dan curtin s name has long been associated with future looking techno, machine music oozing with soul and emotion. he has released on many seminal labels throughout his career and left an indelible mark on contemporary electronic music. alive / cascade is perhaps a lesser known entry into curtin s catalogue, released on strictly in 1994 and is almost the perfect synthesis of nyc deep house and detroit techno, a true slept on gem of a record. the music contained within the grooves of this record defy any sort of time frame, it s almost hard to believe it s over 20+ years old. a truly beautiful record, alive / cascade is a must for all electronic music lovers and will undoubtedly continue to be played and enjoyed for the next 20+ years ahead. astounding stuff and yet another example of the wide reaching ears and minds operating strictly rhythm during this golden period.

planet rhythm teams up with rotterdam techno operation th tar hallow and releases a collection of tracks by artists that have frequently appeared on the cult label. deep down westcoast electronics by respected artists such as klankman, charlton, labelboss thanos hana and rhyw. klankman opens up this 4-track va with the ominous �can not use that command on overlapping selections�. berlin based rotterdammer charlton follows up with the heavy arps and outgoing drums of �profiler�. thanos hana opens up the b side with the tough techno cut �the injury pattern� and berlin based rhyw- closes down the varied slice of vinyl with the moving �mkfbtb�.

when armand van helden pronounced todd invented the game. the rest of us are just playing it he articulated a feeling that had existed in the house music community ever since todd terry became the toast of the dancefloor with a brash, brand new sound that combined the rhythms of house with the attitude of hip hop. those early productions, struck through with raw energy, low-fi production and heavily manipulated samples set the tone to come for new york house and in the process, propelled todd to one of the first internationally known dj/producers

i-robots is an alias of opilec music boss gianluca pandullo, a long time dj and producer with a penchant for classic techno and electro cosmic disco. for his next project in the esteemed i-robots reconstructions concept series the italian re-edits some classic material, all with the permission of the original artists. the tracks in question are derrick mays hugely influential *emanon* cut, recorded under his rhythim is rhythim alias and originally released in the 1990s on his own seminal transmat records label � one of the most important imprints in the early days of techno alongside kms and metroplex. the second track � which was first released on metroplex, the label juan atkins founded in 1985 and then re-released and reworked on sound vision - is *game one* produced by the legendary juan atkins and orlando voorn as infiniti. the latter of these pair has already released a number of times on the opilec music label.

one of the most consistent us production duos since the 90s return to strictly for the third time in a year with one of their mellow, understated vocal grooves. singer tara j keeps it laidback and jazzy while lem and john craft a selection of r n b fuelled vocal mixes, just the instrumental mood ii swing dub providing a deeper flavour with tense beats and electronic touches, while the acoustic, downtempo urban lounge mix is a revisit to their classic live mixes.

the brainchild of the so-called fairy godmother of house� abigail adams, during the mid-80s and early 90s movin records defined the new jersey sound. a regular at the iconic roxy roller disco in new york, adams skate-shop-turned-record-store was instrumental in supplying club resident tony humphries with the hottest records that everybody wanted to dance to. danny krivit, larry levan and timmy regisford were also adams friends and regulars at the store.

currently causing quite a stir on the underground, the jerome hill remix of marshall jeffersons s trax classic lost in the groove is a complete re-interpretation, solid jacking (hard) house music using the original vocal that s cut loud onto the vinyl and worms inside your head and has been doing serious damage in the clubs and festivals last year. now with all licensing and red tape cleared away, it s set for release. dancer boom boom is actually a collaboration between acid legend adonis and sidney winters, with a mix down by house legend frankie knuckles. this sat on the b side of am a dog on trax records and is rare & obscure to say the least, but once the needle touches the groove you know it s a killer. massive kick drums and mysterious organ scales, this one is a mad mad tune ! produced in 1987 (and sounding like nothing else from that year) it s been given a very slight and very respectful re-arrangement by jerome hill, remastered and cut super loud. strictly limited and if the previous titles on the label are anything to go by, this one will sell out equally quick.

this selection is based on over two decades of deep dj experiences. the impact of seeing jazz dancer, michael knot of idj, dancing to acid trax by phuture, in the back room of a pub in teddington, produced one of those seminal moments that, gilles maintains, radically changed his view of acid house. it is important to say that this is certainly not a club album as some of the predecessors in this series have been.

its all too easy for nostalgia to tip into something negative. at its best its a celebration of the best the past has to offer while putting it into a contemporary context, at its worst its moaning that things arent as good as they used to be. hercules & love affair have always been firmly in the first category. main man andy butler takes classic house and disco sounds and uses them to craft dance music that has one foot in the past, the other cutting a rug on dancefloors right now. its a well-judged and expertly executed balance.

25 years ago the pacha ibiza vibe was brought to belgium by patrick soks, who has been hosting the paradise parties at café danvers since then. derrick may, derrick carter, stacey pullen, todd terry, pete tong, dimitri, marcello, doc martin, laurent garnier, sven väth, bob sinclar, luciano... they all played their first belgian dj set at this legendary belgian party. enjoy this anniversary release full of seminal tracks... music is the answer!
