mdcl remixes vol.1 is a compilation of remixes by musical maverick mark de clive-lowe. bridging worlds of music from dj-led dancefloors to underground jazz clubs, mdcl is one of the most broadranging artists youll find anywhere. over his prolific career hes collaborated with the likes of kenny dope, dj spinna, joe clausell and restless soul, remixed the likes of omar, shirley horn and jody watley, and regularly takes his mind-ending live show far and wide all over the planet. with this new collection of soulful, dancefloor gems, mdcl presents his dj-friendly reworks of future classics. the selection kicks off with german trumpet master nils wülker featuring none other than jill scott vocalling the nia andrews and mocky-penned worth the wait where nils trumpet dances around jill scott, delivering with goosebumps as only she can. los angeles based moulton music collaborator vocalist nina lares gets remixed with a nod to classic late 90s house music, and songbird trio king get their song supernatural remixed with the originals lush instrumentation underpinned with a bubbling signature mdcl bassline and drums. side b launches with la multi-instrumentalist dexter storys as is reimagined as an ethereal late night dancefloor moment inspired by mdcls trips to south africa. euro-caribbean-american singer amana melomes lock & key has mdcl unleash his synths and piano keys for a full 88-keys workout, and the side closes with broken beat flavors of mdcl remixing longtime new zealand collaborator cherie mathieson with the bassline and drums pressure of games we play sounding like an undiscovered p-funk-meets-bugz in the attic anthem straight from the clubs of west london.

banging two track debut on sound signature from ge-ology. for those unfamiliar, this renaissance man has produced songs for a list of notable recording artists including mos def, de la soul, and even a young tupac shakur. still, surprising to most, his first 2 record releases were dance music collaborations... one with the basement boys and dj spen in 1993. this release sees ge-ology circling back to his dance music roots

art department presents martina topley bird featuring mark lanegan & warpaint crystalised is a re-imagining of the xxs modern classic of the same name. the original down-tempo version featured on the 12inch are remixes from directors cut aka bona-fide house legend frankie knuckles and eric kupper, french luminary agoria and close label associate deniz kurtel.

gawlo is a rolling, resplendent tribute to griot life ù gawlo is fula for griot ù spear-headed by none other than baaba maal. superbly expressive interjections by a trio of talking drums are especially lucid on the instrumental version. on the flip, lignou mome is an exhilarating straight-no-chaser of galloping drums, bad-minded bass and layered guitar, before ndeye gueye wraps up proceedings with a third instrumental, propelled by terse, hypnotic figures on guitar and marimba synth. with the drum-kit unattended, octogenarian legend doudou ndiaye rose features on lead sabar.

the opener is a traditional jola rhythm, typically fast and energetic, with tuned, talking and kit drums swarming over a kind of skeletal downhome guitar, somewhere between blues and disco. the mboup brothers make a soaring, impassioned plea for an end to division and bloodshed in their casamance homeland. then a more deeply dug-in, spaced-out funk, edgily spun from a serer rhythm, underpinning mbenes reflective song about parental sacrifice. sama yaye, my mother. both with full instrumental versions.

mark de clive-lowe is back with a 12 inch album sampler from the forthcoming full-length album renegades (album available on cd and digital worldwide november 15 on tru thoughts records).
