. to the original drum, vsk, choose an equally technical percussion. all home made. last but not least the contribution given by annulled user. trademark? techno! .. and there is nothing here to mess about with. 4/4 dry, hard which feel anger and rebellion desire. the kick, fairly present, is ripped apart by some demonic filters. the 5.30 min of annulled user are a reminiscence of the 90s.

here we probably have the flagship of modern day techno music. the planet rhythm label was founded by glenn wilson and has been one of the leading icons in harder, underground club techno. stigmata member andre walter teams up with chris hope for a juicy collab. resulting in their trademark pounding beats and destructive bass-heavy productions this one is bound bound to be caned by all the usual players!

ad bourke rejoins the fold for a second outerstellar voyage to the inner mind, an aurally administered distillation equal parts cosmic melodia meets gritty detroit house. with *equal turns ep* ads continued sonic refinement traverses club centric rhythms and syncopated electro basslines awash with his trademark lush synthology.

second outing from swedish label lucknow comes courtesy of lodbrok, who deliver three raw, percussive techno tracks bursting with his trademark skewed rhythms and mesmerizing industrial distortion.

after some harder releases on trapez within the last months, alex under focus on his trademark crossover techno, not easy to label into an any specific genre but a sound full of personality. a1. bailar pegados is the kind of track that herbie hancock would have carried in his vinyl case to every club. a2 brings the listener into a robot party at the blue oyster, the club that gives name to track on b side la ostra azul an arpeggiated retro futuristic bomba. 100percent profits of the sales are donated by the cmykmusik foundation to organizations related with children and music.

keeping in line with their trademark sound, the 3rd release on product london records comes from paris based brothers brenn & césar. debuting on the label and indeed their first ever release, brenn & césar serve up a slice of parisian underground.

keeping in line with the trademark birdsmakingmachine sound, comes the fifth release on their self-entitled label, bmm 004. with a more straight-to-the-point approach than its predecessor, the ep starts off on the dance floor, with rumbling bass lines and heavy metallic snares juggling with effects-laden delicacies on the a1s >ahora vengo<. the arrival of >ash but not arthur< on the a2 calms things down bit and takes the listener for a gentle journey through ambient pads and cleverly swinging hi hats, while on the flip, things get a little more bouncy in >oscars critical jack<, which is mostly due to the fact its main ingredient – the solid playful bass line – blends effortlessly with the higher frequency spices, keys, strings and rhythmic parts. the end credits roll down with >bonfume<, another relatively smooth yet jacking swinger that could either be used to kick it up a notch in a warm-up set or be danced to while finding yourself at an afterhour.

following hollowed - the yorkshire based producers debut ep for sonic router - and his successive collaborative ep with vocalist segilola for the king deluxe label, bambooman returns with a reinvigorated arsenal of productions on the dulcet ep. pouring a lot of ideas into the seven original tracks he tackles numerous tempos, contorting his trademark brittle percussion and his command of bounding melodies across several different forms.

having started the year in strong fashion, fighting *the clone wars* on his own rekids imprint in january before following that with the rødhåd-remixed *repeat myself* on work them, matt edwards aka radio slave continues his 2014 ascension with his nonplus+ debut *dont stop no sleep*. another pared-down techno workout, *dont stop no sleep* is a classic radio slave roller imbued with the tougher edge of his earlier techno productions such as grindhouse and screaming hands, retaining the hallmarks of his most influential work whilst updating it with his now trademark energetic house style.

after kicking off with a delightfully classy deep house ep from chicago s strong souls, d3 elements - the label run by the same person as vibes and pepper records - presents it s second ep from brian harden. this long anticipated ep is reminiscent of his upbeat, melodic style that is his trademark. known best known by his affiliations with relief records, underground therapy, nitelife collective, moods and groove and house 4 life records. brian was also affiliated with the well strictly jazz unit as well as wavelength and aura 9. the black 3 ep opens with a1. qunu - a rhythmic homage to south africa s nelson mandela. a complex piece filled with tribal percussions and vibrant melodic sounds that will keep you dancing. qunu creates an addictive rhythm of warmth and color. definitely a club banger! a2. - days of days - is a euphoric affair with lush chords, enticing percussions with ariose bass line. light and airy with a compelling groove. it s a masterful example of genuine house. b1. - the black 3 ep brings the ep to climax with chicago to detroit. this one is a brilliant rendition of original chicago house. the chords are hypnotic, drums are truly crafted to make you move your body. chicago to detroit will truly be onsidered a classic.

suburb return to our shores here at thema with a new clutch of tracks drenched in their trademark swirling soul and assured groove. embracing earnest vocals and a hand-played ethic in their music, thema038 cements the fact that these two are rising in the ranks of adventurous deep house producers.

here it is, the tenth and final chapter in the seaghdha story, as lo shea wraps up a monumental series with a special, limited 12 inch & cd compilation package. first up we get four more new tracks on the wax, its on is an atmospheric, driving house jam complete with melodic guitar effects, which ride the groove and combine with the devilishly deep low end to startling effect. got swagger strips things right back to the bone, a skeletal rhythm framework, those trademark atmospherics and rock solid low end. buchsheff sees us back in familiar lo shea territory, with a powerful warehouse rattler. finally to be sure brings it all home with a cinematic ambient piece. as if that wasnt enough we also have a hand-stamped cd comp, featuring those classic cuts from the earlier part of the series, which are now fetching serious change on the second hand market it is a great package, and a serious send off for what has been a hugely successful & widely supported musical endeavour.

next up on crazylegs, two fiendishly addictive garage cuts - and the first vocal material on our label - from a young veteran of the uk underground, wolverhamptons trc. one of the key players in the late-2000s bassline scene and more recently a prolific grime producer, trcs crazylegs debut sees him on dazzling form: crisp 2-step drums, trademark floor-shocker basslines and melodies so catchy you won t get them out of your head for weeks. on the remix front, a real special pairing: the legendary el-b moulds come bring it into a vintage garage banger, while beneath follows up recent tectonic & keysound releases with a hypnotic, sub-fuelled rework of you & me.

i-boat captain returns to iib with a real gem of a tune. major spam is a chugging nu kraut dub disco bomb. driving drums and relentless bassline wrapped up in swirling synths and delayed vocals. almunia beef up the tempo and the kick, adding their trademark guitar melodies. tiedye turn major spam into an big piano balearic house monster ready for some hands in the air moments. finally on the remix our friends up north last waltz create a beautiful lush disco synth chug out. the extra track on the b side poly punk is a slo mo acid treat. squelching 303 underneath a delayed picked guitar and a soaring pad. balearic acid dub style.

truly one of the most prolific producers of the techno new breed, markus suckut always delivers with his trademark reduced style, designed for heavyweight soundsystems and heavyweight djs.

phil weeks teams up with soldiers of twilight vocalist ladybird on his new track natural high, a deep and soulful house track laden with warm chords and weeks trademark mpc beats. the single comes with three alternate versions – the unplugged version removes the beats and bass providing a tool on which ladybirds vocals shine, the baby dub takes things into heads down territory, and the higher mix reintroduced the vocal.

when luke solomon got in touch and said he wanted to work with local talk we felt both honoured and happy, especially since we have been fans for a long time and mats actually booked him to his raw fusion club in the late 90s. he has been around long enough to be considered a legend within the scene. we couldnt agree more. lost channels, a 130 bpm piano driven and punk-dubby new york inspired house track comes in two versions. the raw & stripped version is exactly what the name says, sharp snares & hi-hats, piano chords, a driving rhythm with lukes trademark percussion sprinkled on top. the live piano version is actually the original version and is peppered with more of everything. bubbly fx, more of that staccato piano and of course that muscular bassline. for remix duties it is the return of an old local talk friend, wil maddams. it seems like wil has spent some time in detroit since last time. this remix sounds like something that would come straight out of the d, his clever drum programming holds this track together with its deep pads and bubbling bassline. it is a retro (but fresh) techno jam for 2014.
