laura jones unveiled her new label sensoramic in may with sam and karousel cutting the opening tape in appropriate style. for the second release laura delivers her first ep since 2014. after taking time out to experiment in the studio and refine her style, the why question marks an evolution in the uk producer s output delivering two incendiary underground club cuts ably remixed by trevino and u-more. two veterans working under aliases, trevino is of course better known as legendary drum n bass producer marcus intalex who has more recently found a home for his 4/4 output on klockworks, the nothing special and his own label, birdie. u-more is italian veteran and berliner, ivan iacobucci, fresh from releasing on apollonia and a slew of underground minimalist labels who delivers a late night acid laden afterhours workout to compliment trevino s big room counterpart.

the water surely is greener on the other side. susans 5th release marks perhaps the biggest step towards the so-called life of susan. speed and depth transform into ritualistic whistles, strange questions may be asked, but the summery seasons will blossom whilst binge eating kebabs with that wild seasoning. susan wont create her own energy drink, but the likes of dj swagger, axefield, dj windows xp and joakim hellgren sure have spiced up the spectrum of reason on this one.

sunlight by herbie hancockis a 1978 jazz-funk, fusion album. it features hancock’s vocals through a vocoder as well as performances by drummer tony williams and bassist jaco pastorius. this was when hancock began heading towards a more mainstream smooth jazz/r&b fusion, similar to fellow jazz-fusion pianist patrice rushen. the album produced a hit-single entitled “i thought it was you”. as a whole the album tends to lay more toward funk than a jazz record, and is reminiscent of much of the electro-funk of the time. this release marks the beginning of the 80s electro-era style that was more refined in herbie’s later albums such as “future shock” and “sound-system”. pressing on 180 gram audiophile vinyl.

the third of march’s trio of py 45s, is a revisit to the always enjoyable dark electro world of berlin’s mighty detox twins.
the new record offers up a pair of killer synthpop gems which, in the words of the bands’ mark vorderhaus “drift into the arena of the unwell with their latest outing “in the hospital garden”, and pose the curious questions: is it so unfortunate to surrender your mind to a permanent altered state? can losing oneself irreversibly to a manipulated insanity, actually prove to become a rare and wonderful freedom? attraction battles control as the transformation completes itself. the b-side, “transformation” depicts the liberated insanity without challenge, now thriving and pulsating beyond the point of any return.”

i-lp-o in dub is the solo project of pan sonic member ilpo väisänen. capital dub chapter 1 follows the 2015 debut communist dub - a year marked by further descent into economic crisis and instability. the usual business cycles of production / distribution / consumption running alongside macro cycles of boom and bust have been replaced by ossification, austerity, the machine seizing up.
ilpo’s “circular riddims” complement the ebb and flow of the circulation of money + commodities and are mirrored by his field recordings of barcelona rain – the final phase of the cyclical movement of water. but of course the smooth running of “paradise capital” is unsustainable. destroyed techno and open spaces contend with sinister swarming atmospheres. a cash machine flickers. zeros and ones displace another factory. dub as decay – the ghostly remains of tracks eroded by time and technology. the “invisible hand” of the market spasms with tremors.
ferocious textural feedback as music for stock exchange crashes. the soundtrack to heaps of money hoarded by the hidden class. capital is value in motion, but there is nowhere to go. after the collapse, picturesque ruins. capital dub chapter 1 simply asks the question: what next?

deep purple’s 19th studio album sees the light of day. it is being released by the german based label earmusic. the band’s last studio effort dates back to 2005’s ‘rapture of the deep’ so this is a long time coming.
this will make album number four to feature steve morse on guitar and the third with keyboardist don airey. as previously reported, concrete information on the album title is, shall we say, up in the air. “there’s a big question mark over the name at the moment. and possibly an exclamation mark as well.” vocalist ian gillan told classic rock magazine.

bit027 is by 2 italians (who do it better as we already know anyways ...) mario masullo & glitches who deliver a pure particle riot on their >pimps ride free< ep. the kids (mario masullo from rome and glitches peepz from naples) without a doubt know what they are doing on this strong as it gets 3 track ep. the message is raw driving techno with an orchestral feel and an overall extra ordinary hypnotizing mood that really breaks away from the norm and will leave the dancer behind thirsty for more. while the a-side is more on the techy driving side of things, combining orchestral sounds for creating a very quite unusual vibe, b1 goes even deeper in hypnotizing your ears and fucking with your brains, real phsychotic dancefloor madness is the key here. b2 then heads back to the melodic side of the game, without forgetting to keep a strong eye on an intense dance-floor aspect here also. melodies so sweet and clean keep flirting with your ears on this one and its just all so well put together, that it manages to keep an minimal feel, eventhough its filled with so many ideas and great sound details, that it simply leaves us behind speechless and answers the question why our new pimps, sure ride for free at the same time ...

‘consistency’, the second lp from the berlin-based techno artist. the 11 track release follows 2014’s ‘en route’ and will be released on heiko laux’s label kanzleramt, a label with which kajioka has worked with closely for over a decade. consistency lp bears all the marks of a kajioka release: a collection of deep, driving, groove-laden and synth-focused cuts. heady grooves which leave little question why ray kajioka is held in such high regard among techno veterans, called upon regularly for remix honours by the the likes of heiko laux, joel mull, pan-pot, elbee bad, alexander kowalski and marc romboy, to name but a few. kajioka’s reputation for faultless production remains consistent on this, his sophomore lp. the full, extended physical release of consistency contains 3 vinyl disks: 2 x 12” lp disks plus a free, bonus 12”.

while producing the viscera trilogy, fango has tried to understand something about himself. in order to do this, he had to enter into his own body, just like dante entered hell, studying and analysing himself from the inside, diving through organs, guts and grey matter. did it work? yes and no, depending how you look at it. for sure, it helped him in the creation of 3 devastating and introspective eps, but a lot of questions are still unsolved. viscera part 3 is the last leg of a journey that disrupted your 2016 and marks the beginning of a new absurd phase for fango, but this is another story. for the time being we leave you with amnios, metacarpo and metulla. this is viscera 3/3.

the culmination of four years writing and editing, anjou marks the first collaboration between labradfords robert donne and mark nelson since the release of that groups *fixed:context* lp. combining modular synthesis, max/msp programming and live instrumentation, anjou deftly weaves noise with gentle ambience and melody with texture. guitar, bass and steven hess (locrian, fennesz, pan american) live percussion give the eight pieces an immediacy and create a framework for the more abstract sounds of digital and analog synth programming. the product of twenty plus years of friendship, anjou is refined and challenging. an extension of the labradford sound-world but no mere victory lap, anjou represents donne and nelson stepping out and forward, their eyes firmly focusing on the future.
