soul jazz records’ new nigeria soul fever is their first release to explore the vast wealth of nigerian music recorded in the 1970s. the new album comes with introductory sleevenotes by bill brewster (author of last night a dj saved my life).
packed-full with afro-funk, disco and boogie all from nigeria, this triple album set brings together a stunning collection of diverse west african sounds. whilst a small handful of the artists featured (joni haastrup, tee mac, christy essien) have seen the light of day outside africa, this is essentially a collection of killer tracks by an array of artists completely unknown outside of nigeria.
up first on the ep comes splendid -copper-. a pure 909 detroit funky work out and a dancefloor-filler at its best. with his name kind of a bow to the originators and the vinyl history. waiting for the drop business. the second tune -memories- is harder and darker. it comes with a huge atmosphere. you can see a dark room with just a strobe and fog in front of you. last one is the title track -akira-. its more experimental with a broken beat and a vibe which feels like a walk through chernobyl. one for the heads.
the ep features 7 short tracks that take cues from akira’s own japanese descendance contextualized in an urban saao paulo whilst also making nods to pop culture relevant to brasil at the time. tracks jump from genre to genre while leaving a thread that binds them together - the fact that every single one of these tracks sound like the background music to all those tv shows that were birthed around the peak midi era.
soul print recordings is proud to present their first ever vinyl release. 4 excellent deep tracks pressed on a slice of 12inch black gold which features tracks by fil lavin & djp, petkovski & akioki and reworks by the mighty deep space orchestra and liverpool based andy ash.
akira kiteshi has carved a special place for himself in the hearts of many by skewing the instant gratification of dubstep bangers to preserve his roots in the wonky and broken. in the run up to his forthcoming album akira kiteshi throws yet another curve ball into the face of those who seek to label and limit the electronic music pioneer.
>transmission< is a slice of hands in the air euphoric anthemia in the key of joy o or jamie xx.
>give it up< in yet another massive turn left ak twists the beats into uk funkee mode to produce yet more dancefloor detonation.

akiko kiyama is back on lmd after kick starting the label with her acclaimed misidia monarchy ep. since then her sound has matured and grown, the flesh got spirit ep shows this in more ways than one. with a brooding sub low bassline & twisted intricate layers a genius vocal comes into play lifting the track only then to be placed back into the depths of the abyss. treppen is a peak time destroyer, sucking you into a hypnotizing rhthym that builds and builds creating a feeling that something is about to happen, strange vocals that sound like lost souls haunt the track hooking you in only to spit you back out onto a roller coaster baseline. sometimes is a harmonic cruise control roller that takes you on a trip through akikos wonderland.
after the brilliant albums by alex cortex, cim and lucky & easy, now the swedish volunteer dribs comes with this warm brilliant debut album. the ann aimee label specialises in warm, originally crafted, electronica sounds. where the two first albums had a touch of the detroit sound, the album by lucky & easy and this new album by dribs go more along the lines of plaid, autechre and boards of canada. the full sleeve artwork for this release comes again by delta.inc, who gave all releases of the label their remarkable outfits! as introduced with his blending ep, dribs is the newest scout on board. dribs, on earth known as fredrik stling, comes with this full 12 track album with beautiful carefully crafted electronica. all tracks come in gentle and easy, and in sound come most close to arovane or boards of canada. intruiging rhythms, together with the soft beautiful melodies, make this a perfect listening album for the autumn and winter to come. beautiful
this is an album by vocalist mayumi sonoda—a jazz vocalist who looked up to chris connor and made her debut at a us army camp at the age of 16—that was recorded with the help of kichiro sugino’s trio.
we re humbled to offer a first ever vinyl edition of spellwauerynsherde, arguably one of the 21st century’s most enigmatic and haunting albums, presaging contemporary obsessions with processed vocals in a deeply uncanny manner, enduring to resonate with up-to-the-moment music from kara-lis coverdale to visionist or john t. gast as much as the record s distant roots in the seminal works of 12th century german mystic and composer hildegard von bingen, and the writings of john milton, among others. it s quite honestly one of the most beautiful albums we’ve come across since we opened our doors back in 1998.
despite a discography that stretches right back to the late noughties, little is known about turkish producer ali kuru. perhaps he’s publicity shy, or simply wants to let his music do the talking, either way, the music he makes is magical, and undoubtedly worthy of wider acclaim.
presenting the fourth vinyl release, los angeles imprint reinhardt welcomes romanian sonic explorer akim# to the fold. culminating in four tracks crossing genres and themes, pulling from influences and experiences throughout a history crafting his art within the bucharest electronic music scene. taking elements of ambient, electronica and techno, channeled through a dream-state lens. the phosphene ep is created for the dance floor with a soundscape sensibility, making for an unmapped odyssey.
